Every year the Japanese Beatles swarm the yard and garden eating raspberries and flowers. This year I am trying two Japanese Beetle traps.
I have the Spectracide Bag-A-Bug:
amzn.to/3eKpigM
And the Bonide Beetle Bagger:
www.amazon.com/Bonide-Chemical-Japanese-Beetle-Trap/dp/B000HCNSZA
Both traps work but the Bonide seems to really catch those pests the best.

I love the Spectracide trap! When the bag gets full we pop it in the freezer until all of the beetles are too cold to fly away then dump the bag in our chicken run, and the chickens go wild!!!

Pro tip: You can also put a pale of soapy water right under the trap and it will catch all the ones that fall off the outside of the trap.

Good stuff. This is the first year I’ve hand such an infestation , and within days a week at the most 25% of my garden was being eaten away. They were on everything, especially younger trees and plants. Including wisteria, nectarine and peach trees, and nearly everything except the Hydragena which they normally love. My lawn looks yellow and I’m convinced it’s all related. I put mine together in the house walked out the the garden and they were all over me immediately. So thanks for this. I took this infestation very personally!

These male Japanese beetle traps remind me of the parties I used to attend in my teens & 20s. You show up, hoping to see a bunch of single, unattached "females", and instead, you arrive at a damn "sausage festival."

🤔 one thing that's overlooked... beside ornamental and plants, it's the yard itself. There are MANY MANY MANY more under ground then above!!!! Grass dying in patches that just keep getting bigger and bigger or the whole yard is just brown is the result of the Japanese beetle grub,, they are eating away at roots!! All plant roots, And watering the yard to keep the grass and plants growing is just helping these grubs to survive. They spend most of there life underground then above. Years ago I had enough and I soaked my yard with herbicides at night the next evening there were hundreds of thousands of grubs that came to the surface and died, no Exaggeration!, .and the stink as they decade wasn't pleasant!! But no need to do this if your willing to keep alot of bags out every year for several year till the life cycle of the Japanese Beatles is broken, then a few bags will do every year.. In other words you have to get to the root of the problem.....one Beatle = MANY grubs offsprings.. and they eat and live much more under ground then above....oh,, and yes you will attract the Beatles from your surroundings, ie neighbors who don't give a sh!t, or that are clueless.. but it has worked and still working for me. In the beginning I was filling up bags daily, it finally tapered off after the first year. But now after a few years I might get a half bag of only two bags I put out.. it's the price you have to pay. But it's not really all that expensive...and kinda fun to be killing these invasive BASTARDS of a pest...

Your buddy Josh at Stoney Ridge says the key is to be downwind. Main reason your trap on the stake is working. Not sure it has much to do with sun or placing on tree. He places his trap on tree branch Spectracide but makes sure the trap is downwind. He posted a video in June 2020.

beetle traps attract beetles from up to 5 miles away. You are doing nothing but bringing more in.

that would help people around you in a 5 mile radius which is not doing nothing but benefitting everyone and reducing the local population for everyone and will eventually eliminate them all locally if you persist.
