We have seen what a big move the Tesla Berlin factory will be.
But Giga Texas is going to be in a league of its own.
Tesla is not talking about it, so don’t think GM and Ford even know what is about to hit them.

I am an 82-year-old man and have driven since I was 10 years of age. I've had almost no traffic tickets in my life and only one or two accidents. I've always enjoyed driving but probably will not be driving too many more years. One of my earthly dreams is to visit the gigafactory of Tesla in Texas. I am disabled and cannot walk but a few steps but would love to visit that factory before my time is up in this life. I'm not sure that they give special tours through the factory but I have watched all their videos and could easily spend days watching the manufacturing of the dream car of every man.

@ Deborah Anne I’m sorry, that’s not what I was trying to mean. I was trying to mean that Tesla is like Fortnite, everyone loved it and that’s all social media would talk about, and then a few years later Fortnite really sort of… died out. And so I’m thinking that Tesla is all just a hype and stuff, and some point of time people are going to move on, because there will be better things (hopefully) down the road. And Tesla says a lot more good things about their company than truth, and so does people all over social media, even on here. All I really want is the truth of Tesla- the good and the bad, not the lies. And when people tell me that Tesla is saving the environment, I think ya I see where your coming from, but ever single time Tesla makes at least one car- that’s 8 years of an gas emition into the environment, plus with Elon building all these giga- factories, there’s less room for plant life, and animal.

Thanks, again!
@tribalypredisposed
@tribalypredisposed 2 года назад
It is not just the enormous number of EVs Tesla will be able to make, it is also how fast and cost effectively they will be able to make them. A Cybertruck will take way less than the ten hours it takes to make a Model Y today. No paint shop, no body in white, over three hundred fewer parts, a much easier and faster assembly of the battery pack, and my guess is that they will make a Cybertruck in around three hours, while VW takes thirty to make an ID car and I assume Ford and GM take even longer to make their EVs. Time is money, so cost of production for Tesla will be much lower than for the other automakers. And once full self driving is available, American buyers will have the option of letting the car deliver itself.

That means it does emit CO2 and soot, but those are small potatoes in ozone depletion. The body for the CyberTruck is designed to be ridiculously easy to produce. It's all angles. There are no curves. Stainless steel is very hard to stamp. Tesla slices a couple grooves into a big piece of sheet metal and then just crimps the body into that shape. Done. Future stamping machines will most likely be much more powerful, so they could stamp curves in the CyberTruck and make it look even better. This is Henry Ford-level thinking. Musk is practically re-inventing the concept of mass production.

I don’t have any inside information but it’s probably a matter of priorities. Get the factories up and running first. Then add solar later. It’s also interesting that Austin has almost no skylights. People need natural light, so what’s up with that? Maybe the answer is the future solar panels.

@@stano49 the skylights in Germany are almost certainly useful in Germany because electricity in Europe is more expensive and they should provide passive heating, lowering the heating costs. It's like people have blinders on when it comes to seeing what Tesla is soon going to be doing to their production. Tesla will soon have two new production facilities that will be using all the new technologies they have been perfecting in different places under one roof. From castings that make cars better and faster than ever before to massive numbers of batteries produced in house that are many times better than what they have had just a year ago. Every where you look Tesla is pushing the boundaries of production and twchnology. Meanwhile no other companies beyond VW, Toyota, and BYD are even close to mass production or sales here in the US. It's going to be a total hyper implosion for Ford and GM. They are years behind in production and technology being ready to ramp up and they are hemorrhaging money. Meanwhile their own dealerships and unions are part of the many major problems they face. All the legacy vehicle manufacturers face problems at every phase of their production and their busness model is from the Henry Ford era.

Hey Frank! Samsung and Panasonic are also in the manufacturing race- both brought along and encouraged by the Tesla evosphere. Batteries are, of course, the key; grid stabilisation and transport allowing fossil fuels to stay in the ground to be used for the plastics we will need for the next century or two. Motor cars will run for the next few years, but Petroleum prices will continue to rise, and cut more and more individuals out of the "highway cruising" lifestyle we used to enjoy. To keep a future of joy and fun available is very important. EV's are something I've always wanted, and the Tesla operation of Musk and Friends presents the only real chance, I just wish I'd "wasted" $300 on 3 Cybertruck preorders!! Have a happy 2022!

Great description of Texas plant. I didn’t realize it is going to be so much larger than the Berlin plant. They certainly have the orders for it in the next 3 years. One thing you didn’t directly mention is the models that will be produced there and if there is room for a model 2 production. (I know model 2 is just a placeholder name).

The Tesla factory near Austin is deceptively huge. Its actual height is equal to a seven story office building. There are some areas within it that are production ready or nearly so. Other large areas are basically vacant, with just H/vac and basic electrical being put in place. I am convinced that TA will be capable of manufacturing the Model 3 and the Model Y and the Cybertruck and the Semi and the new Model 2. The total square footage of the building is 8.99 million square feet (counting all floors). The biggest problem for this facility now - there is not enough parking areas to handle the cars of the workers and the cars to be produced.

What about repair parts as well as repair facilities. How much does it cost to insure a Tesla. I have heard that insurance is costly as well as lengthy repair times. I could see costs and repair times going down if they allow competition. We don't even have a Tesla dealership in my area. Not on my radar yet.

One of the issues with expanding so quickly, but there is more concentration on service now. Insurance, well Tesla's moving in to that as well and significantly cheaper if you are a good driver. Give them time.

The gasoline car producers have been praying Tesla would fail while they could have spent their time switching to electric car design and production. The HUGE problem for the traditional car manufacturers is that the who business model relies upon them breaking down and wearing out. As the man in charge of electric car production for GM said when they recalled them all and shredded them back when they were forced to make them because of the government's demand that the average vehicle would be limited to an impossibly low level in emitting pollutants in the State of California, which also forced the automobile industry to develop catalytic converters, "We couldn't make any money out of them because they didn't break down and the only maintenance they need was to rotate the tires every 10,000 miles....we would have been out of business." Those electric cars from Toyota, GM and other car companies were only leased....not sold, so that they could, and did recall them and scrap them. The car companies ate not in business to build a product that lasts and you can bet planned obsolescence will be built into the new ones now. Heaven help anyone who has bought a 'hybrid' because they are deliberately hugely expensive and complicated to repair. Musk is building them properly because he knows very well that he wants to maintain a top reputation for quality whilst the others are planning (they don't realize it) to shoot themselves in the foot with vehicles designed to break. That's my guess. The next ten years will tell.
