We've been curious about the Tikka T3K, and now it's time to get hands-on! In this story, we perform a sporter barrel threading, install the Tikka in an Ultradyne Chassis, and shoot it to see how it performs!

Please leave it .308! Many people still use this caliber and it would be great to see more content like this in relation to it.

Was there much of an accuracy/weight difference when swapping from the stock chassis to this one?
@GeographyNerd48
@GeographyNerd48 7 часов назад
As for the weight, a T3x lite stock is 30 oz. A T3x varmint (not adjustable) is 32 oz. Do the math. It adds a significant amount of weight depending what grip and butt you pick.

I was interested but according to website they have no Tikka options in stock

How to turn a thousand-dollar rifle into a mortgage-dollar rifle. Stock Tikkas are already very very accurate, I don't know what else you trying to squeeze out of it.
@lamont814
@lamont814 10 часов назад
Yeah, a pretty big outlay of cash. I don't think his primary purpose was to improve accuracy though. Geared towards those with cash to burn on ARCA, adjustable butt stocks , M-lock components etc. I estimate that was a $1500- $2000 upgrade after parts and his skilled labor. That being said, the Tikka is an excellent platform to upgrade based on it's accuracy and smooth action.

Pillar bedding is about all you need to improve accuracy in a Tikka but the gain is not huge.
@GeographyNerd48

It is just more ergonomic \ adjustable and can run longer mag length for those who reload.

Can't you buy an off-the-shelf T3x TACT A1 in the USA? Proud owner of a stainless T3x Lite in 7-08mm rem. She was sub-moa untuned, straight out of the box. Incredibly accurate, light to carry, light recoiling, easy-to-clean barrel - to me she is the perfect tool for hunting deer in Australia. Make sure to tension the action screws with a torque wrench though - the stock is only plastique. If I wanted to get into target shooting, I'd just buy a Tact A1 - straight off-the-shelf you are good to go. Keep the T3x lite as a hunting rifle. Three shot strings is all you're ever likely to need when hunting as the pencil barrel heats up too much for my liking after three shots. Buy the varmint version if you shoot strings.

The stock Tikka trigger would have worked well in that rifle. I know that you love 6 GT and 6 Dasher, but please quit turning every 308 Win (which everyone has access to ammo wise) into something else that is more difficult to find reloading brass for or is extremely expensive when you do. A barrel swap to a Proof or Carbon 6 barrel in 308 Win would be great. Just like what could have been done with Jim Harmer’s Mossberg. Otherwise this is a pretty cool build and those chassis remind me of the ones on the Bergara MGT Lite and Micro Lite rifles.

What is wrong with 1/2x28 threads on a a T3x barrel? I have 3 of them threaded this way and as long as you don't use the suppressor as a bayonet they work just fine.

How much did it weigh, minus the scope? Years ago, I bought a Tikka 3x Ultralight with the hopes of turning it into what is available now as a SIG Cross. I was very disappointed with the barrel needing special treatment like you did in order to thread it. I never really moved forward with it after the Cross came out. The Cross is nearly as smooth and has a short bolt lift too. Still have the Tikka, gathering dust. Maybe I'll do something with it after I see what you do with your project. I don't want a Gay Tiger though. No long range shooting available in under a few hour drive.

I have a T3 Lite in .308. Didn’t like the recoil with the polymer stock, so I put a pillar bedded, Boyds stock on it. The laminate stock is a little heavier and recoil is well managed. I can get consistent .75 groups with 150g hand loads and 1” with 165g hand loads, while using a match grade, service rifle, leather sling. I may still put a brake on it.

Agree with some previous comments, show a before and after the upgrades on rifles. Many of us have factory stocked rifles and do upgrades as we can. Would be good to show how well a factory rifle does, then upgrade. A carbon fiber barrel would also be an interesting build.

Would like to see you cut a barrel down to SBR lengths or pin and weld 14.5. Load for it and talk about what powders to use or how to find those powders to regain some of the velocity lost by using faster powders.

Please do some load development with the stock barrel. I have 6 Tikka and the worst one with my loads is 3/4 inch with the others consistently 1/2" and many times less. Great video, very informative, thanks for making.

Spin up a 260 barrel, with a little longer throat, to seat the heavy bullet. And show the velocity you can get out of it. It might embarrass the mighty little creedmor.

Funny enough, I strongly doubt with this rifle that there would be any measurable difference in accuracy. These upgrades improve ergonomics, ease of shooting, and comfort, but the raw mechanical accuracy is likely unchanged.
