I work for a tree service in Texas. One of my personal saws is the Echo CS-590 w/20" .050" yada yada, all stock. I bought it new. It's in its 2nd year, 2nd bar, and 2nd sprocket. It's starting to come alive! I use it for a lot of dirty jobs like leveling stumps with the ground, grubbing out big roots, limbing p!ss elms full of tree p!ss and fungus and mold and rot! It has been used HARD but not abused . . .ok maybe abused. Anyways, I'm just now truly reaping the benefits of this saw, 2+yrs in of nearly every day use. I deal with high temps in summer. When it's 100+°F, and the Stihls start getting quirky, the Echo only gets stronger when its hot! It's a great companion for my Stihl 362. I've got an Echo 7310P on order and I'm thinkin about gettin an Echo CS-680! For my work, lower RPM is beneficial. I remove problem trees next to concrete slabs, concrete fence footers, picket fences, chain link fences, buildings/houses of wood/brick/rock, electrical wires/conduit, steel culverts. Lower rpm = higher torque, more control, chain stays sharper longer. I love my Timber Wolf for work, and to any homeowner, this is a great trouble free, easy starting saw for firewood, brush clearing, cutting wood for the smoker etc. Have fun 👍

The Japanese have proven their excellence in automotive engines and the four stroke motorcycle industry. I perceive that trend is also exhibited in the two stroke power saw world. People tend to line up on power saws as wanting hot rods or wanting good performing, reliable, DURABLE saws. For my money I'll take the lower RPM and lesser cut speed said of these Echos. Hot rocket saws pushing high RPM and performance outside their original design window are destined for early demise. At the end of the day, if you had to cut an extra half hour to get your load of firewood it sure is not a loss to me. Thanks for your videos, lots of great content! Oh yeah, BTW...I have a brand new cs680p arriving soon...I believe in what Echo offers, even if it ain't the baddest saw around. I have run with a stable of Jonsereds and Homelites since 1976.

@@94SexyStang I grew up running stihls. I own several Husqvarna and Stihl run my old man's and my buddies stihls. I love my echo 590. It's the most reliable starting saw in any conditions I've run them in out of the non-self tuning saws. From below 0°F to 85+°F. And while no part of it is overly impressive, it's probably the most forgiving and smoothest overall saw out of all of the saws I've ran. If I had to buy a saw for a 'single saw system' or recommend one to someone else, I wouldn't hesitate. And that doesn't even account for the tremendous price you can get one for. NOTHING within $150 of the price of an Echo 590 even comes close to equaling it.

@@bryantitus6634 I've already commented enough on this vid already, But I've got to back you up. I'm 2+yrs into my Echo CS-590, 2nd sprocket, 2nd bar, and it still is just getting better. I'm an arborist with a tree company in Texas. When the temps are 100+°F and my Stihls start getting quirky, and M-Tronics won't even run, let alone cut, . . .the Timber Wolf comes alive and only wants to eat MORE! I have put this saw through the paces from the tree tops to the root ball. Used HARD and even abused at times, and it just keeps getting better, and better. Low RPM = more torque, more control, chains stay sharp longer. This is beneficial in my line of work while cutting near man made structure. I've got an Echo 7310P on order. And I am going to get an Echo CS-680 w/27" bar for those bigger dirty jobs. The Echo CS-590 has its place, and it is well earned.

The cutter teeth need to be the same size on each side of the chain for it to cut in a straight line. As for the rakers, they just need to be slightly shorter than the cutting tooth or it won’t let the chain cut. Some people sacrifice the chains ability to keep the sawdust out of the cut for a more aggressive bite with each tooth but after 30 years of cutting I feel like that’s just not necessary and of little benefit. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! These are probably the most comprehensive videos on chainsaws I’ve been able to find on RU-vid and just a great channel for anyone interested in cutting wood. You’re the man, Tinman!

GREAT Video Tinman! My cs590 has been holding up well. I flushcut/stumped two 3 foot diameter sugar maples in 90 degree weather the last couple of days, and it ended being about two hours work because of the the old stumps dirt/rock content and sharpening the chain repeatedly. I abused the saw. But it held up great. My old work saws were all Sthil 440, and although this isn't as professional, it's a great homeowner saw. Can't wait to see what happens when ported. I've been hesitant to do that hence voiding the warranty. Thank you.

