👉👉 Let me know in the comments if there is another WEN tool you would like to see a review of. If enough people request a review, maybe I can make it happen🤔👍👍
*This is exactly what I needed for trimming the edge of oak boards **MyBest.Tools** I also used the disk to round edges while building an oak - walnut cabinet.*
Me being a 71 year old novice at woodworking i found that the wen products are a very good way to go if your just starting out woodworking . They get the job done and for the price i don`t think you`ll find a better product in it`s price range. So i hope others find Wen to be there go to woodworking tools. Great video and breaking down the product, Thanks it help me in purchasing a spindle sander.
I recently got the "WEN 6307 Variable Speed Detailing File Sander with 1/2-by-18" Belt" (amazon). I didn't know I needed it, and now I can't live without it.
I have a WEN band saw and drill press and I have been very happy with both. They are not super high end tools but in a head to head test with my father in laws Bosch drill press the WEN out performed it hands down! I use it on steel, wood and aluminium. With good drill bits (good, not great) it cuts thru like butter.
Was it my imagination, or did your square make it look like the spindle wasn’t 90 degrees to the table? Clearly the sanding work showed it to be square. I have a WEN drill press and it works great! Reliable for the basics.
I have a WEN 13" planer and am very satisfied with its results. I used it to make cedar face frames, doors and drawer fronts in a kitchen cabinet build.
I have a Wen power washer, drill press, small 12" lathe and a belt sander. For my purposes they all perform admirably. I am sure that you can nit pick them but they work and are great value for the money.
I have a WEN belt sander and that thing is a beast! Really gives you an arm workout. My only complaint is sometimes the belt will wander. After investigation into the problem it was debris on the roller that made it wander. Cleaned it off and made sure to be aware of the issue. Very impressed with this brand for those of us just starting out who cannot afford top notch stuff. Thanks for the review. I believe I will be adding this to my wish list.
I have a Wen spindle sander that can swap the spindle shaft out to add a belt sander. It is easy to swap and does a good job. Reasonably priced and works well. I have mine mounted on a flip top cart. The only downside to this is that the spindles and rings fall off when it is inverted. I have a drawer on the cart for part storage and for sandpaper sleeves and belts. It is 2 years old and does the job, I would purchase it again.
The wen company been in business sense 1951. Seems to that I saw the tools 30 years ago and they looked cheaper then the big names. That being said, I think they have improved the tools and such in the last 20 or so years. I think Home Depot sell the brand now. Nice to see a company building quality and a decent price. We will see ? I just purchased the WEN 6510T 3.5 Amp Oscillating Spindle Sander. The end
I have several Wen tools (4x36 belt sander & 10” band saw) and they work great. Good quality & seems like they are built to last. My belt sander replaced a 20 year old craftsman and it is of noticeably better quality that the old craftsman line of tools.
Thanks Jim, I will add that one to my wish list. Just got me the belt sander but ac unit is next. Shop gets hot!! Hoping all is well with you and your family
So far I just have the WEN 3 speed remote air filter system in the garage. Love it. Definitely looking at their other products…drill press and bench top bandsaw.
Thank you for the video I've been wanting a spindle sander just haven't been able to afford one. Now i can start saving up to get this one, it sucks having to be put on disability
I got their 6.5” track saw for a bday gift. The mode selector was broken. Couldn’t tell at first. Made some cuts, put it away for a couple months. Came back and saw a tiny spring poking out. Very low expectations calling customer service. Had a human in 2 minutes, a return label in 5 minutes, and a replacement saw in two days. He apologized profusely and said if anything like this happens for up to two years, you should expect this same service. For a $95 saw, I’m floored. Not to mention it cuts like a dream with their thin nerf Teflon blades. Got the 56 and 24 tooth blades for $36 total. I’m not a pro by any means so honestly user error is much more a factor than machine precision. It’s outrageous they have such a higher build quality than harbor freight and Ryobi, and throttle both with customer service.
I enjoyed this in-depth walk-through - thank you! I am considering the WEN AT6535 Spindle Sander as the table tilts. It would be amazing if you could do a compare and contrast video of the two machines!
