I'm surprised this review would discuss things like codec and exposure control, and not the no1 weakness in the default photo app: inability to chose which lens you want to use. You'd think this would be the main point discussed about what 3rd arty apps have to offer.
I love this review collection of these apps and I wish that your video’s timeline was time stamped for each app so we could easily switch back and forth from each review.
Thanks Michael. Re the BMC App; I think the focus and exposure points are still locked together (?). The Pro Camera App is an example of an App that has the 2 “reticules” separated.
i have black magic app when i apply luts and save video to photo library my video is saved in log format ? how can i download my video including with luts
Bro thank u so much for your production. It took me a week to research apps for my iPhone lens investment and this has been the most honest explanation 😊
Honestly that was one of the ones I tested and found to be good but nothing really stood out to me feature wise and the UI felt a bit meh but I know that part is subjective. Definitely a solid app still.
@@initialfocus I think this is one of the ones that people went to after Filmic Pro (alias FiLMiC Pro :)) went to a subscription model. I prefer the BlackMagic Camera app, and it's free. I agree the new Filmic Pro app is really good, but no way, for me at least, I'll be using that. I bought all the different variations previously so stuck with the Legacy version now. Maybe I'll give some of the other apps you discussed here a try. Thanks for doing this Michael. And thanks for all your videos really. 👍
Thanks, Michael. The BlackMagic App has a comfortable design, but there are bugs. the BMA takes over audio level when I attach the Shure MV88+ mic, ignoring the settings I've stored in the mic using the Shure Motiv app. I'm not sure I like the way the Lock function works in the BMA - it doesn't seem to let us lock certain things separately, like shutter speed. "Never wear new running shoes in a race." And, "Never use a new app when your business depends on it."
Check my update video form a couple days ago. I know some audio stuff was addressed although it makes sense that the BM app would override audio settings from another app like the Shure one. But in terms of locking exposure I show you how to do that in that update video.
Thank you. I could not resist giving it another go, simply because the interface is such a treat. Shure's support is awesome, Shure-ly they will have worked with the 15 Pro. I'll report back on what I learn.
Those data rates are basically predetermined with ProRes. If you select ProRes on filmic you’ll notice you no longer have the ability to select different bitrates because that’s what changing from LT, 422, HQ etc does.
I can’t get away from filmic pro, the zoom slider is what keeps me. I don’t like the scroll to zoom, I enjoy the a camcorder like zoom. Honestly it’s the best way to zoom and can’t see any other way. Wayyy smother
Hey! Sale has ended but the full course is only $15 more than the sale price so I may be a bit biased but I think it’s still got crazy value for the price 😅
Do you think that now with the cinematic mode api open, will we be able to shoot log + cinematic (to control the depth of field) inside blackmagic camera app? That would be a dream
Hey there, hopefully, you're still responding to reactions on older videos. I'm not sure if you have an answer to this, as you seem to be mainly a filmmaker, but I'm looking for an iPhone 15 Pro Max camera photography app that allows me to save in log (if that's even possible), but also shoot with the ability to change the aperture, like the portrait mode from the vanilla camera app. Is there even such a thing?
High ISO is the easiest culprit to large amounts of noise. But it is still a tiny sensor. Unless your like outside in bright daylight there will always be some amount of noise.
halide is one of my go to photography pro apps. As far as my knowledge goes though, it does not have any video functionality which is what I focus on in this video 🙌🏼
I was looking at this to shoot in 4:3 @ 4032x3024 making full use of the sensor, but for some reason it won't shoot prores at that resolution. Haven't found another app the does 4:3 without cropping 😢
Promovie 4k, right? It was in your scrolling of the appstore page. I like how clean the UI is but it hasn't been recently updated for newer color profiles, etc
