While at the Police Fleet Expo 2019 I had the chance to try some pretty sweet police rides that included the 2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, 2019 Dodge Durango Pursuit Package, and the 2019 Police Polaris Ranger Police Package. @@_jg00 Well for being part of law enforcement for the last 7 years I can tell you that the Crown Vic was one of the best vehicle out there. The explorer is a way too big vehicle for city patrolling (officers bump in every parked vehicle, fire hydrant and so on), the chevy Tahoe is one of the worst SUV for patrolling unless your doing highway's only and the Taurus is a plastic made mini car. SO yeah the Crown vic was 110% better

Damn Son if police officers are hitting that much in the 15” shorter FPIU than I think there’s a bigger problem there. My wife drivers her Explorer through Seattle and has never hit a fire hydrant or parked car. The FPIU is faster, safer, and more fuel efficient than the Crown Vic. So, for nostalgia, I don’t disagree with you. Everything else you said I sure do though.

@@WSBro93 the Taurus PI has been gone for a year. The Clown Dic has been gone for 9 years. I hated that Chrysler killed off the Fury and Diplomat in '89, but today, the Charger has whipped the Dic, Taurus, and Caprice, and is now the only Pursuit-Rated sedan in North America. As good as the Diplomat and Caprice and Crown Vic were, time marches on. Ten years ago, a 250 hp 4.6 V8 Ford with a 4-spd auto were state of the art. In 2020, a 363 hp 5.7 V8 Dodge, with AWD and an 8-spd auto, will rule America's highways.

They probably won’t get the hybrid explorer right away because of the price tag but guess they will slowly start integrating the hybrid explorer after about a year or so after the price drops a little bit and anyway I bet ford does a bulk deal so if a department buys quite a lot of vehicle they will give the department a little discount

Nick, I would ask how does the dodge drive, but guess I should ask how does it ride? What vehicle manufacture (DODGE) is going to take their vehicle to a fleet conference and not let you test drive them.

Dickie Mcvitie you mean our BMW’s with 3 litre engines which would demolish those V8’s? I live in the south west, not a lot of funding, even then we have a bunch of unmarked and marked new 5 series touring vehicles and X5’s. Go to the midlands and you will see endless amounts of 3 series patrol vehicles, I saw 4 within 3 minutes of getting off the junction. Plus these American cars can’t handle anywhere near as good, in sure I don’t need to say it but please drive a Ford then compare it to a BMW. Miles apart!

I gotta buddy that’s a Sgt. w/ Harris Co. Texas and he loves his Tahoe. Says it’s more comfortable and very fast. Compared to the other cars in their fleet like the Ford, Dodge Charger, etc. The Tahoe is a fav because of the room it gives Officers. My local County has nothing but Tahoe’s

At $35,000 (before options and upfitting), the Tahoe is more of a niche vehicle - many agencies are buying half or two-thirds Charger, with the remainder Durango or Tahoe. The Durango, however, is a bit cheaper at $29,000.

Just got back from Mexico and the patrol vehicles are very different. Mainly pick up trucks with a rack in the back so that 4 officers can stand in while patrolling.

Oh, the irony. At the Polaris exhibit they gave you a Victory helmet. Polaris killed off Victory 2 1/2 years ago. Vic’ made a really nice Police bike. Much tougher and better performing than a Harley. Now they have Indian, but where are the Indian police bikes.

I've noticed that Ford doesn't have anyone drive the base or non-hybrid 3.3l V6 which loses 20hp and 19lb/ft, and with a heavier vehicle will probably be slower than the old model, and if it's the same engine design as in the F-150, Ford doesn't even advertise that it has Dual Injection, they must be afraid they would hurt sales of their problematic Direct Injected engines. Not to mention, that most departments will only be able to afford the not hybrid, and as far as the Turbo, most of those in charge of buying these things know a Turbo will add problems and lessen engine life.

For police departments everywhere, the Dodge Charger Pursuit is the only sedan suitable for highway patrol usage. Ford & Chevy quit making police cars and only offer trucks and SUVs now (although they are good).

That new 2020 Ford Explorer with the "hybrid" powertrain is going to be a huge hit because of the fuel savings. Idling an engine all the time burns up a lot of gas and puts a lot of wear on it. The electric hybrid motor ought to help with that issue.

Don't be in a huge rush to get in the "man van" our agency only buys the non turbo explorer, super slow compared to the charger in the interstate and rural highways!but you can't beat Ford's build quality over Dodge.

As you can see by my ID... my first cruiser was a 1987 Dodge Diplomat. The only cruiser I ever disliked was the marshmallow Chevy Caprice in the early 90s. Too rolly in the corners and not enough power. My opinion only of course.
