I enjoy your videos, been watching some of them as I’m new to saddle hunting. Love seeing different size guys in this video. I’ve looked into it for over a year now but because I’m a bigger guy I hesitated. After sitting in the trophyline at the outdoor show last week I pulled the trigger and bought one. Wish I’d looked around a little first as I’m really interested in this phantom. Just wish there was a way for guys to put hands on more saddles to make the decision.

One thing on hunting bigger diameter trees. Thats where a ring of steps really shine. I actually run a hybrid platform/ROS setup. I use a mini platform on my top stick with 3 squirrel steps on an OCB buckle. I have 2 steps on the side of the tree like stirrups and one on the backside of the tree. Gives me the ultimate in options for comfort as well as being able to walk around the backside of the tree.

Thank you for the videos. Never saddle hunting before. Going to give it a try. Not a young guy anymore, was worried about the comfort, but seems like its comfortable.

I too was worried about comfort in the long run, but I can say that saddles are equal to if not more so than treestands. Of course that's at half the weight at least and easily a 1/4 of the bulk.

I have one and I have found that the prusik does, in fact, bite down hard and secure. The problem is that it is very difficult to adjust, even when working ("breaking" the knot). Because I climb SRT, my full body weight crimps down the prusik. BUT, I need my bridge as short as possible for SRT climbing. The problem is that when I get to hunting height and I want to lengthen the bridge, it requires a two handed struggle to work the knot free enough to slide. The result is that I am in a tree, 20 feet above ground and, although I am tethered to the tree, I need to release tension from my securing line and take both hands to work the knot. Not a pleasant situation. That prusik is a bear to work loose even with no tension on it at all.

@@bimmerboy7 I have added a short bridge which I used to climb because I use SRT climbing method. That leaves me free to keep the manufacturer's bridge long and then I hook up. I tend to keep the bridge pretty long and adjust the tether height

Great review. I'm a lot like your friend Steve, currently weighing 275. I really want to move away from my climber to a saddle but have been a little weary due to my size. I appreciate getting his input on the comfort for us larger hunters. Have you tried the Mantis? I wonder how the Phantom compares to the Mantis in terms of comfort and security. Thank you,

I much prefer the size and the packability of the original Predator. Nothing wrong with the XL, but the Predator original just can't be beat in my opinion.

I'd have more luck breaking into Ft. Knox than convincing my wife to take a shot at a whitetail. Haha! But if she's ever up for it you know she'll be in a saddle video!
