Thank you for the review, Christine. I've noticed when I shop at Joann's, that their fabric cutters have been given the option of using that exact cutting tool. They have two of them. I haven't seen them for sale in the store, however. One little old lady who has worked in my store for years told me she can cut fabric again with this tool. She said she hadn't been able to do it for several years now because of the arthritis in her hands. She was very proud and seemed so pleased that she could be a part of the team. On a personal note, I need to be careful when using the term "little old lady;" I turn 70 this year. LOL! Always enjoy your videos. Thanks again.
haha, I turn 60 next month Sandy, and remember calling someone not much older than me "old" just yesterday. It was funny (and sad) to realise that's me too😀
When I was studying at Uni, we had to wear a metal butchers glove on whichever hand you used to manoeuvre the fabric. I was laughed at a lot because I am ambidextrous so I wore glove on each hand, it made for some great gags. But unfortunately most of the students didn’t like using the electric cutter, I bloody loved it…you can cut heaps of layers so quickly and really precisely. I love it for bull sewing it’s so darn quick.😉
I recently bought myself a simular scissors. I am used to rotary cutting along a ruler and they do not work so well for that. But it's amazing what they will cut through. I even used them to cut through a cutting mat yesterday. I debated about which to get, not knowing anything about them. I wish your video was out a couple weeks ago! I am like you, I love my tools, so I will probably have both! Thank you for the video.
Cool gadgets 😊 I have to have the ac on a bit higher and position fans on the hall floor to get cool air in my sewing room. I am over summer this year ☀️
Thank you again Christine. I was wanting an electric cutter for my heavier cuts. I do a lot of terry and peltex type (for my water filters) so I was looking at both types. I picked the rotary cutter since it has more clearance for thicker cuts but I had a pair of electric scissors years ago (probably the first ever made, lol) and loved them. I think they would be better for curves and easier to work with for detail, but the rotary is great for straight cuts. Now, that I have seen the scissors in action maybe I need both to cover all jobs., lol. My rotary does have a safety switch so you have to press it before the trigger for added safety and look after our fingers and FABRICS.
Interestingly, none of my cutters have safety switches. Perhaps that's why I'm so cautious with them Judi. I'll have to play a lot with the scissors to get the hang of them😀
I love how it sounded like you were saying accidentally cutting your fabric would be more devastating than accidentally cutting your fingers. 😂 I've always been curious about these, so thanks for the great review!
My husband got me an electric scissors for Christmas which I only tried using this week. I find it hard to cut evenly going around curves. I was cutting out a vest first my husband. Straight isn’t bad but it’s harder to cut evenly around curves. Could just be because it vibrates and it’s hard to hold steady. But it does cut through fabric like butter. I’ll try to continue experimenting with mine. I think the rotary cutter is a great idea for straight cuts. .
Thanks Christine i have known about the scissors for a long time be nice if they were a bit less noise didnt know about the rotary cutter thinking about getting them as i do a lot of cutting they would save a lot of time
I agree about the noise Pamela. Both cutters are great for speed and layers, but if you want precise measurements, hand tools and slower speed are better😊
✂✂✂✂✂✂🪡🪡🪡🪡🪡🪡✂✂✂ I have both of those cutters different brand and rotary cutter is corded , i prefer the rotary blade one more, I have also used the industrial 12 inch blade cutter used to cut for table linens years ago .. what fun cutting so many layers at once ..anyways thanks for the demo and enjoy the new toy ✂✂🙂🥰🥰
oh, I haven't tried leather yet Sue. I think these will be ok on smaller curves than my really large cutter is. That's best suited for straight cuts. I'll have to try it out😀
Thanks so much for the review. I'm a bit of a gadget magpie so am drawn to this, but your clear and honest review has shown me that these are really not going to be useful for me. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from the UK.
That was interesting. Thanks Christine. I love a good gadget but do T have any “power tools” yet 🤔 One question. I might sound a bit thick but I’m presuming you can’t use the power rotary cutter with a ruler like you do with a hand rotary cutter. So I’m thinking you would draw lines on the fabric if necessary. Is that right. 😜
Jody, these are much lighter than the big one I've been using. After my shoulder surgery, I struggled to use the one I had because of the weight. I think these might have been easier for me🤔
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs glimpsed another video where snippet mentioned you simply work out measurement from blade to edge of cutter plate and use that measurement to shift your ruler to left by that amount. Don't have cutter to tell you how well it works but notice many cutters have peak at front of plate so you would have to make sure to align wider section of cutter plate before commencing cutting. Practice on old offcuts or clothes not fit to donate to charity before using on good fabric.
The plugs work in america. We never have to buy adapters for home use. That must be very irritating for you. It would irritate me as well. Lol The Boss cutter! Awsome! Cool gadgets! The fan is fantastic!
I like the precision of using a ruler and (non electric) rotary cutter. Sadly, the electric does not seem precise enough, especially since a hand is needed to start the cut and hold the fabric while cutting. I am so glad you did this video though, because I was considering purchasing the scissors and will not now.
That's a good question Cherie. Even with my big one, I've never tried cutting curves, but I'd definitely have to practice on scrap fabric, and go very slow😁
Luis, I rusually cut 6 layers at a time as it glides through nice and easily with the different weights. Some thinner fabrics, I can get more layers under😊
LMAO. the fan for the women who have hot flashes. I don't because I got my hormones straightened out with bio-identical hormone pellets. .NO WAY , I was going through that crap!. SO much happier now.
