The new playstation solution to play PS2 games on PS5 arrived on PS Plus Premium and it's not very good. Support the channel: ko-fi.com/neogamer / neogamertvga
Can you imagine if their dogged insistence not not porting PS3 games means we might see -the PS2 version- of Underworld get ported to PS5 instead of the real version?
It’s not “dogged insistence” on “not porting PS3 games” it’s that it would be impossible / essentially impossible / hugely unfeasible to port PS3 games to PS5 hardware. Insane how you can be so confident in your lack of knowledge.
Its not a port bro, it's emulated version, to the ps3 comeback crystal Dynamics need to port it or Implicit Conversions need to make a PS3 emulation to Ps5, and this would be hard asf
@@luckaswolf Yes it is true that TECHNICALLY you can run PS3 games on a PS5. But it’s more complicated than that. The effort required would be massive, and whatever service they offer on PS5 is also offered on PS4. Running the games on PS4 would be a whole other mess. It’s just not feasible. Edit: additionally, some talented individuals hacking a system to see if they can get it to work is a whole different beast than a company making a product with services that are meant to have some degree of quality assurance across the board. There’s no way they could offer that with PS3 games, it’s far too complicated. People forget that Microsoft had to jump through so many hoops and workarounds to get 360 games forward-compatible . They’re not natively running on Xbox One/ Series X anyways, they’re emulated and required some serious back end work. Making PS3 games forward compatible would be even more work than that. It’s just not realistic in any way. It’s funny, in the PS4 generation people started complaining about how many games were getting re-released and remastered. The whole point of that was to make it so all games going forward would be compatible with future systems. The PS3/360 were in many ways a dead end, games needed to be entirely redone to be playable on modern systems. So many classics of the 7th gen would have been left behind on those consoles if not for the many remakes, remasters and HD collections we’ve had since.
From what I understand, this is actually in many ways a better way to play Sly 1 than the PS3 collection, as there were plenty of timing and sound effect issues plaguing that release. These play exactly as they were on PS2, just stabilized, so they're not the worst. It's cool they added the option to rewind and remap the controller. I do wish they did more to enhance the visuals, but they still look loads better than when played on native hardware on current displays. I think it's a step in the right direction compared to their previous PS2 emulation efforts, which often had shitty results (Jak and Daxter collection, looking at you). They just need to do more in regards to visual presentation. Maybe even framerate unlocks, like Microsoft did for Xbox emulation.
I played the Sly Trilogy on PS3 just fine. The worst issue (that actually was better for me) was a huge bug on the aligator boss in Sly 1 that actually I was thankful for as it made me pass the stage when I was having a hard time.
It’s a step in the right direction, although it’s too small of a “step”, cant even count as a “baby step”, at this rate , we may finally play at most 20 ps2 games on ps10 by 2050 …
Thats sad... They didn't even bother to do a simple upscale or give us the option to have them upscaled. Even my 10 year old PC can achieve that easily. And they ask 19dollars for the TR.🤣
well the hd collections were a special interest of mine scince the ps2 and all their exclusives are my favorite games ever and i came to the point where i just bought a 30$ upscaler on amazon and it works just as good as the ps5 version. i just tested it side by side. there are not so many videos about buggy hd collections exccept for sly but trust me if you google it you will see that every one has problems. ratchet 1 i played too but the soundtrack loop was weird the shopkeeper the eyes are glitching in 2 and 3 also the helmets are way to big for the heads and in ratchet 1 some cheats dont work and the air bar dont goes away.
The silver lining with this emulator, once again, will be the homebrewers cracking it open and letting the community inject different games to play instead. It does look very barebones however, even if performance looks rock solid, there is nothing here that makes it better than open-source efforts like PCSX2's Nightly Builds.
Tbh ps4 has the best ps2 emulation with the right emulation configuration jak v3 or rogue v1 along with configuration settings for the game you want to play. It will play exactly as it would on the ps2. It is honestly worth the effort of jailbreaking just for ps2 emulation imo.
I'm very foggy on this how does this work. is it just select games or can I just use a disc? if it's select games how is it different than what we already have?
