Five pre-war automobiles and a travel trailer were stored for more than 40 years in a Texas barn. Motostalgia Auctions founder Antonio Burnet tells us about the collection, which includes a 1932 Cadillac 370B V-12 Victoria Convertible, 1933 Cadillac Model 370C V-12 Town Coupe, 1938 Cadillac Series 90 V-16 Fleetwood Limousine, 1923 Milburn Electric Model 27L, 1908 REO Model G Boattail Roadster/Sedan Tonneau and a twice-used 1937 Kozy Coach Travel Trailer.
The cars and trailer will headline Motostalgia Auctions’ sale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 12, 2015 (www.motostalgia.com). Subscribe! | bit.ly/1sddOmD

The style of cars I’ve always wanted. Even though I’ve never driven one, just admired the style. Amazing that they’re still in original form.

That Victoria is a marvelous machine, truly once in a lifetime find. That vehicle needs to be restored, not just the normal restoration, but a full frame off restoration with factory original parts, and then placed in a museum.

1970's - In Walker, Michigan there was a local small business owner there who operated his lawn equipment business out his barn. Next to that barn, he had a collection of really rare old cars parked in an open field that covered about three acres or so. Not loosely - but door to door tight. You could not just walk out into the pasture and take a look at them. He had the area secured with electrified barbed wire by the road, and the cars enclosed by a fortress fence. About every 12 feet there was a sizable sign that read; "NO TRESPASSING. Area under surveillance. Violators will be prosecuted to the full extend of the Law. However, the road was at such an attitude parallel to the field, that you could see the car tops - so as any young curiosity adventurers would, we stood on top of an old school bus-motor-lodge with binoculars and took a look. He had some rather impressive vehicles out there - notably, one of them I wanted so badly I couldn't stand it- it was a 1939 LaSalle business coupe with dual side mount tires! There was what looked to be an old Cord sedan as well. Many of the cars were later 1920's - some mid 1930's, and a lot of 40's cars. We were warned not to go to his house and ask about the cars. Same at his business- if you mentioned them, he'd tell you it was none of your business. Then one day, my dad went there to buy a rider lawn mower from him. Since my dad drove his 33 Ford/ chevy powered hot rod there - they got to swapping car stories. ( I was, unfortunately not with him ) Dad was taken into the basement/lower level of the barn and shown the owners "running" collection. It included a couple of Auburn's, one being a boat-tail, a hand full of Packard Sedans from the 1930's, some late 40's and early 50's Cadillac's - and model T and A Fords. He also has a huge collection of old motorcycles piled up in the lofts of the barn. He rides an old Indian Chief. He told my Dad he was being driven NUTS by the guys who kept pestering him to sell some of the cars in the field. That is why he tried to keep them from view. Then he was catching guys in there at night looking around with flashlights. Finally, the owner had enough of it - and suddenly over night, every car in the field was gone including the fortress fence. Poof! Vanished into thin air. Just a huge deadened grass area was left. Rumor has it, he moved every car in the dead of night to another location where NO ONE WILL EVER SEE THEM AGAIN! That was 40 years ago. That man is still living, however - in his late 80's. Men like him and my Dad, who is 89, will cling onto their old collectible cars and motorcycles until they drop dead. They do not care what anyone thinks about them or the fact they aren't very open to other car guys. Such as my Dad for instance. If he doesn't know you, then he won't talk to you! My Mother also keeps a tight reign on who has access to my Dad. His garage is chocked full of car and motorcycle stuff going back the mid 1950's when he first got in the hot rod car thing and also hydroplane racing boats. The heyday for my Dad was in the early 60's, as he was able to find and buy vintage car parts - cheap. He also bought and sold vintage cars and trucks for a while. He dabbled with vintage motorcycles but even then the competition for them was fierce. Today, it's insane! In the next 10 to 15 years, there will many such "BARN FIND" stories like this one making the news - because there must be hundreds of such collections still out there, silently hidden away, not talked about, waiting in the dark - waiting for that one glorious day, again, see the light of day and a new wealthy as hell owners who'll spare no expense to restore them to their former glory and then be seen by thousands of admirers for the next 100 years and beyond! Many will also end up in Museums-forever- because they are just too rare and valuable.

+Rene Andre You want to know why they don't sell them? As every car is part of their past memories and has a place. So they never forget something/ All they have to do is walk around them and they are young again with memories of their youth. Might be why they are still around, as they just never give up!

