Got my order of string and beaver silencers. Thank you. Installed the beaver silencers. Now I've gotta learn how to shoot somewhat accurately.
@markoharoldoronearmedpoohb7816
A quite bow is better then arrow speed, speed of sound, 1100’ a second! As you can see you will never shot as fast to get the arrow their before the sound. So the quieter, the better, that’s one of the reasons I hunted with a heavier arrow, to add in bow quietness! I found many years ago that cat whiskers were better then fur silencers, for me anyway, water can saturate some furs or yarns, and if not saturated it can hang on them, most my hunting had heavy Dew, rain and snow! Before adding Silencers, wax the crap out of your string! One more thing, burrs will hang on fur and yarns, it’s just a pain!

The comanche would add little silencers on there shafts laced in the front of the fletchings Making the arrow quiter. (The Key) Add in the bow silencers and 2x good.

They can affect the tune of the bow/arrows i just got a beautiful great plains sr swift recurve at 45 pounds with 12 arrows matched to the bow. Literally shoot like a laser when i got it and it had thoose plastic whiskers on it from them. I removed em and my arrows suddenly shoot all woonky like really wonky nearly like they spiraled a bit. Installed some string silencers again i used paracord without the inner material just the outer casing. Did 4 of them in one bundle. Cut em 1.5 inch. Did that 8 inches from the string loop down and the arrows shoot straight again

I got a set of silencers that arrived from Amazon today for my backup string (currently me only string). waiting for my shatter proof string w/silencers to arrive (which I ordered today). Based on the quality of the silencers I know the string will be out of this world amazing. So I've got six bows in my house (two for me and one for each the wife and kids). My daughter ordered her shatter proof string with mine... Why is it I feel like im going to be buying the other 4 bows strings in soon.... Plus backup strings. Crap I need a second job. That's 12 strings for just my house alone.

I’ve found that it helps if you shave the hair off the ends about a half inch. Gives it a little cleaner look too.

Also a lot of glues get hard and begin forming small sharp edges...I mean idk from any personal experience but it would seem like after prolonged shooting that could begin causing damage to the string. Or not...🤷‍♂️ Sure sounds good though.

Saw a video about where to put it from a guy (Out the Cave) who seemed to be an engineering type person and he had an explanation about the harmonics/vibrations of the string. TLDR his math shows that putting the silencers in the space between 1/6 and 1/5 the length of the string cancels many of the noisiest harmonics/vibrations of the string. I tried it with small fur (6" strip) silencers and it absolutely worked turning a twangy string into a thump quieter than the sound of the arrow hitting the bag at 10 meters. Kramer's 1/4 length of string seems to work and is a simple rule of thumb, but it seems like it could be better with just a little more math.
@Makka316
@Makka316 2 года назад
Yes that's what I do as well. I try to cover both even and odd harmonics by either putting one a 1/4 up from the bottom and the other 1/5 down from the the top or alternatively for shorter strings 1/5 up from bottom and 1/6 down from the top.

By placing the fur asymmetrically it will dampen the sound more

Day 1 of asking for superglue and soda bow backing, so my idea is simple you make a bow and start coating it in superglue and powder on soda it should make a hard backing

Do you know of an alternative for beaver to silence the bow? Thanks for having your channel, you have resparked my interest in archery! I have since purchased some of the bows you reviewed as well as made great purchases from your online store. May The Heavenly Father Bless you and your family and your business.

YARN! Look up how to make yarn bow silencers here on RU-vid, they are waterproof, super easy to make, way cheaper, and you can make them any color or combination of colors you can imagine

I raised and butchered rabbits a couple years ago. Got into hide tanning around the same time. 5 out of 6 bows in my house have rabbit fur silencers on them. Visually the hair is a bit longer on Beaver. Sound wise not that much difference. Rabbit fur is like 12 dollars one that internet ordering place that starts with an A. If your just doing one bow buy beaver. If your doing more rabbit hide works well you just have to cut it to size.

I tried beaver silencers and they worked well except they weren't so good when wet. Same with wool silencers. Haven't tried making them from yarn as mentioned above so I'll have to try that one day. At the moment I make them from paracord sheathing. There's a number of videos on youtube showing how to do it. It's pretty cheap, dead simple to do, waterproof, lots of color options, and adds less weight to the string than some of the other options

Where I hunt we have loads of burrs locally known as beggar's lice. How are the fur silencers with burrs? I tried wool yarn and that was great at silencing, but one trip to the woods and my bottom silencer was a matted mass of burrs. So far, all I've found that can both silence the string and tolerate burrs is cat whiskers...ugly but effective.
@ShatterproofArchery
@ShatterproofArchery Год назад
That is a great question! I would guess it would be less likely to hold burrs than wool yarn but it may still grab some.

Nice video. So, if the kocking point is not centered at the string as it use to be, silencers are not placed in a simetrical spot, isn´t it?
@josephseebart8488
@josephseebart8488 2 года назад
The nocking point should not be centered in the serving. It should be square with the shelf or rest. I place all my silencers at 11" from top and 13 from bottom. Not sure where I got those numbers from but it seems to work well
@sierraridgereaper
@sierraridgereaper Год назад
@@josephseebart8488 yours are set correctly.. silincers should be 1/4 down on top limb and 1/3rd up on bottom limb.
@riccoratzo

Because a glue was mentioned in the video... You NEVER want to get a glue near your string not only because of flexibility like said in the video but more because it can damage the string fibres.. at the worst the sring may break during a shot... Nobody wants that. So thats the main resaon why better not put glue on the string.
@dbz24

I mean, why put beaver silencers if it'll lessen the speed of your string? Wouldn't you want your string to be fast?

Do you remove the silencers when you wax your bowstring? Because if you leave them on, you cant wax that part of the string.
@ShatterproofArchery
@ShatterproofArchery 3 года назад
Yes that is a great point. Personally I had not thought of this so I have not removed them to wax the string. But that is a great point that if you want the string to last as long as possible it might be a good idea to touch it up every so often.
@josephseebart8488
@josephseebart8488 2 года назад
I don't currently. Just wax up to them... But then again I never really thought about it. I always pre-wax before silencer install. Not sure it would be an issue at my current rate of use as I seem to be burning to through string
@sierraridgereaper
@sierraridgereaper Год назад
@@josephseebart8488 if the string was waxed good prior to install of silencers then once the silencers are installed they cover and keep the wax encapsulated on that portion of the string.

4-5% slower is a HUGE decrease for those of us interested in shooting field or any sort of shooting beyond 20-30 yards. Archers spend hundreds on limbs just to pickup a 1-2% increase in speed.
@JimiInTheJungle
@JimiInTheJungle Год назад
4-5 FPS* not percent. Going from 171FPS to 168FPS is about a 2% decrease

171-168 FPS= 3 3÷171= 0,0175 0,0175x100= 1,75% decrease in speed using that particular silencer.
