Ereder no it won’t. You can’t force a drive system (either electric or gas) over the maximum RPM by forcing it to move faster. All you will do is destroy it eventually. And it still won’t move faster.
In the 50s my dad had a few cars, one got loose and beelineed right at an unfortunate stray dog. The wire arm cleanly sliced off one of its paws, My dad folded up quickly and took the dog to a Vet. We adopted him and he lived about another ten years. His name was lucky as, on two counts, 1. Lucky he didn't get killed and 2. Lucky he had a family now with 4 boys who loved the heck out of him. He still ran faster than any of us. The fence is a good idea
I don't understand this type of hobby but the machines are so neatly tailored that it brings me to a strong desire to express my deepest respect to all the modellers in that very field of hobby! It is so damn impressive and interesting!))) This cars are a brilliant piece of machinery, a real hand made wonder! Thanks for sharing! Good luck in such amazing hobby!
I have an antique tether car that my great uncle built just after WWII and raced in a park in Oak Cliff (Dallas). The car originally had a spark ignition engine and a shutoff switch actuated by a wire extended from the top of the car. If the run was not up to snuff, the owner could hold a rag above the track and trip the switch to shut down the car. It was later converted to glow plug ignition, which meant that there was no shutting it off until the fuel ran out. I was a preschooler at the time, but I remember watching the races and savoring the smell of burning castor oil. The race club disbanded after somebody who was probably unhappy with the noise broke up the expensive concrete track.
It's got to be on youtube SOMEWHERE. If not today, check back tomorrow. Yeah, here's an older posting: Tethered Car "Girl Power" - On board footage at Great Carlton Raceway - May 2012 I'll bet there are more.
I remember my dad having an airplane on a tether with a gas powered motor when I was a little kid in the 70's, probably before R/C was mass marketed. But I had no idea that tether cars even existed. Looks pretty fun
Jatmundar true... I just can't help but think, with as many years as this has been going on that someone hasn't fallen and some serious shit went down lol
+Jason Borne I see what you are saying, haha! Murphy's Law is a real thing and people are always finding different and interesting ways of injuring or killing themselves. Maybe there is a story about someone getting injured while doing this in an old paper somewhere?
That's crazy fast!!! I remember the model airplanes we flew before R.C. days. Nice leisurely flying planes in many scale sizes. Then came radio control. That's when things got interesting. Planes out of range and some in range skidding the rooftops of nearby residents. The flyers occasionally lost a plane to an irate home owner.
Exactly what I'm wondering; how many g's are these things experiencing, is there much (any?) tension on that tether cord? Those wheels and axles must be pretty stout! (Let's see, 20mm or so radius wheel spinning along the ground at 270 kph.....) (Must be unobtainium!) Also, pretty damn fine precision job of getting that track perfectly smooth and circular! I can (kind of) imagine what the SLIGHTEST ripple would do to one of those test runs (don't think the chain link fence would stop the shrapnel!)
@@charlesshreeve319 . Well, formula 1 drivers when turning at 300 kph+ experience up to 5 g. I can't really do the math for this specific case, though.
I was introduced to this sport as a kid, we never had any formal racing or circuits in South Africa but strangely there were cars on the second hand markets and I got my hands on a gorgeous bluebird that we set up to run on a concrete slab near a mall, was less organized and successful than this but still a bunch of fun.
I never sewn these before. after the first one got going it sounded like an alarm sounding. these are amazing . I want one to ride in!!!! crazy, what's next.
Great video, but one question: How do the vehicles accelerate? Will a carburetor slider (possibly be used automatically) be operated or revving without throttle suction? Thanks in advance :)
Theres no gearbox in it, these cars start at max gear, the guy in the middle helps it to get to semi optimal speed after which fine tuning of everything involved does the trick
For the really insane motorsports Europe is the place. Tractor pullers powered by tugboat engines, hill climbers in Iceland that drive across water, rally driving on ice, and this.
I think the entertainment value would be even greater if the guy at the center would be required to hold the tether line, sort of like someone flying a control line aircraft
Had no idea this had been going on for so long and reached so far. Here's a video from the UK 1967, they called it cable racing ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vkjnpgMjUac.html
The models are equipped with two-stroke engines in displacement sizes of 1.5 cm³, 2.5 cm³, 3.5 cm³, 5 cm³ and 10 cm³. The engines are operated with a mixture of 80% methanol and 20% castor oil and are capable of producing engine speeds up to 45,000 revolutions per minute.
As compared to the 5 and 10 cc world records? I race nitro boats and own a former world champion from '86.So what? Lots of people ask questions but I'd never insult them by calling them stupid as it does nothing to improve the sport or their interest. Your records mean something only to you as you were to stupid to add other record info. Bravo for your ego.
Speed of the car is wonderful, however they should change it it a jump rope competition. After every heat the operator moves 2 foot closer to the center. Last to get tied up wins.
Remember from my schoolboy days hobby, if that car maded right and adjusted well, after 200 km speed, that increases speed only by right made muffler as a rocket engine, not by wheels
