as a Romanian (which we speak the same language as moldavians) and as an automotive engineer of more than 10 years, i can confirm the video looks real. That Tesla is driving on FSD in Moldavia. I don't know exactly how, cause the driver just stated he uses a special box to make it work. The Tesla was imported from USA, it was damaged and repaired and it had FSD originally. I think it was somehow 'hacked'. apart from that i know for a fact (because i was several times in Chisinau, the city it drove), that the roads there are horrific. And the driving there is VERY chaotic, i mean very. A lot of moldavians drive very chaotic without any regard for signs. As a romanian with more that 15years as a driver i sometimes am scared to drive there. I was trully shocked Tesla handled it that well. But maybe i am biased a little being a Tesla shareholder.

I haven't driven in Chisinau as I wasn't with the car there, I still remember it was messy, but I'm really curious when we would see self driving Teslas in Bucharest. The traffic here is horrendous and is not that it's moving slow, but there you have to do a lot of manuvers and chaging lanes where it's not properly painted cars parked on strange places, I find it a true test of decision making and intelligence for AI. In the end the question is when, not if

car is cracked to work in Moldova, it says in the comments of the video. It should not make any difference of where it is, if Tesla decides to enable it, will work everywhere, just a matter of time. People don't realise and keep bashing Musk and he keeps proving them wrong. It is what it is.. :))

I am romanian speaking the same language as Moldavians. The driver said in the video he imported the Tesla from USA it had an accident in USA brought it to Moldavia and repaired it. He said the FSD is actually using OpenStreetMap maps not google maps. Beside this he said he used FSD to drive in Romania (European country) where roads are in normal conditions (no holes, proper signs, proper markings) and the FSD performed flawlessly and much better than on Moldavian roads which lack markings and signs. All of this considering FSD is not officially released in EU countries as far as I know.

Comparison between FSD and Waymo is comparing apples to oranges. Waymo operates in a geo fenced area and FSD doesn’t. I routinely intervene FSD to stop for certain activities that a Waymo user cannot so I would guess the real intervention rate would be much lower for FSD. I have been using 12.3.6 for a few days now. I rarely see any real intervention.

You should have pointed out that comparing Tesla's MPI vs. Waymo is not a fair comparison, since Waymo is on a very boundary limited area and is not really working like the Tesla does. Waymo can't work just anywhere and is limited to specific areas and specific roads. Tesla works anywhere.

The video from Moldova is real. It is an US imported model Y. The driver said he had to guide the car on the left lane as the right lane is a bus lane that is not properly marked. In the early 1900's railroads had eliminated the wagon and stagecoach industries, the the "Automobile" was supplanting the remainder of the once ubiquitous horse. Exhaust fumes replaced MILLIONS of TONS of horse crap that filled streets and corals daily. Walking on city streets without being drowned in six feet of horse poop and rotting animals was literally amazing. Cowboys had to trade six shooters for meals. Wealthy ranchers became homeless. Even on 12.3.6, I find that many of my interventions aren't really even interventions (e.g.: I disengage to stop at my mailbox at the beginning of my driveway, or FSD gets me all the way home, up my (long) driveway and sitting in front of my garage before stopping. Drove it twice in the last 2 days. Good, but still fails in some obvious situations. First, a disabled Semi, with warning triangles placed along side it, was not properly recognized. Was parked on the right shoulder, close to the right lane. My car was in the right lane, with no one in the left, and the car did not move over at all and passed dangerously close to the semi. Second instance, warning signs of loose gravel due to transectional pavement cut-outs as temporary patches, was again ignored as the car drove over the area at highway speed rather than slow down to account for the poor condition of the patches. Also does not plan lane changes based on traffic. i.e. knowing when early rather than late changes are appropriate based on the traffic flow/denisty. It does a lot well, but there is a way to go before I'd consider it robo-taxi ready.

There is another thing to think about when considering miles per disengagement. Let’s say you have 1 million robotaxis driving at say 30 miles per hour. That’s 30 million miles driven per hour. At 300 miles per disengagement, that’s 100,000 disengagements per hour. Now assume you have employees who are watching cameras to take over when there is a problem (same as waymo). And one person can fix 10 car disengagements per hour, then you need 10,000 employees watching cameras. THIS is the number that matters. How many employees are needed to be hired to watch cameras on the robotaxis. Also another thing to consider: 10,000 employees to monitor (drive) 1 million robotaxis, and assume employees cost $50/hr and robotaxi makes $50/hr, then employees cost 1% of robotaxi revenue. These are all just assumptions but it illustrates what the metric “miles per disengagement” really means.

Humans can crane their neck for a better view but FSD can only do a roll-forward check which could be a problem in certain scenarios and make it unsafe. Curious how they will work around this...

