I downloaded "L1020118.DNG" to compare the ISO 50 to my Canon EOS-5D3, and the difference was very noticeable. You also nailed the focus brilliantly.. Thanks Matt & Steph 😊👍🏼

I’m very impressed with Steph and her ability to withstand the cold in a crop top! And kudos to you Matt. I’m a baby when it comes to the cold, but I’ve been in that shooting situation before and I know how hard it is to focus when your hands are literally freezing. Call me an amateur but I don’t see that much of a difference between the $12,000 lens and what you might get with much less expensive ($1000-2000) lens. I would’ve like to hear more commentary on your part Matt as to what you feel insofar as whether it would justify the extra expenditure on your part if you didn’t have it as a loaner.

I'd like to see a test done between Canon/Nikon flagship bodies and Portrait lenses and this set up to see the difference. Usually these test show that you are getting at best 5-10% increase in performance for about four or five times the price.

I just bought the Rokinon 85mm F1.2 today, I can't imagine this thing is 20x better. Bought it mostly for astrophotography because all of my other Rokinon super fast lenses are so damn sharp. But I can imagine there will be plenty of things to do with it.

Hi Matt..commenting on your video for the first time ever I think, but have been watching them since last 3 years at least. Here are my thoughts - 1) Love 75mm but was thinking of Fuji 56 APD all the time 2) you might want to use Sony A7 series for steady shot and 3) adore your kittens/cats, the one that was enjoying as you stroked its tummy :-)
@jensvielmann7662

The fog in the background kind of distracted me from evaluating the bokeh in detail. But yes, like others have mentioned, I am very interested in your verdict. Does this enormous price tag buy you the Leica sticker or is it really that much better. If you could put it in context, please, it would help a lot. E.g. a comparison to other products (Like the Otus / or just a comparable Sigma Art) and evaluation if this notilux gain in quality(if their is any) is in line with the higher price. Thanks

Nice images as always, Matt! But frankly, I cannot see the value in this $13K lens, when I can get similar image detail with my $1600 Fujifilm X-Pro2, $950 Fujinon XF90 f/2, a good tripod, and careful focus stacking! (Of course, with a static subject!) :-)

I've downloaded a couple of the samples and whilst they're nice pix and the 75mm does have some character I'm not certain if the images they produce really justify the extraordinary price of the 75mm Nocti. I generally use a Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 on my SL and love the character the images have, much of which comes from this $700 lens. I suppose it's almost impossible to really tell until one has used the lenses but unless I can rent one first I doubt very much I'd go out and just pay $12800 on spec...

beautiful cats ! as the grey one looks corious, fine pictures. I shot our cat with a 180mc2.8 medium format zeiss lens from former gda and as long as there is no back light you have wonderful sharp images and even a creamy bokeh. just for the fun, try that one (and perhaps save an amount of 11800 bucks even for a perfect one...)

It’s a nice look. But compare the M10R or M11 with the Lux 75mm vs the say a Fuji GFX50R medium format with the GF110mm f2…..that’s interesting…..I am not crazy about the out of camera Leica colour output either. That rather spoils the otherwise purer experience. Thoughts?

Matt Grainger , this would be a good video - this 12000 dollar lens vs Samyang 135mm f2 lens . The Samyang is manual focus , just under half more the focal lenth , super sharp and should be similar in blur background at f2....FOR 20 TIMES LESS THE PRICE , in fact you could buy a d850 and still have 6 grand left!

Mmmm - the sharpest lens I have is a Nikkor AI-S Micro 55mm f2.8 from the 70's got for 130 bucks on ebay in mint condition. Hard to compare on You Tube but I reckon it would give this lens a scare in a shoot off. Cost is not always a great indicator of superiority that blows everything else away.

Lens is truly remarkable, they may make another in 10yrs time or so, the lens has better glass - (partial dispersion) than the noctilux 50mm f0.95, so better separation, more bokeh. Certainly too expensive but this thing is sharp sharp sharp, I own the noctilux 50mm and can comfortably shoot at 0.95. it is a sharp lens.

But I only paid AU$1800.00 new for my 85mm f1.2L MkII & on an old 1Ds-MkIII it is still pretty sharp, and great for studio portraits. Matt which one would you spend the money on for Studio portraiture? ( I use my 70-200mm f2.8L II & 100mm f2.8L macro for outdoor natural light portraiture a lot).

btw for mf you can always buy an leica r mount lens and an adapter, they are the same as the m but for the fraction of the price - because there never was an digital r mount leica and the leica lenses produce a really unique outstanding look, much more pleasant as the technical zeiss look. it is not only the bokeh, the transition between blur and sharp is much more soft and "natural" - zeiss are more abrupt. makes a picture more popping even when not shooting wide open aperture. also the colors from leica lenses are super popping, funny the sigma art lenses colors a reminding a bit to the leica colors
