after watching your video on the smart tool about a month ago i went and bought it. with 37 years in the trade this is the most useful,convenient, and time saving addition to my tool bag. as for quality it appears to be at the top of the wireless market. I have the imanifold and the smans . the smans now hang on my garage wall. they are well built. I keep them in my protec mc bag and do not worry about them getting damaged or allowing them to get wet during a call. now if they would give saturation temps on the screen they would be perfect. thanks for the videos.

Testo smart probes are not cheap!!! They have 2 transducers, 2 thermistors and 4 bluetooth transmitters and 4 enclosures. This costs about $5, if that. Sporlan smart tool and iManifold/iConnect are waaaayyyyyyy overpriced!!!

+FIX IT HVAC This is just my opinion, but the manufacturers and distributors are taking the repair side of the industry to the cleaners. Maybe that is why Talyn875 went back to the basics. Something is wrong.

The Testo smart probes are a quality product. They do not feel cheap at all. Who gives a crap if they're made in China? If a company can find a way to make a quality tool and sell it at a low price, that's a win for me. I've never seen the Sporlan tool in person so I cannot speak for it. I don't doubt it's a great tool. I strongly considered buying one. The only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was the price. When I heard about the Testo, I jumped all over it. The price was right and I know Testo makes quality equipment. Buying stuff that is made in America is great, but sometimes it's not the most economical option. In the world we live in it's just the way it is.

if there was a small led screen on each pressure probe, a ball valve and a shraetor tee for charging, I'd be interested in them. I just can't see my screen on my smart phone on a bright sunny day on a roof.

Good Job Ralph. I sell RUDD/ RHEEM and love my Testo's and for $200 its a great price point. If I boycotted all Chinese or foreign made products than I wouldn't be able to do my job. I do try to buy ICM and AMRAD and service parts but as you know they are few and far between. If we want to take charge about stuff being made in foreign countries than we need to start by kicking out the freaking lawmakers.

If the Testo smart probes were 599.00 would this video even have been made? I bought the Testo 550 when they first came out and then had to warranty them twice for new sets.... My third set lasted but then my one temps true clamp starting to go out. I am not a huge fan of Testo but I may try them. More competition to the market the better as it will drop the price. I dream of having a I manifold and a sporran smart tool, however the price I can not afford, and for that price they need to give a 5 year warranty in my opinion. I personally try to buy American when I can but a lot of times I can't because there are good products that come out of China and the price is much more affordable. I have a veto mc and I believe that one is made in China now as well? Blame the government as they are blind and shoo away business here in the USA. We don't make electronics here not because are people are not smart enough , it's because we price are selfs out of everything. This country is so messed up that makes it extreamly hard on American company's .

I have the testo 557 and love it. it's a great manifold. your 550 sets did not become less great because they're chimanease, maybe less desirable but you deep down you can still count on those gauges. every economy and country has their own quality tiers. China has some high quality stuff, and USA does too. and they both have crap. I buy quality, unfortunately it's not always USA. good video!

Who gives a shit why the testo is so cheap! Call them up and "you offer to pay more, but we techs love a discount as long as it is a quality tool. The fact you spent $1600 on an over priced "rock" is your foolishness and some poor sap customer must have footed the bill.

Saw the Smart probes on sale for under $200 ($171 plus taxes and S+H) still can't beat it for the price....Not much competition out there so it might bring the price of the others down and make it more affordable for the average working guy....Testo makes a great product and stand behind their product....

I agree Ralph with what your saying, Remember when Fasco made all the inducer motors and rescue motors.The inducer motors would last about 11 to 13 years. I think Fasco is still in business, I'm going to check on that today . But the furnace manufacturers all use Chinese CRAP now. No quality or pride in manufacturing . We have become a disposable nation.I'm embarrassed when I have to tell my customer they need a new inducer on a furnace that's less than 5 years old. Who cares if it's under waurantee!

This is the unintended consequence of American ppl electing leaders that do not know how economy's work. When you tax and regulate a country to death, and take in goods from countries that do not, you end up with "trade deficits" but as long as our gov continues to devalue my currency, I'll buy from China or wherever to save money. You can't say you only buy American cause even the cars your drive are not made In America, only parts of them are. I bought the smart probe cause they were cheap and they do work for what I need. The end.
@markbeiser

Testo also had a greatly reduced development cost for the Smart Probe system. All of the probes they are using already existed in their tool range, so it was mostly just a matter of adding the Bluetooth radio.

