I never gelled with the ‘distance at all costs’ reputation of TM irons in this category but having watched a few reviews these P790s are not that. Have got a slot at a TM fitting day scheduled next week.

What do you mean boasts extra distance "but" it does that with stronger lofts? That is the point of these clubs. They are called Distance Players Irons. It is known that the lofts are stronger than normal. You aren't revealing some crazy secret here. If you play with game improvement irons, their lofts are even stronger. that's how this works.

@@brendanconnery7847 Well, Taylormade, in our extensive discussions about my two sets of P790s never mentioned this and by the time I figured it out for myself, I had wasted my time. They only cared about selling me clubs and not wether or not my slow swing speed would be able to launch with these low launching irons. Now they market them as high launching, which I doubt. But one thing is clear, they held back that info in order to get me to buy the clubs.

@bertraminc9412 It's clear that irons such as the P790s are too advanced for you. If you don't know about club lofts, lie angles, weights, etc... you should stick to game improvement irons and learn about the game first. Learn how All iron sets with more forgiveness also increase lofts to assist players with distance. Then you won't have to waste your and other people's time talking like you know about the game when, in fact, you are ignorant. It must be exhausting for everyone unfortunate enough to engage with you.

That’s a good point. No amount of tech can offset too low of a swing speed. What was your clubhead speed or ball speed with a 7i- assuming thats what you used?

It’s like hitting a marshmallow they’re so smooth. If you order online they have payment plans! Military discount definitely softened the blow for me but the payment plan is sweet

Interesting that they compared the P790s to the T150. The 790s are more relatable to the Titleist T200. Lofts are more equivalent, and the T200 is a hollow body design like the P790, whereas the T150 is a solid body design and slightly weaker in loft. I think the P790s are a good club, but you are missing out if you haven't tested the T200 yet!

@@ryanlocke6339 yea all the clubs bro listed are more players irons than game improvement like the p790s. Should’ve been hitting p770s or i529, t200s, mp225 for a more accurate comparison to p790s

Well, you could argue how many mid handicappers should be hitting a 3 iron instead of a driver on a lot of par 4's too :P I agree though, I am an 8 and I use a 3H as it is more versatile at my ability range.

Well we are the same age and roughly the same drive, but my current 7i was going about 165 carry. I was playing Mizuno MP18's. I tested the Mizuno 223, P790's and the P770's today and it was close between all of them, but I ended up going with the 790's because the dispersion was the best and they were the most forgiving. I had a poor angle of attack today and some inconsistent ball striking (heel-toe) and I will still producing a nearly identical result with the 790. It was close though, I was tempted to mix the bag with 770's. I am an 8 handicap for reference, but you just have to get fitted properly and trust the results.

At what point has that ever been true in history? A product that is half the price of another being on par or better than the expensive counter part. In no industry is that true. You will be sacrificing something. Whether it’s durability, quality of build (loft, lie, swing weight, glue), shaft options, consistency, etc. there will 1000% be something missing. Just like the KS wedges. Sure, will they get the job done? Yes. But you have absolutely zero customization options. Crappy shafts. Crappy grips. And the specs have been known to be off. May not seem like a lot to a 20+ handicap, but for me playing mini tour golf those are things I can’t afford.

I’m sure the Kirkland’s will be like the Takomo 101 irons, i.e., no AI designed face, no tungsten, not forged, and maybe no polymer goo inside just hollow. If these things are not important, then the Kirklands will probably be great. The Maltby T1 IM irons have it all, except AI designed face. You can order the Maltby irons from Golfworks custom shop with the shaft and grip of your choice.

@@jazzyjay4595 Good point. I'm a 15 HC and if I was playing at mini tour level or above, I would have everything custom. I did just get the KS wedges, and they are a great fit for me and my wallet. LOL

Not sure on the goo either, LOL From the info that is out there, they sound really good. Only down side is the lack of fitting options, but maybe they will find a way to give multiple shaft options and length, lie, etc. Who knows.

If it’s working why change it? 😅 srixon basically remade the same irons and they’re some of the most popular in custom fittings. Their irons really haven’t changed in 5-8 years. Callaway is literally keeping the Apex 21’s around for at least another year. If it works, it works. Minor changes to a product that already leads it’s category

So I blended Stealth long and mid irons with P790 short irons and wedges. Landed up with two irons of the same number for decent gapping!

I’d go MG4 , things are so nice , my current fave 2023 club from TM

Yes, that was with a flier lie. When you have a flier lie, spin drops a significant amount yet ball speed stays the same, basically making the ball go farther.

I tried the 3rd gen today in the shop since they don’t have a 4th gen to try, the 3 gen is already really good, 4th gen won’t be a day n night difference, I’d take a 3rd gen with a heart beat.

They aren’t really designed for his swing speed. When that starts happening, you don’t need as much help from the club. He is obviously a great ball striker. 7 iron is hot in P790s. That’s why he preaches to get fit.

Yeah I've got the 2021 P790s and through PW they're definitely hot off the face. I would love to mix a bag of 790 and 770, BUT I've found that I really REALLY love the feel of single length irons in my scoring clubs. So I play Cobra ForgedTEC single length 8-GW and then TaylorMade HiToe 56 & 60 that are longer than stock wedges, but not single length.

Why....are you chipping with the P790's.....50/54/50&60 should be wedges.....

@@MXJEFF94 I play on Links courses, sometimes the ground is so hard and firm from fairway to green, 7, 8 to PW is the best option..