I'm struggling trying to understand how and why some people feel they have the right to tell others what they should or shouldn't do with their stuff. I worked a few years back for a small company and was let into many homes and properties to do work for people. I've seen a lot of things, some trash, some antiques, some hidden some out in the open for all to see. Because of the work I did I was bonded and insured and learned not to ask about anything other than what was concerned with what I was there for. Because of this and my non pushy demeanor, if they saw me looking at something the would offer an explanation. Sorry Mike and Frank but being non-pushy got me farther than badgering someone to let go of their stuff. Its sad that their stuff may wind up a rusted heap or rotted beyond repair but if you think it through you'll realise that had they not set it aside it would have been gone long ago. I have a good close friend who is sitting on a goldmine of 60-70 cars. They are his, he does not need money, he likes them, and will not sell any and does not have time to be bothered by eager pushy fast talking deal makers. He has a car I would love to have and gets very defensive if I mention it. He has told me it is part of a set and it's not for sale. When he got it , with a little work it could have been driven. It's outside under a tarp, rotting away. Its his, not mine, I am aware that soon it will be just a pile of rust, but it's still his not mine. I've tried to get him to understand that if he sold a couple of these cars he could have a barn put up to put the others in. He prefers to go find more cars to add to his collection. Its his choice, and his stuff not mine. It gets even more complicated when you study the hoarder phenomenon. I once saw a doorway in a guys house, in the basement on an outside wall and asked where it went. By not being pushy I was shown a large collection of antique motorcycles and parts. Tunnels went back into a hillside and were propped up by post and timbers. Might still be there but they were his not mine. I guess what it comes down to is this, everyone has a junk drawer full of odds and ends that is no ones business but theirs. Yeah cars, furniture and equipment is larger and worth more, but what gives others the right to tell someone else what they can do with what they have in their collection. I'm not in business Like the much publicised 'Pickers' Mike and Frank but other peoples stuff is theirs not ours.

Anyone else notice the original match safe on the hood of the REO? It contains matches with the white phosphorus tips that are period to the car. They stopped making them decades ago & replaced them with "Safety" matches (red-tipped) as the white tipped ones were known to spontaneously combust. I'm sure these matches were used to light the hood lanterns when needed.

That Reo is going to be beautiful. the convertible caddy's original colour is heavenly. That's another big plus. Each car has it's own individual identity. I've been a machinery nut since I was a kid (including cars) and this find knocks all four pitches out of the park! I don't even want to figure out the probability of this happening. The REO cars and trucks were built by Ransom E olds. He is buried in the Mt Hope Cematary in Lansing Mi. The company merged with the Dimond T and was known for mant years as Dimond Reo.I worked on a repair job on the old plant shortly before it was dismantled. My father worked at oldsmobile when WW2 started and helped assemble the last civilian auto before it started building for the military

In February, 1923, General Motors purchased the Milburn Body Plant for $2 million with Milburn being retaining its right to make electric vehicles under their name. Milburn workers remained in the body plant for the two months following, finishing up cars and bodies previously under contract. Fisher Body Works was to move into the Milburn Body Works building to be able to handle the expected growth in sales of Buicks and other vehicles. Evidently, the extra capacity wasn't needed as GM offered the Milburn factory for sale just months after in August of 1923. Meanwhile, Milburn's remaining operations had moved to one of their smaller locations and evidently continued to produce trucks and on demand and subject to available parts and remaining bodies, their Model 27L Brougham.

Random Thoughts: 1. Super Neat and Rare cars. 2. "Barn Find" has become such an overused phrase in the old car world. In my mind at least, a true barn find would be if Jack, the owner of these cars kept them hidden away and upon his passing - some relative (who had no prior knowledge of the cars existence) wondered down to "dear old departed Uncle Jack's" barn - kicked open the door and WOW...! 3. With all that said in #2 above - I guess they are a "barn find" to the rest of the world in the sense that we just FOUND them on Hagerty Classic Cars! Good Job and Thanks.

That'[s nothing, you should see my grand fathers barn. What you see in there is something you only read about in books. And he refuses to sell any of it. 95 years old and he still thinks he'll get around to them someday.

231flash Wow!! That's a bold statement! Can you give some examples of makes/models he has also his secret to his long life? :)

pfflyers1 He has a collection of old racecars unseen by people outside the family since he hid them from the metal scrappers for the war in the 40's . The old fart never smoked but drinks beer every day to this day. He has outlived all his kids but 1, and seen the death of many grandkids and a few great grandkids. I know there are many people and some family waiting for his death so they can get their hands on many of the tid bits in his barns, cars , few motorcycles, vintage gas & oil signage. Crates and crates of NOS parts, many still in boxes and paper from dealers that closed over the years. It will be a Hemmings moment when he passes.

listenheredc Sorry I didn't mean it to sound like that but he does have a amazing stash of hidden gems covered in years of dust and dirt.
