Testing 3 Rechargeable Air Pumps on Inflatable Kayaks -
I bought 3 different rechargeable air pumps all of which claim to be able to inflate boat chambers.
Are they any good?
Let's have a look...
Since buying these I have realised they have another useful purpose. They're small and lightweight. When I swan off on a kayak/camping trip they're useful to take instead of the large pump. If I do happen to need to repair the boat, or get a leak while away, I can fix the boat and put some air in with one of these. Whilst it wouldn't be enough to fully inflate it, it would be enough to get me back.

I like the look of the pumteck - the only thing that would put me off is the noise, and the lack of pressure gauge. However, I am a lazy lazy man and anything that helps take effort out of getting air into the boat is a good thing. Another really useful video Karlos.

Cheers Si. If you've a pressure gauge on the pump you're topping up with, which you have, it doesn't really matter. There's no way these are going to over inflate anything - they don't have the power.

I use a flexi tail pump for my air bed, amazed it will blow up a kayak. Ideal to take with you when kayak camping.

Yeah that's what I thought. Something small just in case you need to put some air in. Prior to this test I tested all 3 on 4 different air mats. They were all great 👍😊

would like to see how much you can inflate on a single charge. We have a couple of paddle boards that need a lot of air and a high pressure (15 p.s.i.)

Hi donny, our rechargeable pump goes to 20psi. Takes about 12 mins on our 10'8" board and we also supply a battery pack for extra inflation capacity.

Hi Karl, nice video, Very informative. I don't know what is the filling pressure required to inflate the boats in the video, but I have a Pvc packraft that take a max pressure of 3 psi. Do you think any of these pumps would inflate it enough from a totally deflated state to overcome the initial reluctance of the PVC to start blowing up? I can easily top off manually after that. Many thanks for your input. BTW I am in the US so would only be able to get a pump easily available here ie on Amazon USA.

@@MoreThanJustaCleaner Hi, I am referring to the effort required initially to get the boat to start distending. Once there is a certain volume of air in the hull it always seems to blow up more easily. At least thats what I have noticed with hand pumps. Thank you again!

U can keep doubling the numbers of you by 3 to 6 to 12 . Made me think of the Oompa Loompa‘s in Willy Wonka.I use something similar on trips on my bike. I would take the smaller slower one on my bike . A minute longer in filling time won’t hurt but it’s space saving size makes it the one for me on my motorcycle travels

Hi, I have just bought the goplus and the orange Flexitail pump, do I need an adaptor for the flexitail that fits the goplus ? if so can you tell me which one? TIA

Ooh, exciting times 😁 I bought these amzn.to/3qzX0jN adapters. One of the Flextail ones pushes into it. The adapters come with 2 different different thickness seals and you might have to play with them until you find the one that fits. As I recall, one makes the adapter fit snugly whilst the other you can't get the adapter into the valve properly.

Hi Karl, can you let us know which of the pumps puts the highest PSI out of the 3?

Whilst I didn't test the PSI levels here, I have done another test on the GoPlus with the Pumteck and Beautyovo and topped with the pump. Whilst the pumps put a lot of air on they barely reached 1 PSI. Nevertheless, it still made the top up a lot easier 👍

Worst job is deflation, how do they get on deflating? I end up laying on my boat to get the last bits of air out.

I've not tried them doing that because I generally don't find it much of an issue. The Pea Pod and the Ironing Board roll up towards the valves, squeezing any last air out as they go. The Jackanory generally deflates quite easily. What boat(s) have you got Jamie?

Hello! Thank you so much for your video! Since I live in a country that can only access just to the Flextailgear brand, I would like to know if you can make a review for the newest version of it "Flextailgear Max Pump 2 PRO Electric Air Pump". I want it for my paddleboard / SUP and will need the adapter that fits. I imagine that it won't be able to inflate 15 PSI but I least I can save some effort, space, and weight load, and also is water-resistant. Do you think this is a good idea? Thanks again!

Hi Karl. I ended up getting the Pumteck as it had money off on Amazon. I also bought the DS valves you have linked to. But I don't know how they should fit together! Am I being dense? (Probably! 😁) Any tips to get the Pumteck connected to something like the Spinera valve?

I screw the DS valve into the boat. Then on the Pumteck I use the adapter that has a loop thing at the end and push that into the DS adapter.

Do you mean, how long will it last in use? Or, do you mean, how long does the battery last in use? To answer the first question, it takes a couple of hours to charge. I can't answer the second question because I haven't tested that.

They all seem to do the job quickly enough, to me though if you still need a hand/foot pump as well it negates the point of them, it doesn't usually take me very long to pump up by hand with a decent pump

Words of advice do not get any of these to blow up paddle board there is not enough pumping pressure.. had to resort to hand pump.. useless

@@ikeabuchi1 of course they won't, they're low pressure pumps. Like I said in the video they'll do a large part then you finish off by hand.
