The electric vehicle market is currently one of the most exciting industries in technology and design. When they hear the words “electric vehicle”, most people immediately think of Tesla, as for the most part, they have received very little competition in the industry. But the Chinese manufacturer Build Your Dreams is quickly shaking up the market with their new Blade battery - and even Elon Musk has taken notice. With Tesla rumoured to be investing in BYD’s new “game changing” lithium battery, what exactly is this new technology that’s generating so much hype around the world?

Elon has stated numerous times it wants to purchase as many high tech batteries as possible -- regardless of source. It needs them for it's EVs, it's home Power Walls, and for it's grid storage businesses. The demand for more and better batteries is unlimited.

BYD may sound newbie in auto industry to the rest of the world outside China. but before BYD get into car making industry, it's been decades for BYD to be the world's biggest battery manufacturer next to none. it's research direction was in batery technology, unlike other trditional auto makers. so when BYD joined the EV game, it has to be the game changer.

reality is BYD over state it's battery performance. This is very common in China to mix the terms like NEDC miles and EPA miles.

I hope Tesla is able to build a mutually profitable long term relationship with BYD. If BYD has an IPO in the US to market it's EVs here, I will definitely buy stock in the company. It is the ONLY EV company besides Tesla that impresses me.

Too many new batteries out there. Japan's Toyota and Korea's Samsung has there own versions of solid-state batteries. Then there is aluminum air battery, and then the graphene battery.

The title is misleading. This is not a Tesla cell but a breakthrough innovation from BYD. After Panasonic, Tesla turned to CATL and now BYD. Batteries are very complicated. Hence why Tesla has never developed own cell. Just buying the knowhow from Japanese and Chinese.

Good luck to BYD; the technology and designs look great. We'll have to see if the specs match reality. GigaBerlin might be approved by June or July. Elon mentioned that he will announce a new factory at the end of the year. There is a good chance, at least at this point, that the new factory will begin operations before GigaBerlin.

Texas Giga factory? Just now watched RU-vid showing that the German Tesla factory cannot scanner yo to that required Tesla production rates of the immediate future. And the workers are not happy with the pay rate of these newly created jobs.

No doubt Tesla is the first company that recently inspired and impressed most people in the world and put the electric car into mass production. Since the electric car mechanical design is much simpler as compared to the combustion engine, so if in near future the electric car can be designed in such a way that the car body unit, driver unit, and battery unit separately, each and individual unit or platform and can be upgraded and sold separately, it's not just lowered the cost but also recycle the parts or materials. This video uses the word ergonomic a lot and incorrectly. Ergonomic: "relating to or designed for efficiency and comfort in the working environment." or "an applied science concerned with designing and arranging things people use so that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely." A battery pack design can't be ergonomic.

Whatever type of batteries they use, do they last for live? if not why are they laid flat on the floor of the car with all the seats and carpets installed over it? How do they change them if required? unlike normal car battery, it can be excess and change easily

i’m sure that blad battery is more concentranted due to its cell to pack design. CATL’s LFP is still same to the BYT in terms of chem. what tesla needs to do is to utilize LFP cells to be as usefull as NMC model 3 standard+

the real great revolution will be to perfect an economically viable recycling system with little or no polluting, if they succeed, they will have an almost unlimited source of lithium, and the best thing, other manufacturers would almost pay them to process those discarded ones. the viable and not very aggressive recycling of batteries with the environment will be the next great revolution of electric cars

Agreed. Exactly why I refuse to buy (or ride inside) an EV using traditional lithium ion battery packs. This most recent incident occurred in Canada ... car just slowed to a stop overheated and ignited almost trapping the passenger inside if he didn't kick out the window in time. Tesla doesn’t have anything to do with the development of the Blade battery. They *might use it in a Model 2 car. All I know is that I want my first EV to use Blade batteries - cheaper, safer, and will easily outlast the car. The same can’t be said of Teslas batteries.

in Philippines they develop Thermo plasma Electric Generator. Harvesing Electricity thru Radio Frequency. No need for fuel & Battery. Now they have prototype & working already. they also used in electric car they modified.

The form factor is interesting. Lifepo batteries are known for high cycle capabilities and safety. BYD may have improved safety even further however the energy density I believe is still quite a bit lower than the Tesla 4680 so I don’t see anything here that would support the title of the video.

4680 is a form factor, not chemistry. Tesla uses NCA "aluminum" batteries for high-performance "Long-range" models, in the future using the 4680 form factor. The LFP "iron" tech is now in the prismatic or the BYD blade form. It would be possible to make LFP batteries also in 4680 format, but even with the Tesla structural battery form, the battery would have less capacity from the same volume compared to a prismatic or blade battery.

It's amazing how first other companies are catching up with tesla,I have seen mercedes benz Eqc and the miles is the same as Tesla model X except the 0 to 60 tesla is far better.this tells you just like othe electronic or electric equipment. Companies Will catch up very first,not like ICE cars which are more complicated.

Whether with aerogel or new formations of carbon (Bucky-balls?) we will have batteries in the future that weigh 1/10th of the ones today, so that a truck's 3,000 lb. battery will be 300 lb.s. This is essential to have an economically realistic electric vehicle fleet. But can/should we wait???
