I think he had huge singing talent but honestly MJ had the drive, the song writing ability, the contacts and business sense to create the empire he had. Same with Prince and James Brown.
Yeah, he did get arrested but one could argue that he wouldn’t have been doing what he was doing if society wasn’t so hard on gay men (especially Black gay men).
The songs back in the day had lyrics you could sing to or at least try😀. Go to a Frankie Beverly and Maze concert. You can't even hear him because EVERYONE else is singing right with him. Word for word😂😂 A beautiful thing.
I love how his voice has aged. When he originally sang it his voice was so youthful. Now you can tell he done went in the world and "lived". Still amazing.
when I tell you every black person knows this song 😭 oh my goodness thanks for the likes 💗, & and I love all the different cultures comment on this to tysm!!
Just left UniverSoul Circus tonight (07/15/21) in the DMV (Nat'l Harbor, DC) and this was the premiere Black folk "sing-along" song for the circus event tonight. No exaggeration.. this song came on over the loud speakers. The place completely erupted. And every single person (in a Big tent completely full..many hundreds, if not thousands) sang this song word for word, for word, for word...until the Circus ringmasters had to cut it off. And the people STILL kept singing this song without the music. It truly was something special to behold. Anyone who doubts that every black person knows this song should have been there tonight. #FACTS
Tevin Campbell's career mismanagement has been criminal. He is a transcendent vocal talent. I wish someone like Bruno Mars would produce a whole album for him.
@@TruG670 what do you mean who is bruno mars? Do some research. He is the only artist of this era to put respect on good soul music from the 70’s (via from his Silk Sonic album). Bruno Mars has worked with Charlie Wilson, Boyz 2 Men, etc…
@@TruG670Bruno Mara has not only produced but also written songs for damn near every Rnb or soul artist in the industry some are even bigger names than he is
Show some respect to the silent partner of LA Face Records, Daryl Simmons who co-wrote and co-composed the song. Daryl has been the man behind the curtains ever since The Deele days. He also helped put Dru Hill on the map on their debut album with "In My Bed" and "Never Make a Promise".
I never get tired of hearing this song.....Sing Tevin!!!!!! I know they were pressed for time....however I wish he could have performed the entire song!! God bless you,Tevin Campbell🙏🏿🙏🏿
@Karl M you might wanna hear out songs like adorn from miguel, trips from ella mai or damage from her. Nothing short of the best quality rnb you might think of.
Who’s here since the #CanWeTalkChallenge? 🙋🏾♀️ Nobody really can compete with Tevin’s high notes thus far. Tank started, but even he admitted he almost lost his esophagus trying to hit them high notes! 🤣 Mario, actually came close. It’s time to give Tevin his overdue tribute. Bring real R&B back! 🔥
Give this man his flowers while he’s still alive!! I’m so mad he hasn’t had his own tribute. 🤬 he is a treasure that should be acknowledged and protected! 🥰
Binky Miller YES!!! That movie is my childhood and Tevin Campbell as Powerline MADE that film as epic and under appreciated as it is. I’m gonna fire up Disney+ now to watch it again.
Prince knew what he found....dude still got a great voice! As a teenager in the 90s didn’t realize how great that era of music was until the 90s was looong gone lol.
@Karl M I've never thought that music would have gotten to this point. There is a new definition to as to what soul music as well as rhythm and blues sound like. The soul is very different from yesterday's soul. Today, in my opinion, lyrics are sung. Back in the day, stories were told and the audience felt every word of it. I miss it too. Thankfully we have RU-vid.
I literally remember when he was introduced on the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" where I heard him sing for the 1st time! Still sounds good as ever! Bravo!!!👏👏👏👏
This song, this era of music, oh lord.... I feel like I am laying down in my bed, 11pm, head phones on, cassette player going... just vibing... chill days... just chill...
I was just thinking about this one and how adorable he was singing Round And Round. Sounded like young M.J. On these 2 fell in love with him like a baby brother to spoil Lol My fav became Alone With You❤
Some people are so gifted. These two Gentlemen are the epitome of Musicianship. As others here have said it already, “You know you’ve made it when the Audience stands up and sings every word throughout the entire song”.
Still luv Tevin!!!! This whole show was bomb!! I need more.... come on baby face, I'm waiting on a tour with all your songs and the singers that sing them.
I wish this favorite song was the complete recording. It never gets old. His voice never disappoints. His talent cannot be diminished...EVER! THIS IS A RECORD I PURCHASED AND IT STILL SOUNDS SO GOOD. REAL TALENT IS ALWAYS TIMELY!
Beautiful. He still has it. No voice over or lip singing like most of these other artists. Awesome job. I was in 6th grade when this song came out. Still play it to this day. What can I say? Good music never gets old. It becomes Timeless. ❤❤
"Can We Talk" was written by Babyface and songwriting partner Daryl Simmons, but L.A. Reid wanted Usher Raymond to have the song. Babyface knows who is best for his songs, so he insisted Tevin Campbell get the song instead of Usher, and the rest is history. Michael Jackson is uncredited on background vocals for a song written before cellphones and the Internet. Today it would be titled "Can We Text".
Oh I wish he could have sang the entire song and some of his other classics! He still sounds and looks good! "Break It Down" and "Always In My Heart" will always be two of my favorite jams from him.
I’m loving this Live Arrangement!! Tevin still sounds amazing and the band really flows and grooves well which mends everything so beautifully! Thank you for posting this up on RU-vid! I’ve been looking for this live performance but I could only find on facebook! I honestly wish that whoever was in charge would’ve let him perform the full song!
Thanks to BabyFace for writing and producing this smash hit, as well as a slew of others for many artists. Congrats to Tevin for maintaining his voice and appearance for the ladys, through out these yrs AND for promoting the Can We Talk singing challenge. I had the pleasure of meeting Tevin in Washington DC, yrs ago and I have to say he is STILL a really kool dude after all these years, apparently. What you see is what you get from him....he does not pretend to be some grandiose, ego driven typical star.... he's just a down to earth guy. Tevin, it's nice to see that the industry loves you and so do your ever increasing pool of fans. Peace be unto you, bruh!😎
Obviously his voice has matured in the sense that it doesn’t reach the extremely high pitch from 1993, but he still crushed this performance and still sounds amazing. Hat’s off to you, Mr. Tevin Campbell.
This great man takes you back many years. Love was all around, and this crooner would get in your heart and soul with his voice and those words that were just right. I love you Tevin Cambell.
@@ecclairmayo4153 There are quality artist today. But if you are looking on radio, you looking in the wrong place. I grew up in the late 80s and 90s, mostly. There was both good and bad just like today. We just like music we grew up on more because it reminds of places , people and events. My parents swear that music ended after Motown.
Yes but there was variety and selection of r and b and rap. Like Will Smith was right for his time but by today's standards he would be Corny to young people. The music today is trash.
