This panel can put out close to 100 watts ru-vid.comUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

To be clear, Powerwall+ (Powerwall PLUS an inverter) is rated at 7600 watts continuous whereas standard Powerwall is still rated at 5000watts continuous. The + version requires also using Tesla's RSD (which doesn't have DC optimization). My company decided against using Powerwall+ but we continue to sell standard Powerwall.

A DC coupled system- such as Energy Bank - has another great advantage - it can be charged directly from DC in times were the inverter is at peak power (in sites where oversizing occurs). This means That even though you have oversizing, energy is being used , and can be later sold for a profit. This makes the DC solution a much better deal in the long term - as you actually can make money.
@MG_Steve

I'm trying to find proof of this exact feature - do you have any links to anything that confirms this as it's going to drive the purchase choice.
@techuila
@techuila Год назад
Correct me if I am wrong but I think the confirmation is actually slightly explained in the video where he summarizes that DC coupled batteries can be charged with solar arrays, which are of course DC. Since DC chargers can supply charge to a DC battery, this eliminates the possibly of an inverter not being able to charge the battery if the inverters were operating at peak capacity, and as such, the panels can just charge the battery directly while letting the inverter still do its main job of inverting power to AC for home use. Hope that helps!

This is very good information. I am in Michigan and currently have a 9kw system with Solar Edge Optimizers, large Capacity Solar Edge inverter and a Solar Egde data module. i It’s ridiculous to compare the two on price per unit as price per KWH of storage makes the Tesla the cheaper option. It’s like comparing the price of a 13.5 gallons of fuel with 9.6 gallons and saying the latter is a better deal! I’ve the Powerwall 2 in 🇬🇧 and it’s a brilliant bit of kit, I’ve also got 26 solar panels with 26 solar edge optimises, so far in the 4 years they’ve been installed 3 optimisers have failed and had to be replaced.

@mondotv4216

Isn’t cost per kWh a far more relevant metric than total cost? Plus you didn’t break down install cost, how each system behaves in a power outage, whether a retrofitted SolarEdge battery requires additional hardware (pretty sure it does) and three phase compatibility. I think you need a better, more detailed scorecard.
@MrTanaman88
@MrTanaman88 2 года назад
Mondo is mostly correct. The SE system can be AC or DC coupled. the cheapest option is to DC couple. Adding solaredge ESS to an existing solaredge system would require purchase of both the original standard inverter and the new energy hub battery inverter.
@scottkolaya2110
@scottkolaya2110 2 года назад
Yea, he mentioned that the Tesla Powerwall was only slightly higher cost, but really didn't emphasize the Powerwall has 39% more capacity and 52% more power so unless I'm missing something, it's also more cost effective unless you can get away with just one bank of the smaller system.
@MrTanaman88
@MrTanaman88 2 года назад
@@scottkolaya2110 idk where those nber are coming from but Powerwall has 28% more capacity (13.5kwh vs 9.7) and they are both rated for 5kW continuous. Don't confuse Powerwall with Powerwall+ which has an added string inverter for solar. And solaredge is higher cost.
@scottkolaya2110
@scottkolaya2110 2 года назад
@@MrTanaman88 The way you calculate the percentage increase is to subtract the two. 13.5-9.7=3.8, then divide by the reference number you are doing the comparison from. 3.8/9.7=0.3917 or 39% more capacity from the energy bank to the powerwall. In your 28%, the lower number would be a 28% decrease in capacity from the powerwall to the energy bank. The way you can check if you are doing it right is the multiply back out the full amount plus the increased percentage. In this case 1 + 0.3917% or 9.7*1.3917=13.5 as an increase. Or if you want to show the decrease in value you subtract the percentage decrease from the whole and multiply. For example, 1 - 0.28 = 0.72. 13.5 * 0.72 = 9.7

Hey there I’ve been following your Channel for a while now and although I like very much how you compare the products I do think that you were missing to include two major aspects : number of cycles that the batteries can provide and the operational temperature which will dramatically impact the performance of the batteries and their warranty . At the end aren’t we aiming for sustainable solutions? Also I am surprised that I haven’t seen Blueplanet energy batteries on your channel ; by far the very best product in the market probably the more expensive dollar per kilowatt bud definitely the very best long lasting battery available today. It will be interesting to see what Tesla can do with their Texas power company license for people with Tesla Powerwalls and solar. If they can avoid some of the distribution charge, that's almost half of my power bill without solar or backup. I know I have to pay something for the distribution network, but some of that should take be time of use as well.

Do either of these options work is mounted in a cold space. I’m I’n Minnesota. My solar edge inverter is in my garage and gets very cold. But I was told the Tesla solar wall has to stay warm. This it would be a little harder to run the wires into my base,ent then back out to the inverter. Would be nice if they can be mounted in the garage next to the inverter.

You need to look at how Tesla VPP works, it’s limited to a few states at the moment, but as it’s adopted in more states it’s a +50 points. Massachusetts is the best example, California the worst example, and Texas TBD. Ok comparison, I don’t know how the Tesla V2 gateway ties into your pricing and comparing, but it’s a huge plus in many installs IF you plan around it. My house has an older main panel, and the tesla gateway became my new main. Pretty cool feature. I do wish they had built in a smart generator control into the v2 and maybe a dedicated smart 2 pole for EV chargers

They are both a bad idea. Lithium Ion is not good enough; and it is in short supply. Using Li batteries for walls takes away from EV and Hybrid production; which is already very limited. TOTAL EV PRODUCTION is 1/500ths of the world vehicle fleet. EVEN IF production jumped 10x over night - it would take 50 years to replace ICE, walls only add to that time; while true it is one of the few ways for a electric to really be green - it simply doesn't work out.

But using LiFePO4 batteries for solar ESS *does* work out because it is safer, cheaper, longer lasting, doesn't take away from EV/Hybrid, better for the environment, and takes up only a little more space than Li Ion. There is also a much greater choice of supplier for LiFePO4 batteries. It has been reported that the Tesla Powerwall 3 will use LiFePO4 chemistry.
