The flipside is that it may register and adjust to erroneous speed zones eg. the 40 speed zones on the back of Sydney buses ... or it reads a sign that may not relate to the current road. Someone smarter than me surely has the answer!
You took the words right out of my mouth! (R.I.P. Meatloaf 😅) Me too, so frustrating given it accurately detects & displays speed signs changes but curiously there's no option to automate the speed change. Tom would be able to confirm whether it's the same with Extended Autopilot.
@@LudicrousFeed yes it baffles me that Tesla seems to rely mainly on cameras rather than data available on speeds for the roads like what we see one Waze. Sometimes Tesla will just change speed like what seems randomly.
@nexus888 Interesting, I experienced the reverse scenario where my MY22 appeared to ignore the 100 de-restriction sign and continue to display 80, possibly due to patchy LTE in that area? So is it reliant on its cameras or a blend with data received via LTE - who knows? 😁
Tom have you tried this on the M4 around the new Rozelle Interchange yet? Would love to know if this update fixes that area as navigating through there is still a mess
Manual wipers are usable now. Single press will cycle through the speeds. It just made my new S3XY buttons redundant now. Adaptive high beam is nice too
@@LudicrousFeed Lol. I suppose so. And then the speed chime would still be going off. Even if I could mute the thing with a single press of something. I want to know when I am accidently speeding, but don't need to know loudly 3 times. The scroll wheel is going to wear out quickly as I quickly flick it to drop the speed in 5km batches.
My 2023 RWD model Y in QLD just got this update, and it killed my Spotify. Have premium connectivity and have endless loading spinning and just times out. Rebooted info system and nothing... all other streaming and audio apps work... do better tesla...
13:43 Odd for my car with fsd purchased on atom not showing full screen AP ..yet are for fsd beta atom based mcu in US.. sounds more of a marketing ploy to get more none fsd cars buy fsd than hw limit..
A really chunky update. Manual usability of the wipers has greatly improved, sadly auto remains woeful. Almost all changes are positive except for the regen bar now vertical against the border which is hard to see. Looking forward to your adaptive high beam video. All the visualisations in Chatswood were pretty cool.
@@LudicrousFeed it’s been raining a lot in Sydney and you know what, I think the auto wipers have improved. Tom have you noticed any change or am I imagining it? Also the vertical regen bar is okay, it’s thicker in real life and pretty easy to see. Overall the layout changes and bigger speedo are positive.
@@mark123655 exactly, and possibly less rendered traffic visualisation? despite the FSD chip still seeing full traffic. Elon mentioned FSD is being trained on HW3 with HW4 about 6 months behind so that it works across the board. It would make sense for a "watered down" UI on the atom.
Love the bigger font for current speed. Would like it to turn red or flash (or something more obvious) if you are travelling faster than the limit as well. Just went on my first road trip. Loaded the update before leaving. The speed chime is annoying as all heck. Picking up truck only speeds and then not changing back. And a variety of other times when the limit it is set on is not correct. And when approaching a speed change... I opted for the small flashing speed limit icon.
Thanks for the feedback. Did you have a route set for the speed alert to chime? Or did it chime just in general driving conditions (without set route in nav)?
@@LudicrousFeed I had a route set. But it does chime all the time. Around town it is does not seem as noticeable. I was pleased when I could follow someone using cruise control.
How come your car has a "Bonnet" & "Boot" Tom? Mine is still Frunk & Trunk? Is there a setting (language) change somewhere that I should know about. Great video too thanks.
Don’t mean to stir the pot here … but I’m hearing whispers that original Model 3 / Intel Atom owners were “promised” modular upgrades when they purchased their cars? Can anyone find a source for this claim?
Yes I did hear from somewhere that we could pay for hardware upgrades like you did with your AP MCU in your model S. I wonder how much an upgrade would cost to replace an Intel chipset with an AMD one. Likely not possible or prohibitively expensive
I have had the car refuse to activate autopilot above the set speed limit and sometimes but not always drop the speed when it sees a change. Doesn't happen often but has happened.
fords matching the speed limit sign sucks, i turned it off on my new ranger, going down the highway, it would out of the blue hit the breaks and lock to the offramp speed when im still on the highway....
