Finally it's there: the testing video for the new Recording The Masters FOX K-7 audio cassette tape! A while ago we showed you the very first samples of this brand new audio cassette tape, which was developed by the French company. Now you can see how we compare the tape poperties with other well-known ferric tapes from the past.
This video has been shortened to make it no too boring, especially the cassette calibration procedure. I have the cassette comparing part also available as an uncut version for people who are interested in the performance of the old tapes that are used in the comparison.

Great video! I think there is a slight channel imbalance and also the bias is not set properly, because it seems that the tape sound is brighter than the source.

It was the first thing i heard. Sounds good. Bias is not correct i think also.

It remains a Type I, but I am glad it at least outperforms the last incarnation of the Maxell UR, the last ones available new at a reasonable price. I hope this line will be viable and results in 90 minuts variants and maybe once again a Type II tape.

There's very few chromium dioxide tapes. There's a justin bieber type 2 tape that was available recently. But people say chromium dioxide tapes can never be made again..

Very interesting indeed! I just hope that they will have a price point that keeps it sufficiently economic. When you did the BIAS adjust, as far as I know it with my Technics tape deck, isn't it supposed to have both meters for 400 and 10k Hz aligned the same? It appeared to me that the BIAS was slightly too low and I could hear a moderate emphasis on the high-frequencies on the tape compared to the source. Nevertheless, a great review! I still hope for them or someone else to come up with a new Chrome or possibly Metal tape. The latter NOS are really prohibitively expensive while the Ferro Type I tapes aren't that much sought after.

I think I prefer the tape output rather than the source, it seems to have better treble response... How can that be?

The ferric oxide must've improved.

I think his bias settings were a bit lower than needed, resulting in a brighter sound and potentially (in music with greater peak dynamics) more distortion. The recording preamplification electronics on his excellent early-1990s Aiwa deck may have some age-related changes which have sweetened (distorted in an ear-pleasing way) the recording, or which may have subtly affected the accuracy of the "source/tape" sound feed. I'm sensing this has happened on some vintage tape decks I've been using: there are a lot of electronic parts which can gradually drift away from optimum specs over a period of years even though they still are functioning. FYI I am with you - the taped copy was more enjoyable to listen to and even seemed a bit more spacious than the source. Like the videographer, I've been delighted with my recordings on RTM Fox C-60 tapes.

Did you calibrate that Aiwa to the Fox? The difference between source and tape is way too big, to the average listener there should be no difference between source and tape, especially with Dolby C. Also, the balance is off in tape mode, which means either the tape is not tracking properly, or the mech in that Aiwa needs service.

LOL audio test with dolby C. I bet that between all listed casettes there will be no audible difference in blind test with dolby C enabled, as it has anti saturation mechanism and you cant really test maximum peak levels of the tape. In my opinion test is flawed and it gives us nothing. The only usefull thing is THD from the list, no MOL values...
