Just so you know, the passive bonuses to spells from staves don't care which staff you're using. You can cast from one and get the bonus from the other. Same for seals. Also, the bonuses stack multiplicatively, so you can double up on the same casting tool!
@@rishadkazi8698yes. Let's take the giants Seal as an example. Using a Giant's Flame or Flame Monk Incantations multiplies the scaling by 1.20. Having one Seal in each Hand cause them to apply both buffs multiplicative, so 1,20 x 1,20 = 1,44/ 44%more incant scaling.
It's really a shame that most games don't let you use water as a magic or power. The animations would be so fun to watch as you splash your enemies with water jets or tidal waves imo.
Fun fact: Full Moon Spells can "eat" projectile type spells, acting as a potential shield. That property also applies to Rennala's fight. It's not incredible on reaction but it can help against spam if you manage to pull it off.
Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but cold sorceries are boosted by 10 percent from Ranni’s hat. This also applies to Dark Moon, which means it’s boosted by the scepter and the hat.
You should re-try the magma sorceries using a different catalyst. The Gelmir staff has AWFUL spell scaling. Just hold it in your off hand and cast with an actually good staff.
Yeah. Basically when it comes down to it, there are only like four viable staves in the game. Catalysts seem a bit better in diversity, but not much.@@monkwashere
Hey Monk! Great video! Just a quick note, the two clayman sorceries are boosted by the albinauric staff. And you can also use two of the same staff (or seal when incantation video is out) to boost it twice damage wise. Good stuff though.
No, bubble spells are not boosted by the Albinauric Staff. No idea where you got that from but it's neither part of the staffs item description not is there any "hidden" bonus as part of the actual params (the file that lists all the weapon/spell/projectile behavior and such) The only unique interaction with the Albinauric staff is increased bleed buildup with Thorn sorceries because of the arcane scaling.
I think Youwy was the one who talked about Loretta's GB vs Loretta's Mastery, and Mastery only hits a little bit harder, but also has an issue where the lowest arrow almost always hits the ground when it's fired flat, which will effectively make it deal less damage every time compared to normal Loretta's. You have to shoot it up to get that arrow not to hit the ground. Kind of a big oversight. I've seen a trick in PvP where people power up the spell and free aim upwards, then lock onto a player and release the shot before their character can angle back down. Then it arcs the shot up, and the tracking is good enough to take care of the rest.
Okay, so some pointers. First, when making a sorcery build, you're gonna want an INT level of 80 for max DPS. Next, even though some sorceries get buffs from specific staves, it doesn't matter. The best staves are Lusat's staff, Carian Regal Scepter, and Crystal Staff, and the amount of scaling they give will absolutely out-muscle whatever buffs the other staves can give. BUT! That doesn't mean you should ignore those buffing staves. Just keep those staves in your off-hand, and use one of the three best staves as a primary. If you keep the Staff of Loss in your left hand, and cast Night Comet with the Lusat's staff in your right hand, you'll get the buff from the Staff of Loss anyway. Next, Crystal Barrage is absolutely not terrible, and can do thousands of damage points with the right setup, and it's ease of use, and FP efficiency can potentially make Crystal Torrent and Comet Azur obsolete.
Actually, the best staff is Azur. 40 vdex is incredibly powerful, especially considering that you can often get 1 more tali slot cause you might not need the vdex tali.
do the bonuses stack? for exmple, if i use the blue staff with the night staff in my left hand, am I getting both the night bonus and the spell cast time bonus?
The aberrant sorceries, though few in number, are truly fantastic in my experience. Briars of Sin is excellent for baiting out trades as not many people expect the third cast and try to go in for the trade only to proc bleed on themselves. Briars of Punishment is fantastic for casting at enemies who are far away as it can travel a crazy far distance and slowly build up bleed on enemies. I found that this kind of blood mage build works best with Alberich clothes, Staff of the Guilty in one hand, and the Albinauric staff in the other. You cast through the Albinaric staff for the increased damage and bleed build up, but get the boost to aberrant sorceries by simply holding the other staff. Truly an underrated build in my experience.