@@LudicrousFeed I don’t think so, if it was it certainly is much more visual now. Also today I noticed the display depicts open car doors of cars in front of you.
I already thought the car graphic and traffic visualisations took up too much space to start with, now it's even worse. Once you have five minutes of fun spinning around the big car graphic or watching the larger visualisations, it's of no further operational benefit. I have never watched the visualisations when driving - indeed you shouldn't because it's not safe and doesn't serve any real driving benefit. Now they have made something useless full screen. I would much rather seen the maps and other information go full screen. Now that I also own a Seal, the screen display in the Tesla seems so much less practical. The only parts of the update that really matter are the operational improvements.
@@LudicrousFeed Of course, but it seems like a wasted opportunity to use the full screen mode for information that is more useful. I like the floating controls at the bottom of the screen, but these could have facilitated a full screen map or other useful information.
Hmm I’d have to watch my vid again: IS TESLA PREMIUM CONNECTIVITY WORTH IT IN 2022 Australia Model Y and 3 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PW_owxlTsi8.html Perhaps someone with standard/hotspot setup can tell us …
I updated my Model 3 LR (Highland) this morning and went out for a drive in the rain this afternoon. I still had to press the button on the steering wheel more often than not to clear the windscreen, it was light rain so I didn't use the scroll wheel to adjust up from auto.
Hey mate, this is a bit random but trying to download the software update on Iphone hotspot because I have no access to wifi. It's connected a couple of times but I spent 45 mins trying to connect over and over yesterday and it just wouldn't connect. I was driving the car at the time. Any ideas why it's so hard to connect to hotspot on the latest Iphone with latest updates.
Loved the update feature for the auto opening boot. Road trip to Mudgee. Box of wine. Stand behind the car. Magic... (That was not on the Y? or did I miss it from an early update?)
I miss the N button for shifting to neutral. It’s awol. Also wish the full screen visualisation would remember the setting and remain where it was. Shouldn’t have to slide it over every time I drive. Hopefully these things get fixed in the next update. Otherwise great update. Love the new hands free boot too. The larger speed font. Lots to like here. The new wiper controls are much nicer.
Awesome update, change to speed size, indicators moved but the energy used bar is now vertical on the RH side of the screen is obscured by my hands on the steering wheel
I found the full screen visualisation quite distracting. I keep seeing movement in my peripheral vision. The bigger speed readout is good but they have moved the speed limit and TACC mode to below the Speed - but only in full screen (and they move down when blindspot image is displayed 11:13). Yet in “conventional“ mode those 2 things are to the left of the battery percentage. Pick a spot Tesla and leave them there. The energy bar is jammed vertically against the edge of the screen and virtually invisible. Those gripes aside, this update plus the adaptive high beams is the one worthy of being a “Holiday Update” (like we didn’t get last Christmas).
Good summary and yes I only saw the energy bar only after I finished recording this video hence why I didn't mention it 😅 - it could've been more prominent tbh Agreed, it's a huge mid-year update 👏
Totally agree. I thought the car graphic and traffic visualisations were already wasted space when just on the right, now it's even worse. They should have taken the maps and other useful information full screen. It's a wasted opportunity to actually make the screen layout more functional rather than more fancy.
Tom I installed this update the other day in 8-month-old Model Y and first drive was in evening. The adaptive Matrix LED headlights are amazing to watch them dynamically change for traffic in both directions. All the improvements are great. I agree I would like to see the changing Cruise Control speed for speed signs.
I found that the mini map on top left during night mode is a bit hard to see if you have auto brightness. Also with speed camera only shown on mapped route, if we suddenly change route and there's a speed camera ahead it might not have enough time to warn us.