If I recall echo spec for a 590 is around 12600 max no load a CS 620 is spec at 13400. Now that's max they seem to run the best stock a few hundred rpms below the max recommended rpm. I've prepped and tuned tons of these saws. 400 bucks it a quality saw.

It's no 562, but it is less than 1/2 the cost. When a guy who is used to ported saws says he doesn't hate it - that is a pretty good compliment really. I don't use mine much. But, it always surprises me when I do. It is slower, up top especially, and a little heavier, but has torque, and can cut fine with the bar buried, even noodling. And, mine is fairly smooth too. I can't wait to see it ported, and what you do to it with the new carb and ignition. Keep up the great content!

@andrewbock1575
@andrewbock1575 3 года назад
@ Dave Wilson I'll be honest, I was slightly disappointed with it out of the box but now that I've got the hang of how to run it, it's a good saw. It cuts with rpm rather than torque, like my 590 that I was used to running before I got the 7310. Make sure to get rid of the limiter caps on the needles, as per most echos, they come slightly too lean from the factory. I'll be excited once I get the chance to port it, I've seen quite a few guys have significant gains with them. Also I dont like the stock oregon chains that come with the echos. Shhhhh 🤫 don't tell any of the sthil diehards but I run the sthil yellow chain on all my echos, it cuts really well in my experience. I have a buddy with a 462cm and while I will be fully transparent, it's a faster saw, he also paid 400 dollars more for it. In my personal opinion, as just a homeowner and chainsaw enthusiast, it's not a 50% better saw to justify a 50% high price tag. Maybe if I was a logger that run it for 8-12 hours a day I would be willing to pay for the best of the best. But as a guy who uses the saw to cut a couple cord of wood a year and for clearing trails and for tree stands, I wasn't willing to pay the extra. I think it depends on what saw you're coming from as to whether you'll be pleasantly surprised or disappointed.

I like this saw with a 24” bar preferably with a skip tooth. Runs pretty strong at low revs and muscles through bigger wood with a good amount of torque. I also have a 620 with a 27” bar and it’s definitely a stronger saw but it’s a different animal that likes to run at higher revs and it’s better for felling for that reason. The 590 is great for the price and it’s plenty of saw for most.

Great video man! My boss bought a echo cs-621sx to try out for log building and i tried it today. It is nowhere near to the performance of the husqvarna 560xp i run daily. Is there a way to get a smaller slimmer bar on those echos? We use .325 15inch for notching usually. The echo bar is too wide and the teeth too agressive. It boggs the saw down even in dry pine logs. This saw should be running a smaller bar mount. Also the echo seems to run on very low rpms.

Question when you modify a saw how long does it last before rebuilding? ive been running a Jonsered cs2252 bought new 15 ? years ago,18 " bar always bought .325 Stihl oil omatic chain's, its my only saw now for many years ive used it to pile cut ( get on pile bury saw and cut till saw runs out of gas refill repeat ) block cut from both sides trees to 30 inches and yes sell firewood, new plug here and there and a new oiler. thats it for repair, no it doesn't cut / keep up with the Jonsered 70 e 26 " bar 3/8 chain I had before it but dam !! that was an animal ! ! and heavyyyy ! when the 2252 die's its getting a proper burial out of respect, is quicker cuts worth it ? this isnt a knock to you or what your doing I hear good things about this saw but it also sounds like the saw is lacking under normal cutting loads? just curious ?

the only thing i dont like about them is they come with a 20in 70 drive link chain. when most other saws( 60cc )run a lgx.72. or equivalent.

Anyone know what types of screwdrivers I need for this saw? I can't find a "chainsaw screwdriver kit" for chainsaws that I thought they'd sell.

I'm looking to buy a new saw, trying to decide between the 450 Rancher, 271 farm boss and the Echo CS590. Which one is more recommended. Appreciate any help

Did you ever get a saw? Personally, i like the reviews for the Echo CS 590. It has a 5 yr warranty , good power, cheaper than Stihl saws with same power, and can be modified to get more power. For me i would want the Echo CS 590 for around the house, and to have extra power to cut a bigger tree if needed. Do your homework though, and find a saw that fits your needs and budget. I think everybody wants extra power in a reliable chainsaw at a affordable price, regardless of the brand of saw atleast.