Damn it, I love your videos don't get the wrong idea. I had a message this morning telling me you have as did a new video. Of course I had to watch it but I was in a hurry. It took 3 mins for you to get to where it was made. Let me know if you want to sell those 550s. I've only been in business a little over a year and I don't have it like that where I can spend $800 more for a tool just so it's made in America. Of course I would like to have all American tools but like you said, the 550 work great. P.S. Keep up the good work, but try to get to the point a little faster next time. lol.

Ralph, You cant escape "chinese" if you try. They are the toys your kids play with, they are the Blinds at your window, the seat in your truck...Everywhere...If the tool Works,it is cost effective and it helps your profit margin then you have to buy it. Until These American companies start churning out stuff in huge quantities , sell for lees but sell more, the Chinese are gonna stay winning and i support buying local but its all about the bottom line bro. As Oldman_Fingers says down below. Its a world market.

I always like your videos T&N Services LLC, but this is just stupid. The parts are made in China. Yes they are but who designs the concept and who determines what are the probes made of. I believe is the Germans. The only reason why they are send over seas is because material to make them and labor is cheaper. So the product can be more affordable to a lot more people. I sure don't have 600 or 1500 to spend on some gauges. If you take exact same product and make it in dermal two or three times the price. Think before you say something or call the source.

I agree with what your saying Ralph but the thing about Carrier was its moving from the US to Mexico. Testo was never here in the first place. I don't like that it's made in China I really don't. But there tools are good. What Combustion Analyzer is everyone using or want? The Testo 320 because it's awesome. A while back everyone was saying the Testo 550 was the HVAC workhorse. I wish I could buy only American made everything but with a wife and 3 kids I buy the best for what I can afford. I bought the IManifold and loved it I mean loved it but when that credit card bill came in i almost shit myself and had to make the hard decision to sell it. I gave 6 years of my life to this country in the USMC and love this country. Whenever possible/financially possible to buy American made o do but I don't wanna have to feel bad or judged because I buy non American made products when I have too. I get what I can for what I can to do the best job for the customer that I can.. Good video Ralph

Ralph, some Honda's are made in Japan, some in the USA and some in Mexico. The quality is the same for all Honda's regardless of where they are made. Why? Because the manufacturer determines the quality of materials and assembly, not the flag that is flying over the assembly plant.

I don't understand why it makes a difference to you whether it would be made in Germany for that tool it's still out of this country or in China just like carrier is going to move their stuff to Mexico. The only way I think that is fair to buy something that's out of this country is if we can't buy it locally I just strongly believe in trying to support companies that are in our local United States area first then if and then we can't get it then looking outside the country because if we don't support the jobs that are here and home they're not going to be able to afford to buy the heating and air-conditioning systems that you sell

For what it's worth, we use testo and over many visits to the same customers, our testo tools are extremely accurate and system btu's are consistent even from different techs, using different testo's. They are reliable, and take abuse despite their light weight. They're cheap I thought, because of their down sides. Limited range, and the testo app gets the award for being worst in the world IMHO. Testo promises a new app update every two weeks but it never happens. With testo probes, gone are the days crawling back and forth from supply to return plenum taking measurements to calculate enthalpy and btu's manually. I almost forgot- they are very accurate in AC mode but the btu calculations are waaaay off in heat mode when compared to doing the math on paper. I called them but they never have an answer and the follow up call never came. I'm not sure why people hate Chinese products since they make high end stuff like iphones, ipads, ipods, etc and quality is very good. The wages a tech makes are lousy in many parts of the country so it's hard to justify spending on an i-manifold to use on the job making 15 bucks an hour. If customers would pay more for service then techs would be able to get better tools again, IMHO. Thanks for posting your video!

I bought a pair of diamond gusset jeans made in USA 128.00$ I wear them on the weekends. I work in dickies 22$ made in Honduras. My iPhone 600$ made in China top of the line. I'm still going to sell Bryant, I bought a Nissan because it was assembled in Tennessee, and I totally spent 118$ on one smart probe one temp probe and there made really good. I still buy Klein nut drivers but cheaped out on some screw drivers, I'm all over the map, oh I also own a victory motorcycle because it's was made in Iowa cost less than Harley. We make choices on products some made here some not. Price and function play huge part in every purchase then comes where is it made.