I have a Wen Drill Press. When I received it I grabbed the front of the unit to pull it out and somehow broke a tab on the power switch. A couple of weeks after decided to call and buy a new cover. I called the manufacturer and got to the right person, in almost no time, I asked if I could buy one. He said that I could not buy one but he would be happy to ship one free of charge. Im certain the part wasn’t very expensive. But just the way that they handle this situation moves them to the top of my buy list immediately.
I have a Wen 14in band saw and a drill press. I bought the band saw due to the price. I liked it so much I got the drill press for the name. "Remember Wen" tools were made to last? Go no further, "remember Wen".
Thank you for your review! Your video convinced me to purchase this along with the dust collection adapter. When the sand paper wears out I’m assuming I can order replacements from Amazon also. Is that correct? Thanks again! I like your review style, subscribed, and thanks again
I have the Wen Air Filtration System model 3410 works great, one of the next things I will be getting from them is the bench top variable speed drill press.
I received it on May 20th installed it have not needed to change filter yet, but I do notice when garage door is closed and I am using miter saw or table saw very much there fine saw dust floating around.
Great review, I've thought off and on about getting one of these. Used to look primarily at Harbor Freight but I'm looking now at getting something that's made really good and will last.
Outstanding review. 4 out of 5 stars for the footage though. You barely showed the actual sanding action on the tool!? Still, more than adequate to convince me that it’s worth the $. Amazon affiliate link?
I don't have any Wen tools but there's a "supposed" new in the box Wen oscillating spindle sander just like yours in our town on Marketplace for $65. That's a great deal 👍 I'm curious why they don't recommend using any paint thinner or mineral spirits to remove the coating on the top 🤔 Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me unless they're trying to keep something strong from running down and removing paint from the side or getting on the plastic base and damaging it. It has me scratching my head.
I know this is a weird question, but is there anyway to have it not go up and down and just spin instead? This tool would be perfect for my hat making but only if I could have it not go up and down. If that is not possible is there a similar type of tool that would just spin upright like this tool but not go up and down? Thanks in advance for your help.
No it does that to avoid deep scratches in the wood and use more of the sandpaper. You could use a sanding bit in your drill press for your needs! Thanks for the Q!
Whether you could, or couldn't . . you are not supposed to cut right at your line when using a bandsaw. So sanding or filing is expected when getting a part to the correct dimension.
Mine came with 3 washers though the smallest was a lock washer. Is this a new change or did they simply run out of the flat ones. No biggie just askin.
Ideally a bench disc sander would be best for rounding outside corners. however, I am pretty sure you could achieve similar results on a spindal sander as well by rotating wood against spindle.
I have this same sander. Today I was using it on some small wood parts and it suddenly quit oscillating. The drum continues to spin just fine, but it no longer moves up or down. Anyone else have this problem? This sander has had very light and seldom usage since it was new.
Place the smallest drum in, do not install plastic corresponding plate. Instead take each of the plastic plates and slightly hit one edge till appropriate finger slot is made on each. Use as directed after this has been achieved.
Thanks for a good review. My main issue with the sander is that the amount of vertical travel seems small. Can it be adjusted so that more of the sanding disc gets used?
Would be nice if I felt like it was a quality tool but if you look at them online there are several different companies selling the same exact machine but each has a different color based on the brand and I own one sold by harbor freight tools and I've had for about two or three years but have hardly used it and as of a week ago I'm seeing blue sparks flying out of it and smells like the wire insulation is melting so I stopped using it and it still looks brand new. I checked several reviews on all of the sanders that have the same look as wen, triton, grizzly, harbor freight, and I think fox and they all have the 3.5 amp moter and almost all of the bad reviews are for the motor burning up and in some cases it burned up the same day or week that it was bought. I'm thankful that many years ago I built a spindle sander and I had to pull it out of storage and trust me when I say it has many, many hours on it and still runs like a champ it just doesn't oscillate and its made from and old moter I bought at a garage sale. I want to buy another one but am having cold feet over this style of machine and varies substantially in price and I'm willing to bet that they are all made in the same place in China but the simplicity of the machine makes it fairly easy to fix if I could find a place that sells a replacement motor. Do you have any suggestions?🤔 I can't see any information on the motor itself giving any specs as to where I might track one down