So as someone who has only really played Elden Ring, starting with magic made it real easy. Then starting character 2 as a melee fighter I felt like I was playing a completely different game 😅
I also did magic on my first play through and melee on the second one, but that actually made it easier for me (for most parts of the game) I think it relies really heavily on personal play style, since I rely heavily on stance pressure and roll attacks. Edit: I am only talking about my pve experience here
Oh I totally agree. Most games I usually go magic but I enjoyed melee more than magic,,, in Elden Ring at least. Using magic definitely helped me learn move sets of enemies and prep for a melee run though so that was nice. My favorite run so far was my cold claymore with incantations or dual Blood Great Stars, great loadouts 😄
As a Loretta Mastery enjoyer I can share few tips: 1. Cast some aoe to keep people away from you and make your magic greatbow harder to be seen. (ice storm/mist/rain of stars 2. One arrow explodes earlier and messes up people's roll timing. If people just stand waiting for your shot - lock off, aim down and lock on again to make sure arrows will not explode at the same time 3. Charged arrows are actually AoE - one of the easiest ways to land it is to fire it right under your feet when somebody's trying to hit you.
Glad to see some love for sorceries! Though you kind of need dual staves and higher level to show how good these spells are. Going from 60 to 80 int would give you around 20% extra damage while melee gets around 10%. Plus 10-20% from dual wielding
Watching you test the Primeval Sorceries using both fp-cost increasing staffs while having so little Mind is one of those moments that instills true suffering into my bones This man is using all of his FP
Founding Rain of Stars defiantly needs to be buffed, but it's not entirely underwhelming. It's got some great bait potential as it shares it's casting animation with Stars of Ruin, and is likely to trick an opponent into rushing you.
The funny thing about that is that Founding Rain of Stars was actually Nerfed in a previous patch oddly enough and it wasn't even strong or anything pre nerf, I believe the nerf came in the same patch as the one that Stars of Ruin was nerfed in actually.
Crystal release I had one really good use, getting a host panicked in a small room and it just melts them. Founding Rain of Stars is great chip damage and good to pair with shard spiral for massive bosses.
doesn't matter which staff you actually cast with for the bonus, just need to be holding it, or have it on your hip to get the effect, as long as it's in an active weapon slot you're good reason that faith guy was holding Azur's is for the cast speed buff, that works with incants too, but oddly they don't cost additional fp, unlike sorcery crystal torrent is basically the kamehameha spell, but lower memory and fp cost, you really do have to free aim it on a good read to land it in pvp, but i argue it better than the beam
Me watching in horror as you pair up the Lusat Staff and the Azur Staff, increasing the cost of some already expensive spells even further: Anyways, if you wanna take another crack at sorceries, or need some help with incantations, try unlocking to throw the spell where your opponent is going to be. The default response to spells with long windups is to strafe and punish, so if you unlock to aim behind you then you're gonna have a lot less trouble hitting them, especially with spells that have little to no tracking like the Gelmir spells or Cannon of Haima. It might also be a good idea to aim the Roiling Magma at your feet as an area denial tool rather than trying to land it on your opponent, put some strategy into where you point your delayed kaboom.
Gelmir's staff get the most sorcery scaling by an even distribution of int and faith with a soft cap at 45/45. After that the prince of death staff starts to scale better; i think that this is the primary reason why the damage was bad, you had not an optimized distribution of stats; still really interesting and nice video!
