Had a bunch of leftover material in the basement and figured I’d try building a sluice design that’s been on my mind for a while. How hard can it be to make a workable sluice box 🤨🤣. Let’s test it and good or bad this is how it went…

Great video as always. Too bad about the failed sluice box, looked promising, never know until you try. Keep up the adventures, look forward to it every Monday morning when I get into the office.🤫

You should paint it either dark green, blue or black. That way you can see the gold better while you're sluicing to make sure you're getting good material.

I don't have my first D.I.Y. sluices anymore either. I was able to give them away 😆. A romantic creek. The autumn colors are wonderful. Was the big piece at the end gold in your pan? 🇩🇪⚒👍🤠

Sounds like we both scrapped them 😂. That piece at the end that was coppery looking had a black streak when I ran it across a streak plate. May be pyrite or something closely associated.

Think you just need more flow with that setup, I’d give it a shot before making a bird house out of it.😂

Okay what i see as failures-water is too slow for one-you need to get rid of material to stop flat boarding. Second, you need to lift the material in the front and wash away all the light material first. A piece of scrubber from goldhog would work well. In the front below the Scrubber put in some UR mat to keep speed up and have some traps for fine gold. Also I would put in some punch plate or 3d print one to keep it light, but again, you need a serious water flow. Blow out the sluice with speed first then dial it back. Your goal is to keep gold - not black sand and rocks. I can sluice all day without a cleaning until the end. My sluice is much bigger and heavier and I can shovel right into it constantly. Heck 2 or even 3 people could. My punch plate is 3/8 holes-so the punch plate needs to be high enough 1/2" so the rocks can keep tumbling out that fall down. In this video it appears the very first problem is water flow not design. But if you can put a piece of scrubber as soon as material hits the capture area would be ideal.

The water was definitely to slow. This was supposed to be a low flow to high flow box. That’s why I had the wide opening in the back to the small outlet. The biggest problems I saw other than flow rate was the top of the box needs to be flush with no drop and also my riffles need to be deeper, better angled, and spread further apart. Also the nugget trap was creating way too much backflow and slowed down the momentum over the riffles. My riffles were set at 56 degree angles and my Keene A52 is I believe a 70 degree angle at the riffles. I definitely learned a lot from this fail lol. I’m with you totally on keeping it light and the scrubber. I’m in construction and always have scraps of pvc boards leftover so it was more of a work with what ya got scenario. Thanks for the input brother much appreciated! 👊🏻
