One would assume a large percentage of Americans that need a “handle” to assist them in hoisting themselves out of their vehicle are overweight. That being said, while this device is allegedly rated at withstanding 400lbs, the door “hook” that it is secured through is likely not. No one wants a $10 gadget doing $500 worth of damage to their car; not to mention being unable to close their door due to the “hook” (striker plate) being bent out of alignment. As far as breaking glass or cutting seatbelts, good luck finding that thing after a crash that would require such emergency procedures.

William thanks for your comments and valid points. I know several people with mobility issues that use these and find them helpful. None of them weigh over 200 lbs...

30KTROY, you're welcome. I think there are lots of people who would benefit from this handle, as long as they don't want to cut the seatbelt.

As a retired police officer- these seatbelt cutters are for rescuing others or a first responder to use on you. You CAN do it but that is not what it is for. It is rare yiu are trapped with a seatbelt. The ones I cut the person was unconscious. Just my 2 cents.

I have one that doubles as a step, it doesnt have a flashlight. I find it works well for getting out of the vehicle but a cane or staff does the same job and they will need to come out anyway. Mine works really well as a step to get things from the roof rack which is all I really use it for

Doc Ink, good to hear from you. I was wondering if it woek as a step, I'll have to try it sometime. Yeah, I was wondering if a cane would be better or as good, but some folks I know who I did this for refuse to use a cane...

I would've tried cutting the lap strap, saw back & forth. Then it should feed through the buckle. The lap belt is what stops a person from getting out, because you can wiggle your way out of the shoulder strap if needed.

very true, depending on ones stature the lap belt may be the better way to go...

You will NOT break a windscreen / windshield with this as they are laminated and designed not to disintegrate , A side window yes absolutely but front screen NO !

Good point, side windows are much easier to break for sure.