I like to use night maiden's mist in invasions as a zoning tool, it especially works well if you're in a catacomb or cave where you can block off an entire hall while launching projectiles through it. Pair it with magma sorceries and you can fill an entire hallway with chip damaging AOEs
The gravity well spells i feel like are better used as a utility/when paired with something you can actually *pull* enemies into. Like a mist cloud, magma pool, or a volcanic throwing pot
Great Oracular Bubble has a niche use in PvE if you have the jump on a large enemy. Since it moves slow, you can have multiple projectiles inbound before the enemy even knows you're there
So, it might seam unbelievable, but I was on my way to try an Int faith hybrid build that was going to contain Rykard rancor as one of the main spell, so it’s kinda the first time I will be interested into spells
you can hit people over the head with your staffs when using sorceries, and it helps a ton, seriously, its something i used to do in dark souls 3, if someone is being annoying and closing the distance CONSTANTLY, slap em with your stick, if they persist you can just get FREE DAMAGE with it
Founding Rain of Stars has 3 (and only 3) uses. 1. To discourage melee fighters from getting too close to you while you're casting something else. 2. In PvE, it can hit enemies hiding under ledges directly below you that you can't target with other Ranged attacks. 3. The Aesthetic It may not be the best spell, but it's still one of my favorites.
Great Oracular Bubble is so fun in PvE! It deals really good damage, especially if you maximize on magic damage buffs, and you can set up multiple bubbles at once because of their slow movement and long projectile lifespan!
Hi Monk, you could do a "Testing every weapon buff to see their beautiful colors" video or something like that, the buffs I had seen are Cragblade AoW Royal Knight's Resolve AoW (I know is not exactly a weapon buff but it changes the color of the weapon for a moment) Fire (AoW Flaming Strike) Blood Flame (Spell) Black Flame (Spell) Magic (Spell) Holy (Spell or AoW Sacred Blade) Lightning (Spell or AoW Lightning Slash) Red Lightning (AoW Vyke's Dragonbolt) Blood (AoW Seppuku) Ice (Spell or AoW Chilling Mist) Poison (Spell or AoW Poisonous Mist) Scarlet Rot (Rot Grease) Sleep (Soporific Grease or AoW Mist of Slumber from Sword of St. Trina) Anti-Dragon (Dragonwound Grease) And some exclusives ones: Ghostflame (AoW of Helphen’s Steeple) Ice Lightning (AoW of Dragon Halberd or Dragonscale Blade) Death Flare (AoW of Eclipse Shotel) I hope you take it into consideration and Happy New Year pal 😊
Go full StoneDigger Both Sorcerries are great with decent armor + iron jar aromatic to boost poise. Walk people down. Pickaxe is fun to use as well. They even have throwables.
Quick note, the Snow Witch Hat buffs cold sorceries, and the carian glintstone staff buffs the swords, including Adula's Moonblade. These buffs stack. In PvE, this combination is REALLY strong against large enemies, because it hits multiple times.
Aberrant sorceries can also be a good combo tool. Gigasthicas has this mean combo of Sleep -> Briars of Sin -> Briars of Punishment. The first briar punish the sleep, and the second catch the roll.
I've created a lot of human pancakes by putting on a bit of pressure with stuff like shard spiral or star shower, then trading with gavel of haima when the opponent rushes in to shut me down. Gavel of haima is definitely one of my favorites. It solves a lot of problems in PvE too.
As a melee fan, magic is fine. It's all easy enough to dodge and people who overly rely on a strong ability tend to be too bad to adapt to someone who can handle it.
