Testing a Type 1 Beetle Kennedy stage 2 Pressure plate 

I have been looking for a video of this. Found one a long time ago by a machinist, but can't locate it. But from what I remember you hit this straight on. The sacrifice of the flywheel is worth it so far.

interesting now the breakaway torque test will tell alot about the shim thickness and its effect.

Firstly,....why would you cut the flywheel at a mounting hole?...lol Second,....do you have the stop arm on your clutch pedal? Why are you measuring freeplay at the throwout shaft? Do it at the pedal. Only adjust the wing nut at the tranny to get full release so as to not overextend the pressure plate.....if you have 2" inch free travel at the pedal and it still releases,...go with that. (2" just being an example)

.030 shims worked for me with the black magic disc.

Nice information. Is that a valve spring tester? that you used.
