Love my TMHI, Spectrum is horrendous here in my area. I'm almost 10 months in with Magenta, I keep a small fan on my T-Mobile router as an extra safeguard keeping it cool as I've heard of some overheating issues. Here at our home, we receive an. Excellent signal, where not a gaming household, however am state certified as a foster parent & completely furnishing our internet demands as a family of 4.
Spectrum is horrible. Even worse is their customer service. They themselves cannot seem to figure out which Spectrum company to deal with. They say they’re “trying” to integrate their two companies with the same name but one is cable and the other is phone. However, they’ve made zero progress in the last two years. No wonder their service is so expensive.
The reason the speeds were slower on the outside test is because when you move the router to a new location, it slows your speeds down while it figures out which tower to broadcast to, what antennas to send signals out of, etc. If you were to wait like 30 minutes to and hour, it would go at full speed again.
I would think it also has to do with the wireless band as well. If you go to Advanced Settings, it tells you what band you’re connect to, for example n41, etc.
You were connected to n41 and outside you connected to n71 which is lower capacity by miles my advice buy outdoor cpe like yeacomm nr610 and force the n41 or n78 or n25 or any high capacity bands
Which level of Spectrum internet service do you have? I have Spectrum Ultra and consistently get 600MB download and 25MB upload. You should be able to get faster upload speeds with your Spectrum. Also, Frontier just installed fiber optic on our street, which they claim will provide 5GB download AND 5G upload. We'll see.
We recently switched to Spectrum’s lowest tier to save a few bucks. The service is 300 to 360 Mbits upload and 10 Mbits download. No fiber hear, yet, and if the cost is reasonably, it maybe an option. But as this is considered another line by T-Mobile, the cost for this wireless internet is $40 a month. As that’s $40 to $45 less expensive than the current Spectrum service, I’d rather save the money.
Thanks. I, too, am dabbling in the smart home devices area. My favorite so far is Wyze with several cameras, the watch, scale, and the plugs/outlets I can automate. Might be a topic for a future episode.
for my area tMHI was great until last friday when it went into the toilet and stayed there. the gateway would get an error and no matter how many replacements i got it would have the same exact error when powering it on. i've also noticed that it looks like the data speeds on my phone seems to of went from 400mbps to 60mbps. whatever t-mobile did, it's affecting all in my area in a negative way.
Hi, Keancv! I did try the router upstairs near a window and the results were about the same. I moved the router since I did the video and it's near the window in the TV room. While the download speeds didn't change, the upload did get a bit faster.
@@heywhatisnext there is a new gateway type from T-Mobile that has connections for an external antenna. I think you would benefit from that. The tower is at the corner of your house, so, even if you have a window near the corner, you can’t point at the tower directly. If you get, the other router, plus an antenna, you can put the antenna outside and point it directly at the tower. It will make a big difference. The external antennas sell for $99 for a 2 x 2 and $199 for a 4 x 4. That refers to the number of connections and not size. The problem is those new gateways are not always easy to get a hold of. You can talk to technical support, but they are not allowed to send you any specific kind of gateway. You get what comes up when the order is placed. They’re able to tell you before they actually send it, but they are not able to change the gateway that comes up. You can try your local T-Mobile store to see if they have one and trade in your old one to them. The problem is they’re just coming out and are not university available. It should be better in a couple months.
When Tmobile Home Internet first came it out it was advertised as 1 Gig service. And it still is, however Tmobile is capping users speeds now. The first 6 months of my service I would get 600-800 mbps down and 50 mbps up. A year and a half later Tmobile has me capped to 120 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. These companies still do the bait and switch game. It's bullshit.
I wanna cut ties with the cable companies. Their toooo expensive. I'm soon retiring and won't be able to afford cable. So I need to learn alternative ways of still being able to enjoy tv.
Hi, Mary, and thanks for watching. This is definitely one way to save money. We are starting week three with this device, and so far so good. Don’t forget about over-the-air television, which is a great alternative. I get about 25 channels from my rabbit-ear antenna.
@heywhatisnext Your welcome and thank you. I've spent the last 2 weekends talking with antenna installers trying to go that route. To no avail. I'm to far from major areas, and to many trees to pick up signals. So that's why I decided to see how to buy my own equipment.