There is 3 other category left apart from main categories which is Sacred seals(incantations) and Tools that have 4 damaging item(Wraith calling bell,Omen bairn,Regal omen bairn,Ancestral infant's head) and there is shileds too if you count maybe ash of wars too
The boosts that staves give you still apply if you have it in your off-hand and cast the actual spell with a different staff, btw. That's why it's better to have 1 high-scaling staff in your main hand, like carian regal sceptre(or lusat's glintstone staff if you're ok with 50% more fp cost), and then keep the staff that boosts the sorceries you are using in the off-hand. For NG+, some staves have a high enough boost to their class of sorceries that dual wielding them will give you more overall damage than the above mentioned combo, however it would obv only work for those sorceries in particular. Edit 1: Also, something to keep in mind, the claymen sorceries are better in pve. Or more specifically the great oracular bubble, you can use it as a set-up spell and fully charged I've seen it do like fucking 4k damage per hit. Plus the slow travel speed really fucks with enemies that have dodge ai Edit 2: From what I know Adula's moonblade and carian greatsword have the same animations and everything, so casting greatsword and then quickly switching to moonblade can catch people off guard since they won't expect a projectile Edit 3: Crystal torrent also is way better in pve. It's functionally identical to comet azur, but unlike that spell it actually has some tracking, only costs 1 spell slot instead of 3, and in general is just more practical. Comet azur is only good for very certain boss fights when you REALLY want that extra damage
Lesson of the day: Intelligence builds have the range of a bow build and the damage of a strength build. They are, in fact, incredibly unbalanced and unfun to chase a spellcaster only to get one shot. He won most of the fights and said himself that he did not use them before.
This video was so great, especially as I sit here at my local Chilis gobbling down my Just Bacon Burger. One might say I'll have my own Ancient Death Rancor in the toilet afterwards... Cheers!
Gelmir's fury feels random, but it definitely can do MASSIVE dmg. I melted some people from 0 to 100% doing 2k dmg with this thing. The problem is lack of hyperamor, so maybe using ironjar perfumes would work well.
Thanks for your comments at the end, people hate magick because its annoying, ye the truth is, people hate anything that isnt a colossal weapon thats easy to dodge. The guy you fought who just switched to estoc and spammed R1 the whole match is an example.
Great video like always! I would like to mention though, the magma sorceries performed so poorly because the Gelmir staff scales off int AND faith, and you didn't have a lot of faith. A regular int staff would've resulted in much higher numbers. Also, the Carian Regal Scepter and Crystal Staff both get a huge boost in scaling if you go from 60 int to 80. That's where the sauce is. 🤤
Founding Rain of Stars is not a by-itself spell. It's underwhelming because it's supposed to be, you cast it and then do other things while it's raining.
i hope some of the weakest spells/very niche spells get buffed or worked on. there's a huge disparity between what is powerful/ very commonly used and the aforementioned spells. would love to see some diversity in mages, as well as incantation users
magic is just easy to dodge if you know it's coming. It takes a skilled caster using combos and usually some kind of melee pressure to land anything on a competent player
I think the biggest mistake people make when evaluating sorceries is that they focus solely on damage. Damage alone is a poor metric to judge a spell because it fails to take into account the other aspects of spell casting. Fp cost and utility effects like poise damage, tracking and cast time need to be taken into account. More damage does not equal more effective. If anything the more effective a spell is the harder it is to pull off with out set up. People are too quick to toss spells into the useless category because they fired it off once or twice saw damage that was low with out understanding why the damage was low. Spell hit boxes can be weird, their damages can be resisted, your staff scaling might not be good for where you are in the game or their purpose lies not in damage but it the utility.
shattering crystal has me in shambles. First i saw Rennala using it and in her hands it SHREDS, once it oneshotted me! Then i got that spell myself, and not only it looks a bit different, it's also hits like a handful of confetti instead of sharp crystals! What a disappointment...
You can think what you want but while melee is considered more unga bunga, you have to as a melee most times close distance, magic casters doesn't even have to move closer, they just press a button to fire nonsense at you, and you have to even dodge that to get closer to your target as a melee fighter, to even land a hit you have to make them mistime your attacks, and then you are back to the magic user running away again, the people thinking magic requires any actual skill are fools, if you optimize magic the damage output is insane, and it can be on swords to, but not in same league. Strength builds is the only build that lets you go above the max stat cap, but if you never hit a single hit, well you do 0 damage. The nastiest possible build is probably xbow or shortbow, cause the distance and speed you can achieve on that. The only limiting factor on wizard/sorc buils is the manapool, once it runs out, they have to resort to either bottles or some kinda offhand.
