This is a "Part II" (See part I here: • Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x... ) evaluation of the Athlon Optics Midas TAC 6-24x50mm first focal plane riflescope. In this test, I mount the scope, perform a reticle alignment test, and shoot a "box test" to evaluate tracking. This is an amazing scope for the money!

Gavin. Nice work. Hey man it's super cool that a guy with 70k+ subs replies to comments. I'm getting turned off by the huge channels that reply to 0 comments. At least reply to a few. Thanks bro.

Check out the snipers hide turret tracking target at box to bench precision. Most scopes can track fine around the zero but struggle when you dial at the top range. Good video tho. I’m looking at getting one. I have a athlon etr. I love it.

The cheaper 30mm 6-24x50 Midas Tac and Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 both seemed to be noticeably clearer than the 34mm 5-25x56 Midas Tac we recently tested.

Really wish that the turrets locked like the do on the Helos. 4-16 is a great magnification range for a multipurpose precision hunting rifle, but it really needs caps or locking turrets. The Ares adds illumination, and more range on the magnification, but still lacks the locking turrets. That's really my only negative comment about the Midas or the Ares.

How is your plumb bob setup created? It looks like a shadow, and it looks like it's indoors. I always end up doing it outside, throwing a rope or something over a tree limb -- and then spend 20 minutes being frustrated by wind making it sway back and forth, LOL. Even using a chain doesn't keep it from swaying.

Just getting into the long range shooting and started with the Athlon Optics Argos btr 6-24x50 ffp. Didn’t want to drop too much on everything till I knew I liked long range shooting. I love it. The Argos is nice for the price. Glass isn’t bad but not great. No zero stop but tracks well. Think I’m ready for the Midas TAC. Thanks for the review!

They will send you the shims for the zero stop. They don't work all that well imho, but it's better than nothing. I have em in mine. No substitute really for a true zero stop if you're going to be dialing hither and yon

Gavin- Would you have any hesitancy in putting one of these scopes on a harder recoiling rifle, like a 300WM, assuming it was mounted correctly in a set of quality rings?

The Ares BTR Gen 2 is a superior scope when comparing both side by side including clarity. I thought they shared the same HD glass until I had both and sure enough the Ares was noticeably clearer.

I have the PA 3-18 and an Athlon Argo BTR 6-24. The Argos is amazing and would not hesitate to buy an Athlon. The PA ACSS reticle, while awesome in design, doesn't do it for me. I like my simple cross-hairs/Christmas Tree reticles. As far as glass goes, I shoot the 2 side by side every week, and can barely tell a difference. The PA is really crisp at lower power, 12 and bellow, but gets washed out easily in the higher settings. A sun shade helped a bit, but have never had an issue with the argos to even consider getting a sun shade. The one downside of the Argos is the turrets don't line up so its just slight right or left of the actual number, which isn't a huge deal for me, but could be a major issue to someone in a competition or other high stress situation, not sure if the midas has this issue though. Haven't done a tracking test, but there are videos of the Argos tracking on par with the viper pst, and the PA 3-18 tracking true as well. With my current experience with both scopes, I will be leaning heavily toward the Midas for my upcoming bolt action build.

Gavin, well done video as usual. You were born to be on camera and the ease with which you navigate technology is inspiring. But P L EA S E, pretty please, pretty please with sugar on top consider some bullet work both casting and swaging. I keep reading about amazing long range accuracy with cast bullets that wear paper gaskets? Check out the Los Angeles area Silhouette Shooters Club (LASSC) website. These guys are serious bullet casting dudes. I would love to see you attack some of these issues as your videos are easily understood, well-lit and photographed. At the risk of sounding paranoid, sooner or later this shit will hit the fan, it's a matter of physics what goes up must come down. The greatest of all civilizations in the 5,000 or so years of recorded history have all crumbled sooner or later. Bullet making, it seems to me would be a great subject to explore. Besides, I am having shit luck casting! Drive on buddy you're doing a great job.
