I’m sorry if I’m confused/wrong but I think there is a correction at 10:40 where you say reactivation of hsv is anterograde and in the same sequence you say shingles reactivation is retrograde. Please clarify! Thank you for these amazing videos! ❤ These are really helping me nail the minor FA details that often get lost after multiple readings.

Excellent questions in a very well presented video. For the last question it stated that the hearing loss was due to CN VIII issues (sensorineural) however multiple sources confirm that the hearing loss is conductive due to ossicle abnormalities. Is this what the question meant?

Thank you for the kind words and feedback!! As far as hearing loss in OI is concerned, this is a great question as their is some discrepancy on the form of hearing loss as detected during testing. You would not be incorrect in suggesting conductive hearing loss as a possibility in this patient population. According to this article published in 2011 on NCBI, "It is frequently reported that conductive hearing loss is found in younger patients with OI, whereas sensorineural hearing loss is found more in older patients with OI [17, 19, 21, 23, 28]. This view is not uniform as one study has reported that hearing loss in OI is most frequently sensorineural in origin [29] in the initial presentation. The etiology of sensorineural hearing loss in OI has not been definitively determined but may be a consequence of atrophy of the cochlear hair cells and the stria vascularis as well as from abnormal bone formation in the cochlea and surrounding structures."
