In this video I share how I create my time lapse video clips. First I shoot a simple static shot of sunrise and then later on I share how I set up advanced 3 axis equipment to create motion in the shots. Thanks to Sony Alpha for loaning me the a7siii to try out and film this video with. As well as the A7RIV to use for timelapse. The video is not paid for or sponsored.

Thanks for sharing some of the setup portions. I have gone through your entire tutorial and enjoyed it, I put it to use each time out. I really liked the Sony built-in intervalometer, I found it to be easy to setup and very accurate, especially for scenes with no motion control.

I was just through that same area back in June. For me the best part of that kind of terrain is the amount of interesting features you can capture in a single shot. If I go to a beautiful forested hillside, most of my view is going to be obscured by trees and foliage. Which can be nice in it's own way, but it doesn't compare to the breadth of the vistas the moab desert gives you access to.

Just catching up on your videos, I like them a lot. Talking about the timelapse shooting, come to AZ at the end of the Summer and timelapse the sand storms. Make sure your tripod is anchored down good and have "rain coats" to cover the camera and tripod head. Also have a clear filter on the lens to protect the mail lens. You don't want that fine dust in your setup.

Great images of a beautiful place. I've stood where you were and shot Factory Butte with 4x5 large format film, and the shapes and colors of the desert landscape are so fascinating. I also shoot digital, and want to try my hand at shooting some timelapses. I have a Nikon D600 that looks like it has an intervalometer. Do you recommend shooting in JPEG when getting started? I watched your video about exporting to PS, which seems pretty straightforward. Tell me, do you edit these images, or just take what you get? If you do edit, do you edit in PS or LR. If you have a previous video that covers these types of questions, please reference it and I am happy to dig in on my own. Thank you for your stimulating images and techniques.

Hey Michael, nice video as usual. I've done some sporadic timelapses earlier but now started to shoot TLs for a "portrait" of my city. Couple of questions though...What is the downsides of using built in intervalometer opposed to an external? And what is your take on adding a bit of movement in post? Or is it better maintaining image quality and resolution? Of course maybe no problem if you have 8k res. 😄

@stevematadobra6117

Wow....where do I begin with all the questions. I want to learn how to do this! I have D850 - so I assume the camera is able. Can I process the images in lightroom or do I need to process in Photoshop? Do you keep it on auto focus (for the landscape static shots)? When you do timelapse with HDR scenes, are you exposing for the highlights? My apologies for the questions. Amazing stuff. I need to learn this.
