I just found this channel tonight and I'm SO glad that I did. It's too late right now but I've already decided I'm going to binge watch tomorrow night. I love, love, love the 50's too! I think it would have been a great time to live. They had great style and fashion, manners, respect and seems like lots of clean fun. I like this lady, seems sweet. I'm waaaaay too excited about this, I gotta get a life! 😊
From my earliest memories on Friday nights my grandmother set up a glass of water, rat tail comb, jar of Dippity Do Dah, hair clips and sponge rollers and I had to sit in front of her while she set my hair. Sleeping on the rollers and clips was torture and the comb out in the morning made me grumpy. Saturday morning we would go to the salon my Mom managed and grandma got a wash, set and comb out. My Mom was good and fast because everyone wanted to sit in her chair. You look like a pro doing those pin curls. Thanks for the tutorial and walk down memory lane.
This hair set turned out really cute! I was telling my daughter that this is the hairstyle my mom had in the 1935 era! My mom was 42 in 1955 when I was born! Thanks for showing! Today, watching your video caused me to weep. It was seeing your handsome kitty, Johnny Cash. My beautiful Shetland Sheepdog, recently closed her eyes for the last time. I knew how to live with her. I don't know yet how to live without her. Laci, you are a joy ❤
In the 1950's, my mother always pin curled her, my sister's and my hair every night. I remember how fluffy it turned out the next day. This brought back the memories of my childhood.
Hey lovely I just discovered your channel a couple days ago and let me tell you I love your content 😭!! I love everything about the 1950’s and up !! One of the sweetest youtubers I ever came across!!😭
My mom used to do this, every night and I loved watching her take her hair down in the morning🥰🥰🥰 my hair is too long and too thick or I would do that🥺🥺🥺 Thank you so much for the great memories
Laci Fay, you have such beautiful hair! Your video brings back a memory. 5th grade, it was Friday night, I had super fine long hair that was difficult to keep a curl on for long. On Monday, school class photos were to be taken. My mum set up my hair just as you did, and made me keep the pins on till early Monday morning. When mum removed the pins, my curls were super tight, with barely no time to spare, mum attempted to brush out my hair which made matters worse. I looked like a buffoon with overgrown poodle hair😩😖😫😭🦧-🐩! Skipping school was not an option, nor was skipping the class photo🤣😅! Many thanks for triggering a now funny childhood memory🙆♀️❣ I can never share the photo, let alone look at it, I fear it might trigger PTSD 😅🤣!
My mother often used pincurls. She taught me how to do a pincurl set when I was 13 years old. My mother most often wore her hair in the same style as in this video.
I remember my Mom sitting at the kitchen table with her mirror with a stand her comb and her bobby pins doing up her hair. She did her hair that way for her entire life. She really didn't need the mirror; did it by memory. Took her 15 minutes flat.
I do this easily with large wavy bobbie pins. I put it up wet, wear a scarf overnight to let it air dry. Remove pins in the morning, run my fingers through with a little gel, let it dry, about a minute, then brush out and style. A light spritz of hairspray and I’m ready to go. Or, I allow my simple bob with side part to air dry. Comb or brush from beneath. I have a classic naturally wavy bob. Both are very easy, very fast, and becoming on me.
This is such a beautiful look. You make it look so effortless, even the pincurling. This makes me want to do try doing a pin curl wet set, again. Lately, I've been cheating and doing pincurl sets with a curling iron. I get about 4-5 days out of it. I just don't want the heat damage. Again you are such an inspiration.
Thanks so much! I am definitely out of practice with pincurling! I think I will have to do it more often though, I really like how the set came out. You are the sweetest!
Love your hair I’m a retired hairdresser. You did a great job. Does your husband also dress in vintage style. I wish I could I feel to old to do it but I have a vintage trailer a 1955 Shasta. And at the rally you are in encouraged to dress your trailer and yourself in the era of your trailer. I need to work on me glad to have found you
RC Doodles it’s actually not as tedious as most people think. That’s the best part about doing these hairstyles, you look glamorous without too much effort.
I was one of the few people in my cosmetology school who actually LOVED doing finger waves and pincurls. And I love the page boy style and the Audrey Hepburn Italian Cut from Holliday in Rome. I may have missed it, but was wondering what you are using for setting lotion. Thanks. Great video
It looks great! I remember my mom putting her hair up in the beehive style when I was a kid. I only have about 5 minutes to do my hair in the morning so this would never work for me lol
New subby🥰you were in my recommendations, sooooo glad too!! You are adorable!! You find a portal back to the ’50s please do share!! Cuz I wanna go too!!! I love the way the ’50s just looked so glamorous and innocent, to me anyway🥰 I’m trying out these pin curls and that headscarf too🥰 Thank you for your inspiration!!!🥰
Thank you! I use CYO Lifeproof in the shade 101. Unfortunately, it’s been discontinued! I’m so sad. The Soap & Glory foundation is supposed to be very similar to this one though, so that is what I will try when I run out.
My sister was born in 1940 and she did pin curls from teenage years right up to her dying in 2013. She would show hair stylists how to do them and they were smaller, tighter curls
Laci, you can still get your foundation available CYO LifeProof Long Lasting Foundation Make-Up Shade 101 Satin Matte Finish C.Y.O brand new bottles on ebay for $14. just letting you know. several bottles are still available. I just searched for you a few minutes ago. love your videos... (their are 2 sellers on there)
beautiful you My Nanyn did pin curls all the time She used bobby pins did you use them or clips? I could not see very well what you used. Thank you so much Have a lovely day ( Judy )
Did the woman set their hair every night? If not how did they keep the look with out ruining it when they slept? Not sure if you know the answer.. I just love your video’s. I feel close to my mom when I watch them. She crossed over 7 years ago. I miss her so 😢❤️
Thank you! I normally do a wetset using foam rollers and it only takes about 10 minutes to roll at night. The brush out the next morning is anywhere from 10-20 depending on the style. Then the set will last at least 3 days. Not bad time wise at all!
Hi! No my usual method is foam rollers. It takes me about 10 minutes to roll it the night before and then about 20 to style it depending on the style I choose. My set will last at least 3 days before I need to either re-roll it or do a different style.
Can I ask you to share your base haircut? Do you have a U shape in the back at all? I'm going to be getting my hair cut to do more vintage styles. Your hair type and length seems to be like mine once I have it cut. Any details you are willing to share would really help me take the plunge.
For my hair? No. Usually a good set like this will last for at least 3 days. I can reuse the style or pin some of it up etc. I usually only set my hair a few times a week.