If you mean the option to toggle regen braking, I believe that disappeared long before this update sadly. You’d need a third party system to bring it back like this: Gen 2 S3XY Buttons and S3XY Knob Installation Guide for Tesla Model Y ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vz0Uq5uKiWI.html
Did anyone notice 2 things in this update (though I could be imagining this). The regen braking seems a little bit weaker and the autopilot distance gaps now seem smaller... for example 2 feels like 3 was a few weeks ago.
@@LudicrousFeed all that aside one of best I’ve seen in 2 years. Headlights are outstanding now. I hear there is another windscreen wiper update coming soon, very much looking forward to that.
love everything in the new update, right up untill I found out they broke auto high beams..... Now after a year I have to turn them off for the first time.
@@LudicrousFeed it was quiet embarrassing though when the highbeans remained on even with on coming traffic and I had to figure out where the setting was lol.
Yep, noticed the same thing tonight. 🫣 So unless the adaptive high beam change is very subtle, I fear I was frying each oncoming driver - sorry if that was any of you guys btw. 😵💫
I noticed your premium connectivity expires on 20th August - were you able to buy it in advance? Mine is only month by month, so it usually shows the expiry date no more than a month in advance.
Unless I misunderstood, you have to have route mapped out or it doesnt warn you about speed cameras? Whats the reasoning behind that? Can understand for say the average speed camera so it knows the start and stop, but why not have it just in regular adhoc driving?
Yup I couldn’t agree more! The visual/audio alert is only available when a route is set otherwise you get nothing. This was discussed in further detail in my previous update vid: Tesla Model Y Software Update 2024.8.9 Speed Cameras On Route Drive ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RH00inpXXe0.html
@LudicrousFeed Right yeah, figured maybe that was a lets get this feature in there moment, and then refactor in next update type thing. Maybe just another way to making money from updates by forcing down premium pathways? Or that works without? Does Waze do average speed camera?
@@azzanz I don’t believe Waze shows Average Speed Cameras specifically … it’s just listed as a generic speed camera and tbh practically speaking that’s enough of a prompt for the driver to look up to see what type of camera it is and the restricted speed
Am hopeful of an update to my 2019 M3 soon , I have experienced the unnecessary windscreen wiper activation & unnecessary (phantom) braking. I have used auto steer a little (my car came with Enhanced Autopilot) but am a little reluctant to use it as it seems to jump (or brake) at shadows . Also one observation I have as a new Tesla M3 owner is that the drivers side mirror magnification (from my point of view) makes vehicles seem further away than they really are , to the point that I have become a little paranoid that I am cutting people off when I change lanes. I have been in the situation where I have been on my Livewire and have had both Tesla model 3's and model Y's change lanes that Close in front of me that I have hit the brakes (and thought WTF are you doing) to keep a safe distance away.
Thanks Tom another timely video. As an Android phone user some of the updates only work on Apple phones. Can't wait until the hands free boot update comes for Android phones!
I don't think we will see this on pre-refresh 3s and Ys as this needs ultrawide band Bluetooth and only the refresh 3 has this (and newer S and X but not much use here)
I did notice this afternoon whilst waiting in the car to pick up my son from school, that as soon as the cameras saw him coming, it popped up an unlock and open boot box . Nice touch
tesla ev battery have failed, replaced 3 times within reaching 100k miles, this has been mentioned by many tesla owners who are trying to get rid of their teslas, EV's are duff cars, i will prove to you that brand New ev 's are only worth paying £2k , if you paid more than £2k youve been mugged , you can only use 60% of the battery for usage because ev manufacturers advised not to charge ev over 80% and not let it go below 20% to avoid battery damage, reson why ev prices keep going down faster because no poor person is buying it in used ev market, poor fear the huge battery fail costs, charging and range anxiety and inconvenient and winter huge range lost and freezing cold, most tesla ev battery has failed, replaced 3 times within reaching 100k miles
This post reeks of someone who likes to copy and paste junk into every Tesla video just because they're an EV hater. At least use dollars instead of pounds so it doesn't look so obvious.
