After making my first every Crochet Sun Hat I noticed it was floppier than I would like. But what to do? I decided this was the perfect opportunity to test out this Fabric Stiffener Spray to see if it would do the trick. Join me in this experiment and find out!

Hi Tiffany: I’ve seen people use millinery wire, but the stiffening spray is great! Can we expect the tutorial for this hat soon?

Great question. Unfortunately because this hat pattern is not mine I cannot do a tutorial for it but I was able to do a Crochet Along for this hat in my Crochet Club. You can also use water with some rice starch in it, I always do it and it works

You like it very stiff? Can you use this on corduroy? Does it change the color at all? How long is the stiffness retained?

Great questions! I didn't want the brim to be very stiff. Just stiff enough to hold some structure so it would stay out of my eyes. I'm not sure how this spray would work on Corduroy. I haven't tried it and corduroy is a thicker material. You can absolutely try it out. The spray did not change the color of my hat but to be safe, test a spot. The Stiffness should stay until it is washed. Then you might need to reset it with the spray. But to be safe, test it to see if it does what you like. For thicker fabrics I've heard starch works great to stiffen. 😊❤️🧶

Actually no. I didn’t see any changes to the look of the fabric. But just to be safe I made sure to spray on the bottom

Hi Tiffany. I was wondering… if the hat is washed, do I need to respray?

That is a great question! I just read the back of the bottle and it says "After washing, fabric will return to original state. Heavier applications may require repeat washes. Machine wash and dry on the Delicate (low heat) setting." I hope this helps. 😊🧶❤️

Hi Tiffany, I think you 8/10” are a lot shorter than mine 😂😂 maybe you could get a clean plant pot to put the hat in while you spray. Great though x

Even though I made a small size, the hat is too big on me. The brim is stiff for me though. Oh well, a few of my daughters family members voted that it does not look good on me. They all say it makes me look older. 😅😅😅