Or if there are industries where you live that would affect your bottom dollar if those people lost their jobs because those people have to have heating and air-conditioning just want to a lot of other things housings roofs plumbers etc. so my concern is if we move all of the good jobs out of the US there won't be any jobs here to support the economy that we have. I'm not saying I would never buy out of the US that would be a wrong statement because I would if I could not buy it here in the US. Hopefully it would be manufactured here realizing that a lot of things are not anymore they are just assemble. I'm sorry if I'm offending you. I'm just a full-blooded American man and I love the country that I live in. And I wouldn't trade it for anywhere else.

iConnect and iManifold, hell Imperial is the apple of HVAC, overpriced and no better in quality. And nobody bought enough Moto X phones from 2013 to keep the american factory where they were assembled open. But it doesn't matter - if they made them in America it's only because it will be built by machines which is cheaper and no need to ship across the world. Testo can do everything and more than the iconnect without the ridiculous price. They aren't 2-3x better. That's just them price gouging you - labor is not that big of a cost difference.

Your IPhone was made in China factories where the labor lives in " company highrise housing". They had to install nets to prevent suicides by the workers. Nevertheless, the design and programming of IPhones is in the USA. The Lenovo PCs that are widespread in Retail and Medical are Chinese, but used to be IBM. Wait until the Chinese cars start showing up here for a new wake up call that may upend Japanese and US car manufacturers.

@rj.parker
@rj.parker 8 лет назад
+FIX IT HVAC I know Buick has factories in China to sell to that market and they are popular as are German cars. You don't see Japanese cars over there much even though they are close by. China also makes much lower cost Chinese cars with their own designs that currently sell for about $5k US over there. The cars have the potential to shake up the US market. For those old enough to remember the first Japanese Toyotas and Hondas in the Sixties, the quality was not there at first but they managed a foothold with low price. Now Toyota makes Camrys and Tundras here while Honda makes Accords in the US. It's hard to say HVAC manufacturers could not do well with US factories. A big part of it is upper management style and quality control these days.

But Goodman is owned by the Japanese, Carrier is moving off to mexico, and I live just down the road from the Colleirville plant they are shutting down, I know many people that work there! Carrier did the exact same thing when they bought Heil and Tempstar from ICP. Shut them down!! I Was a coleman dealer, carrier dealer, Goodman dealer, and Trane, Now I am just going to push Trane! Go ahead and throw out that iPhone you have.. Let me know what kind of phone you find that is made in America. ( hint: none ) I’m not trying to be an ass but you showed your ignorance beautifully with the world in this 8:22 video. There are some very smart economists with videos right here on RU-vid that you should watch. It’ll give you a proper appreciation for what China does. It’s the Asian hub where all other Asian countries can ship raw materials or products. Then the Chinese make all the parts for all the things we rely on so heavily in this country. Yes, the Chinese make some straight bs, with very little quality control. They also make things like your IPhone with unbelievable quality control. It’s estimated that the iPhone would cost around $10k each if it was manufactured solely in the USA. When you chunk your iPhone, go ahead and throw away every other piece of electronic equipment you own. There are circuits and transistors, resistors, diodes and a whole array of Chinese manufactured parts inside. Garage door opener, electronic deadbolts, remotes, your electronic HVAC equipment.. all has to go. Maybe it was assembled in Germany or the US, doesn’t matter. It’s highly likely to contain Chinese parts. Our Fighter jets and helicopters used in our Armed Forces are known to have some Chinese manufactured counterfeit parts in them. Don’t believe me, google it. But, guess what? They work. Seriously, start w your computer so you don’t make ridiculous videos. But really, I’m not pro Chinese by any means, but I do realize our lives would be much different if China didn’t provide the invaluable services they do. Give a little respect where it’s do, but watch those mfers real close... because they aren’t our friend. But we do share a somewhat symbiotic relationship with them.

As other commenters have said Chinese products are everywhere wether it's in the automotive industry ,the HVAC industry ,electronics industry, etc. etc. etc. you do have to make a choice as to whether or not you want to purchase them. But to say that you couldn't figure out why they were so cheap for at least the first four or five minutes of your video ,places you in a less than desirable light.But on the other hand this may be your type of humor.