Their new PS2 emulator is really disappointing. Their PS1 and PSP emulators give the classic games so great looking as it's beautiful on 4K, but this PS2 one is just 480p...
Looks pretty good. I like how the classics also include a rewind option so you can undo your mistakes. I wonder what PS2 games will they add to the PS5 next? Hopefully it will be the other two Sly games. And if those come, I won't need the Sly collection for my PS3 anymore. I can play those games in much more better quality. And of course on the new console.
First impressions are not great, considering we legit had a really good Upscaled / Widescreen port of Sly 1 on PS3, Tomb Raider: Legend on Steam / GoG (even though the “best” version is 360, but that’s nitpicking) & the only console “exclusive” is Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but that game actually looks good. Though that’s not saying much, since it was never ported before; so it gets a free pass. It has extra features like rewind & visual filters, but it’s no better than what the PS2 emulator was doing for PS3. It’s not bad, just majorly disappointing. At the VERY least, they can go back & fix up the older PS2 games for PS5 playback like Ape Escape 2 or Primal using this emulator, so they would become playable without glitches. Hopefully they’ll update the visual options like they have for the PS1 games someday.
bro every single ps3 hd collection is full of bugs. the sly and silent hill collection the most. the only good ones are the ones bluepoint made and jak
@@Snaaake_Beater Fair, though I personally never encountered bugs. As far as I remember, it’s been a long time. Except the Ratchet & Clank trilogy, the only bug I noticed was the Shopkeeper glitching to look weird & distorted. All I’m saying is that I beat the game on PS3 & it looked better, I just wished it would have matched that visually for this port & it would have been great as it would both fix the bugs & made it easier for me to point to & say “That’s the version to go for.”
@@Snaaake_Beater Totally! That game was BRUTAL to beat, not to mention the stupid Precursor Orbs being locked in the missions you can’t replay to unlock the bonuses xP
Everyone has to accept that Sony has never made a decent emulator. Even for the PS Classic mini they decided to ruin it. It will only serve to avoid wasting deluxe subscribers and please a small portion of trophy hunters.
Yea they don't care for classic games as much which is sad but at least my phone fills my ps2 needs with an emulator that looks and runs miles better than any emulator by sony
@@WllKiedSnake I meant the ps2 version of the game and not the emulation itself. On other platforms like the original xbox and gamecube the game looks and run better but hey i guess is better than nothing.
These PS2 games are running terrible on PS5. It's not even 720p or 1080p. So weird how a multimillionaire company can't make such thing. The price is even worse.
@@JCOdrjones Well, my phone can run better and I'm playing on Oled 60 4k tv, it doesn't look good for a PS2 game on PS5. My PC can run at 1440p or more and looks great on this TV. The worst part is they're charging $20 for such a poor job.
@@shrekrealista5045 do the games showcase have any technical faults? Glitches? Accuracy issues? Slowdown? Stuttering? Etc? Stuff that has been constantly hindering emulation for eons from the start to now? If all you have to say is that "well it's not 4k, so it runs terribly" then you're not really saying Jack shit
They look really meh , I’m playing them right now , they run 480p on ps5 , no visual enhancement or upscaling whatsoever, they are priced from 10€ to 26€ from where I live , this is very disappointing. At this rate , we may finally be able to play at most 20 ps2 games on ps10 by 2050 with native 1080p ~~
Lol ot is not youtube it is the bad emulator itself as you can watch many youtube videos with ps2 emulator that are on phone or pc and they look and play miles better
The PS1 and PSP emulators weren't perfect on release either, hell, NTSC regions got some PAL games even as far as I remember, not satisfied? vote with your wallet and wait until they eventually get updated and improved
Thiers seems to be an enhancement option in the menu but it doesn't do anything. I'm guessing it's a bug, no way Sony actually thinks this is acceptable.
@newjackgaming88 My opinion has somewhat changed after spending some time with it. I guess having trophie support, rewind, save states, screen filters, and button configuration per game makes it worth it. At least the games run well, without any of the graphical glitches we see in PCSX2. I don't think it runs at 480p. The ps2 version looks much more blurrier, but definitely not as sharp as the ones that first released on PS4.