I think the issue is less about camera placement and more about fsd 12.3.6 not moving fast enough to make an unprotected turn; or pulling out slightly too far into an intersection; it takes too long to move even when there are no cars. It’s still too indecisive at times (eg lane wobble)

I have new Model Y with EAP operating in Sydney Australia. It does no recognise all speed signs correctly and can speed up in the wrong zone. It phantom brakes so many times in cross city tunnels I have to turn it off which means I effectively have no basic cruise control in that situation. If it is on and you are one pedal driving in city traffic when the cars in front move forward from being stopped at a traffic light it will speed up to the speed limit even if you have the blinker on and are turning a corner. This means the car can and has unexpectedly sped up going around a corner. On freeways it does not see far enough ahead and only starts to slow 7 car lengths from a halt in traffic. This is not nearly far enough when you doing 110 kph and the traffic ahead has stopped dead. EAP in Australia borders on being dangerous and should require a thorough education of new users before they take it on.

As soon as I heard they were going to focus on robotaxi next, and that they were using AI instead of code and that we were seeing massive improvements in FSD... I knew Tesla realized they cracked the code so to speak and now had a window of opportunity to take advantage of. I see huge payoffs for Tesla as a result. Nice work!

So glad that we finally have some numbers to measure the improvement in FSD and to know that Tesla actually have that data and disclosed it. Why is that data not communicated widely? Can’t wait to see some videos on FSD 12.4. I really hope this turns out to be more than just unrealistic optimism/confidence from Elon. As for the auto CEO who is just going to wait and see what happens in the autonomy space - wise choice I’d be doing the same. Implement autonomy by copying Tesla without all the R&D cost . Not everyone wants to own a Tesla, many people hate Elon and wouldn’t dream of buying one. Cars are more than just transport - they are an expression of our personalities it’s just not ALL about practicality and getting the best car. Consumer buying patterns will reflect this. IMO the Tesla model 3 and S should be killing it - by far the best vehicles for the money yet Tesla sales figures don’t reflect this……

In Moldova, navigating to an address would seem to be a problem , wouldn't you agree? Drop out of FSD to make turns and then put it back on to continue, I guess? No actual navigation by the car.

There will be improvements in general driving scenarios, but there are some tough situations that require advanced higher level thinking, cognition, and understanding that FSD may have always have trouble with. You may have encountered some difficult scenarios yourself, as I did, while trying 12.3.6. Sometimes, things are not as they appear to be, and for those situations that are difficult because the roadway design itself is very odd, I think those situations will eventually be solved with additional “training”. But, I believe the inferred social contract between drivers presents an even tougher challenge. Who yields to who, impacted by weather, road conditions, signals functioning or malfunctioning, visibility, hand signals, a smile, a nod, a polite or impolite gesture. It goes on and on. There are cultural differences with these fine points of driving as well. I think it may be necessary to display to other drivers and pedestrians that a vehicle is in auto-driven mode. Then the others in nearby proximity can make allowances for the fact that the vehicle operates by certain rules, and that it is essentially blind to all of the common gestures and social contract understandings that manually driven vehicles expect from one another. Not to say that FSD will not be able to achieve autonomous function, but that nearby participants on and near the roadway, can react appropriately when conflicts emerge between themselves and autonomous vehicles.

I am 99.99999% sure the video from moldova is legit. There are 2 issues from my pov at the moment. The car is unable to recognize pothholes in the road, And sometimes is way too agressive in overtaking stationary cars although another car comes towards it

most of the “5 to 10x improvements” will likely come from reduction in non critical disengagements but that would still be extremely significant. Also i believe many of waymos miles are achieved via a remote driver though i may be mistaken

It started doing that with 12.3.6 when the speed limit marking is clear. It still has problems otherwise. School zone marking should be a little separated from the speed limit signage.

I think school zones have an added layer of complexity in that they sometimes put out temporary signs on cones and in some places those speed limits only apply "when children are present" or "during school hours". In my area that extends to some No Right Turn on Red signs that have additional verbiage "when pedestrians are in crosswalk".
@bryanwhitton1784
@bryanwhitton1784 20 дней назад
In our area the speed limit changes when children are present. So it's 35 when no children are present but 25 when there are children visible anywhere. What I see is that it seems to default to the lower speed whether children are present or not.

School zones where I live have blinking yellow lights above and below a 20mph sign when 20mph limit is effective. FSD ignores it.

Have to give it to Farzad. He’s able to make the longest news videos out of one tweet. Although all the recaps of stuff, like what FSD is, gets a little long winded. And the whole… “Elon said, we’re happy to sell it!! Stupid joke.” Excuse me, what? “The safety people are found to want the car to………. Drive itself.” I think Farzads brain is starting to break.
