This is my version of the 2nd Texas Backpackers RU-vid Meetup from Hill Country State Natural Area. We did this over Veterans Day Weekend in 2022. I really appreciated getting to know these other great channels from across the state. I can vouch for all of them that they are just as genuine in person as they seem on their channels. We missed a couple channels from last year's meetup at Caprock Canyons and had several other channels not be able to make it this year. For as little public land as Texas has, we have a lot of great places to backpack and a lot of great RU-vidrs to video it!
Be sure and checkout all the channels from this year's meetup. Subscribe to their channels if you aren't already. And if you're interested in attending something like this and you have a RU-vid channel about backpacking and are based in/around Texas, let us know!

Great place. I was there the following weekend. Perfect park for someone getting into hiking/backpacking or if you just need a night away. And yes, just like every other trail I’ve been on in Texas, all rock.
@CameronHall88

Lots of rock for sure. It's like the whole state is made of limestone. Haha. Thanks a lot for watching.

Hi Cameron, nice video. Hopefully it's not too much work to organize these. As someone who never backpacks, I have a suggestion for next year: Get a few people who are interested and do a 2 or 3 night off trail adventure at Big Bend, through some remote area of the park. I'd really like to see that, and it would make an awesome video. I haven't looked, but I wonder how many people have done videos of off trail backpacking at BB like that? It would be cool to see.
@CameronHall88
@CameronHall88 Год назад
I'm sure there are videos out there. But I haven't looked for them either. There are some great trip reports from big off trail trips on BigBendChat though. From routes and pictures I've seen, they'd make great videos for sure.

Surely there are more people backpacking in NM than TX. It's been great meeting people that are somewhat local that all have a common interest. A NM gathering would be awesome as yall have so many cool places to backpack.
@OneMansOdyssey
@OneMansOdyssey Год назад
@@CameronHall88 probably more people, but not nearly as many channels, ironically. I think it’s just a population thing; way more people in Texas than NM, so more channels even though fewer places to hike.

Good stuff. Been watching your videos for a while. I'm from McAllen TX. Love to backpack. But I do wish there was a list of places where to backpack in Texas. That's one of the reasons i come back to your channel to get some Ideas. Thanks

Nice video! It really brought out the group dynamic and captured the parts of the park we visited. Watching this video was akin to reliving the visit 🙂 That nightscape you got the first night was awesome; and thanks for attributing me bringing up the rear to my photo taking and not the fact that I’m also slow hahahaha! Moreover, thank you for the kind words on my photos, and thank you for doing all the legwork setting up the first (2021) and second (2022) annual gatherings! Count me in for 2023, and I’m happy to help coordinate it!

@CameronHall88
@CameronHall88 Год назад
@@MR-hb5mu do you mean the car camping site or a primitive backpacking site? Either way, I've never stayed at that specific site. Site 1 backpacking site on the north side of the river is basically right on trail. I usually try to get one of the sites a little further back. But it does have great access to Denio Creek and really isn't far at all from the river. I haven't been out to DVSP in a few months so I'm not sure what the river looks like. I'm sure with all the rain there is plenty of water out there though.

I fell excluded, being in New Mexico, oh well, ... Maybe this could be the beginning of a southwestern meetup (Arizona, New Mexico and of course, Texas). Let me know what you think?
@CameronHall88
@CameronHall88 Год назад
Yeah, we might do something that is just a general backpacking get together. Or I might do a subscriber thing later in the year. I have considered opening up the Texas RU-vid Meetup to whatever channels want to come even if they aren't from Texas. But it would be nice to keep it just to people who create backpacking content for RU-vid. We will most likely be in West Texas for the Meetup in 2023. (Assuming it happens again this year).

I have a reddit account but I don't think I've ever posted anything over there. I've only been on there a couple times just to read some backpacking stuff. If you're interested, I'll add you name to my list. I'll post a video or send out an email or something later this summer. It'll most likely be in November or December again. That time frame has worked well the past couple years.
