Dylan Jaeb's Lazy Flick technique comes from watching his instagram clips. Dylan Jaeb sometimes does a super low to the ground fast but lazy flick. In this video I try to replicate that technique to help me land Nollie Flips which is a trick Dylan Jaeb make's look effortless but for me Nollie flips are a struggle. Comment W Dylan if you want to see Dylan in a video!

I think Dylan's laid back style comes only after years of having to actually work for it. Its muscle memory.

Agree there is sooo much more than just foot positioning. There's arm position, shoulders, hips, head. And also how those things move as you jump and land. And also the timming of the jump with respect to when you pop. It's honestly quite a lot going on haha. Not too mention muscle memory and just intuitive board control as you pointed out.

For anyone struggling with nollie flips, take it from someone who's been drilling nollie and switch for 5 months straight. There's a couple of things that you have to do different to your standard kick flip. You HAVE to have a solid nollie. Second, when you pop the nollie, it's not a downward popping motion, it's more of a forward popping motion. That pushing motion for me helps time the flick which brings me to my third tip. The nollie flip is all about timing. You HAVE to lift the popping foot for the board to level out and that's the secret to the timing. You flick after you lift the front foot.

@@skateboard446 no prob, you'll get them. Once my nollie improved and I figured out how and when to flick, it all started to come together. I'd even suggest to learn the nollie variation before switch. I'm starting to land switch kick flips and I've only been trying them for maybe 2 weeks. Nollie seems to be the hard way but pays off when you start learning the trick switch.

@atypical_blk_guy
@atypical_blk_guy Год назад
You're not lifting your popping foot, that's why yours is staying rocket. I've been skating only nollie and switch for 4 months straight and that's a key component of the nollie flip. Instead of pushing downward, pop the nollie in a forward direction. Pushing forward creates a dragging feeling so when you flick it helps level it out. It seems like you're trying to find a cheat code to compensate for your lack of jumping height. As someone who is obsessed with flexibility and mobility, there's no cheat code to work around the lack of flexibility. Myself and others have commented numerous times that doing simple squats with a weight would benefit you so much. Hopefully one day you'll figure out the hack you need doesn't require a skateboard.

one thing i think of when doing a nollie flip is like my fakie flips. when going backwards (fakie) my shoulders are open in that direction. so when doing nollie turn your back shoulder out so your flipping foot doesn't get stuck and you have that range of motion available.

The best way to learn I found is to practice the trick on pretty much every obstacle, for example for the KF I just did it off a curb, then up a curb, into a drop-in and off a kicker,.. until you do it on bigger sets or up a few stairs regularly. That way you learn how to pop your trick/adjust your body in every situation possible and in no time you'll see the instant progress once you're back just doing it on flatground. Doing regular motion exercises like squats and dynamic stretches really helped get more explosive too.
@kylespevak6781
@kylespevak6781 Год назад
More time to rotate the trick. My best friend who has skated pretty much his entire life told me I was wrong when I said I think tricks would be easier off of ledges or downstairs sets. Obviously really big gets harder but for a small ledge or a few stairs doing something like a double flip would definitely be easier

@jordans2346
@jordans2346 Год назад
it’s not as “unconventional” as you think. it’s been a technique for decades. it’s a way to get a quicker snap and higher pop. I’ll say it’s pretty difficult to build the habit to pop that way because timing will be off, but as you work at it, things come out really well. hope that helps 😁

I would get your basic switch flip down before you go to nollie flip it but if your going to then with your popping foot almost roll your board forward and let it push into your foot it helps do them easier if you don’t have any flick strength yet. For a switch flip pop a high switch Ollie and lift up the board while your flicking that Ollie and flick off the side after you gain some height it gives you more time to land and looks incredible and makes your switch feel more comfortable overtime.

Tried the same technique when I saw Dylan posted that clip. However, I mimicked the motion too. You can see Dylan really lifts his back foot and flicks forward. And this turns out to be the key for me. Kickflips are now nice and tweaked! But one thing to mention is that in order to mimic the motion, flexibility and mobility is key. There’s really no hack or cheat when it comes to skating.

The secret to Dylan Jaebs style is floating in the air as long as you can and flipping the board quite slowly. He style is the opposite for instance Sewa Kroetkow, who admittely pops high but he flicks super fast, catches the board immediately and stomps down the board hard. Dylan Jaeb on the other floats like he's weightless.

Stop leaning and start pulling your feet up, more, and all of your tricks will be improved. Neither require you to "jump" higher. Not trying to be a dick but you're bending your back on the squat and leaning forward, I'm no physiologist but that seems like a lack of core strength... Leaning towards the outside of the wheels is throwing off your center of balance and that limits your ability to, jump, straight upward and to land, properly. Keep your upper back straight and don't roll your shoulders, forward, because that dips your head too and swings your weight in that direction - keep your chin up and shoulders in line with how you want the board to be orientated, lead with the forward knee and bend your legs, only. Shoulders (and arms) go up, then down, then up, again. You just want to straighten that back out. Your shoulders should not be leaning over the edge of the board.... Secondly, tuck those feet in, towards your back pockets, after you do the trick. If you jump 2 feet high (where the bottom of your shoe reaches) and you don't tuck in/up your feet, your tricks will never go higher than a foot or less and not have time to level out/complete rotation/give your other foot time to get out of the way and then back onto the board. I get it, it's a matter of physical limitations. I'm 36 and trust me, I have to be extra careful to not get broke off and seriously hurt because my body is at that point of showing the signs of living a hard life...anyway, even in my situation, I can better my situation through conditioning. Work on squats, weighted squats and unweighted, work on ankle flexibility, work on static jumps (jumping in place) and focus on tucking those feet upward and keep the back straight. Work on your core strength, too. It's not very difficult and trust me, it will improve your skating and your life, in general. Not trying to be harsh, so don't take it like that, just a couple observations and what I think, might help you get to the "next level" with your skating 🤙🤙
@atypical_blk_guy
@atypical_blk_guy Год назад
I've tried telling him the same thing. I don't think he lacks core strength (even though he could benefit from getting more core strength) but he has a flexibility / mobility problem. Your comment even points it out because like you said, he is leaning his body to compensate for the lack of hip flexibility. I think he'd rather find a shortcut than address the real problem. It'll hit him when he gets closer to 40. He's talked about knee issues but fails to realize that having tight hamstrings and calves puts a lot tension around the knee. Trust me, I tore my meniscus when I was 25 because I was so tight in my lower body. I don't think any of us are trying to be rude, but it's super annoying when you have people all pointing out the same problem. I'm being a little harsh because I don't want him to get to the point where even doing normal activities becomes a problem and turns into back problems.
@vancouverbill
@vancouverbill Год назад
You guys are both right but Im not sure if strength or mobility is the issue. A lot of really good skaters like koston, Dylan jaeb or Paul Rodriguez keep their backs up a lot, almost still and keep the moment in the lower body. It helps with your balance and if your back is up right you have more space to move your legs. I have exactly the same bad habit though and I think a lot of it comes from lack of confidence. On a bad day I lean forwards towards my board and this gives me no space to pop. On a good day I stand up, roll my shoulders back and flip tricks feel a lot less work. It's a bad habit which is easy to fall back into though as leaning forwards feels safer as closer to the ground
