We are using Rancilio MD50 + Gaggia Pure since 2009. I like manual and having control over the output, but I do find that most of the time, we do the same 2 or 3 drinks and the barista in me is feeling underused. The Pure is getting tired, so we will try the Academia for a while. With our kids in school, mornings are now a busier time and the morning routine of crafting coffee feels like a [small] burden. Making lunches and talking about the day's schedule is a new valuable time.

Hi, I appreciate your video. I totally agree with your reasoning, however I prefer manual machines, especially from Gaggia, Lelit, La Pavoni. Ciao

Well done!! I would LOVE to get a fully manual or semi automatic espresso machine but i simply have no time in the AM. I was debating that Gaggia and i think you actually sold me on it. I hate having to open the front to just get rid of the pucks but hey? Nothing’s perfect:).

I wanted to see the puck, Pedro! 😝 I had a full auto in the long distant past but, to be honest, I found the cleaning of them (especially the milk container,) to take far more effort than a manual. Even with instant (that my husband drinks), I can pull a shot on my E1P and Atom, steam the milk and clean up after myself is a shorter time span than it takes my husband to boil the kettle. In an office environment, I find it’s even worse with a full auto - no one bothers to clean the machines, and wonder why everything tastes funky. So, full manual all the way!

My husband is an amazing at home barista, I am not. So when hes away I dont use our espresso machine. Now I can enjoy my favorite coffees at the touch of a button. And clear the counter.

Manual way, but I go out and pick my coffee beans and grind em using a drill grinder. Then start a fire outside with a pot of water to pour over the coffee. Finally, I make my own coffee cups with glass making before I drink my coffee.

Always enjoyed your videos but really have to pull you up on this one. You do an Auto v Man machine and then don't even do a full auto drink. So what was the point??? My parents have this machine, and they purchased it specifically to be a bean to cup machine as didn't want the faff. But they found the milk to be very cold and lowered the overall temp to much. Now the milk temp can't be changed so ended up doing the milk manually anyway. So they are looking to trade it in very soon. Disappointing purchase indeed.

There IS a button to adjust the milk temperature and on my machine it works fine. Tell your parents about it. Lots of excellent reviews for this machine worldwide.

@@ellcor I keep reading about the cold milk. You can make the auto frothed milk hotter? Looking to purchase this machine, that's the only thing holding me back

@@justwatchingvids1560 despite my earlier reply I never found a way to get the milk hot. Also the constant auto cleaning cycles, having to empty the bin and filling with water all the time put me off. It’s now gathering dust on a shelf. I cannot recommend this machine. An expensive mistake. I bought a Breville Oracle which I love.

I’m totally a manual person, La Marzocco to be precise. I can see a fully automatic machine in an office setting - maybe, though the maintenance would be a concern. The cleaning process, combined with the lower quality espresso, would be a dealbreaker for me.

I actually still find manual machines somewhat easier to use and clean. (yet I'm probably somewhat biased)
