Ceramic plates are great for paint. I usually pick them up at thrift stores. They're especially great for watercolor because the paint spreads out unlike a plastic palette where it stays in droplets.

A possible source of cheap ceramic palettes are tiles. Either new or used, you can get them white, glossy, and modify the back to be more holdable.

I use standard ceramic tiles found in a hardware store for working my clay work! 12/12 cleans up perfectly! Smaller one make great mini pallets for your on the go painting kits.

I got a little ceramic trinket dish shaped like a jack-o-lantern a few years ago that I use as a paint pallet. I like it a lot better than the plastic pallets I’ve tried

The ceramic is a great idea and gave me an idea! Ive also seen glass paint palletes, i make fused glass pieces, i should totally make a glass pallete

I love the feel of a ceramic palette! So much nicer than a plastic one. ❤ You briefly showed the one I got from MuddyCeramicArt in your scroll through Etsy Palettes! 😍 I can highly recommend it - the black dots make me smile every time I use it. So nice not to have a scruffy stained plastic palette anymore - staining pigments like Phthalo blue and green are a nightmare on plastic but are no problem on ceramic! 🎉

I like using a tempered glass sheet for a pallette. I got my latest one for $10 at the craft store, but Tonic Glass Craft Mat is probably the most well-known one. The white tempered glass mats are so much cheaper and work just the same though. They can be used for any liquid media and they clean off so easily.

I use Japanese ceramics for my paints! A sake set is perfect for clean and dirty water… sauce holders work too! Small plates / cheeseboard ceramics also work great! Again cheaper ! But I save my small insert plastics from the kitchen . (Rice cups are the best! ) When they get too dirty I toss. ( or use it to seed plants!) They last a long time and they are free!

Do you ever go to second hand stores or Goodwill type stores? You can find lots of different ceramic options to use for a paint palette at a fraction of the cost of any of the things you’ve been showing us. And it’s good for the environment because you are reusing something that may have gone into the landfill! Just a suggestion.

Living in a dry area, using a stay wet palette might be better for your acrylics.

I use the Americana DuraClear varnish. It comes in glossy, satin, and matte. It does not smell. I've had pretty good experiences with using it on acrylic paint. I would say you definitely gotta treat and seal the surface you work on before using acrylics.

Mod Podge and I don't get along. In college we had a big mixed media project that spanned three weeks of classes and the professor bought giant bottles of mod podge to seal them. I don't know what happened but my project and two others stayed sticky after they dried. We even put them in the drying cabinet and they came out sticking to our hands. So everything that touched them made a mark. Fingerprints, dust and hair. I almost cried. Three weeks of work ruined. I've never trusted mod podge since. I want a butcher tray paint palette but not with the price they run. I've been looking around thrift stores for something similar. Eventually something will turn up. I kind of like the sketchbook idea too where you use a page in a mixed media book and then have an abstact background to use in something else.

Just get a 10x10 ceramic tile (or whatever size) at a home improvement store and you'll have a great and very affordable palette for any type of paint. Scrape dried paint off with a palette knife and wash with soap and water.

This may be off topic to your video but sea lemon do you have a video where you do perfect binding for individual sheet of paper to a cover as i have sheets of paper from older school note book ive pulled out and ive wanted to make them into proper note books for a while i think i watched one but i dont know ifnyou have a video to attach a cober as well

If you’re totally paranoid about your creation, like me, try clear marine varnish. I used it on a wooden chest I painted and I don’t think it has yellowed in @* years.
