the 2003 remake had me terrified when I was like 10 years old, especially when Leatherface first shows up

I think the 2022 sequel fails pretty hard on what they try to do with Sally's story. It was clearly their take on Halloween 2018, she's their version of Laurie Strode, older and traumatized and ready for their showdown. I think they were selling it on "Sally vs Leatherface" and it ended up feeling like a total waste. Her character really doesn't add anything, she achieved nothing, and comes off looking pretty stupid. They should've just left her out.

I enjoy Texas Chainsaw 1 and 2 because they are so different. The remake is solid and very well done.

I still remember the first time I watched the texas chainsaw massacre 2003. It was Halloween and we was at my grand parent house having a halloween party and I was waiting for my cousins to show up and I caught it in the middle of a TMC marathon that was going on on AMC. It terrified me. I told myself I would never watch it again cause of how scary it was but a few years later I gave it a second chance and loved it.

I'm so glad you feel the same about the remake. While the OG will always be iconic, this film really tried to make it's own mark.

For me the OG is the only important one. In my top 5 favorite films of all time. I get why some wouldn't find it really enjoyable tho. There are a couple others I'm a fan of mainly part 2 for almost opposite reasons. I agree it's an absolute blast. ChopTop should be considered an icon just for that 1 movie lol

Watched the big six slasher franchises this past October (Halloween, Chucky. Freddy, Jason, scream, Texas chainsaw) and I gotta say Texas Chainsaw was the roughest to get through only liked the first one, the remake and the beginning

I'm so happy that people are finally starting to see what a badass character that Erin (from TCM 2003) is. I do understand all of the criticisms of her but I'm happy that she is seen in a higher regard now

Underated thing about the remake is they have things that come full circle by the end of the movie Erin is the hitchhiker nobody eve talks about that or the moment where she realizes they're passing their van that mere hours ago they were so safe in nobody ever talks about that

I most definitely love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in every way. It was innovative as hell in its time. My favorite aspect is that it's more cerebral than it is ultra violent, which all the subsequent films lost sight of. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is so much goofy fun. The characterization and increased gore effects make it a truly gruesome black comedy. This one is also top-tier for me. LeatherFace: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 holds much nostalgia for me, as I had seen all three of these original films when I was in elementary school. Over time, it has lost any amount of luster it had for me. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation is bottom-of-the-barrel, dumpster fire filmmaking. I watched it one time and regret the time I wasted on it I enjoyed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '03 when I watched it in theaters. Upon rewatch, my interest was severely depleted, and I haven't watched it again until this past summer. It's better than I remembered, but I'm still underwhelmed. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is actually one I had never seen until this past summer; and I must say that I wasn't impressed. It's okay, but my deteriorated interest in the remake did not help me with this one. Texas Chainsaw 3-D is stupid fun, but I can watch it every once in a while. I still have yet to watch LeatherFace. I'm not opposed to doing so, nor have I gone out of my way to miss it. It's just never been included with any streaming services I subscribe to, unless I pay additional fees. Texas Chainsaw Massacre '22 is a lot of fun for me. I've watched it three times, and it has not lost anything for me, though it's a poor-man's version of Halloween '18. That said, it's my third favorite in this franchise after the first two films.

I live a stones throw from Bastrop TX where some scenes were filmed for the original. The gas station and van is still there. A must see for Texas Chainsaw fans. And some of the best brisket.

The SAW is family.

The first one is not only my favorite of the franchise, but it’s near the top of my favorite slasher movies. The second one is not bad but like you said you have to be in the mood for a goofier movie. I honestly didn’t mind Texas Chainsaw 3D. I saw it in theaters with my wife and another couple and had a great time with it. I’ve seen it a couple of times since and it’s quite a bit of fun to watch to me. I do remember being very confused about the time line but just don’t think about it too much. I’ve seen the 2003 remake twice and I haven’t enjoyed it either time. I’m not sure why. I want to like it though, so maybe the third times the charm when I get back around to it.

I finally got around to watching you show off your blu-ray collection and when you got to the kids films I noticed you just skate past Coraline but I think you would really enjoy it as we seem to have very similar taste in films. On a side note I noticed you didn’t have Parker or Masters of the Universe as part of your collection, both very cheesy films but worth buying both!

It’s probably just me, but I didn’t take Leatherface’s plot the way you did. I took it as they were basically telling you “hey this guy is leatherface, sit back and enjoy the ride” and then they threw the curveball in and revealed it wasn’t actually him. I never really took it as a mystery on which one was going to end up being leatherface. So I enjoyed that part of it

The remake is one of the few horror remakes I like. I have a soft spot for the original but I think I’ve only seen it a few times and not since I was like 16.

See, I didn't remember the remake when I saw The Beginning and all of the "Set up" you talk about was just fun moments for the movie. And the Characters are amazing to me! Definitely Saw is Family for me.

I used to love 2003 but the actors are bit slick and Leatherface looks so WWE, it really doesn’t hold up imo. Love how dark 2006 is and I really enjoyed 2022 when I saw a test screening almost 2 years ago. Was shocked at how hated it was by fans this year. Nothing touches the original imo. Perfect horror film! You give good background for your reasoning for each tier so cheers, keep these vids coming!

The humor in the first film has always been obvious to me. I'm honestly surprised that you can't se it.

I can't hate part 4. It's such an insane, stupid, ridiculous piece of garbage that I kind of love it lol

When I first watched TCM, the original and TCM 2 were the only two that existed and I loved both of them for different reasons. When 3 came out, I wanted to like it. I’ve revisited it 3 times and yeah, I still don’t recall what happened in it. It is pretty unforgettable. Then 4 came out and I downright hated it. So I was excited for the remake. I loved the remake except for 2 scenes. Leatherface taking his mask off and the skin disease explanation. You cut those unnecessary scenes and you end up with a prefect remake. After that is just a field of disappointment film after film.

I think Hooper knew that no matter how good he made the texas chainsaw massacre 2 it would never reach the amount of love and respect as the first one, I'm willing to bet that's why Hooper decided to make a goofy horror comedy because if he tried doing something similar it would've most likely received some hate for being disappointing or inferior to the first one, I think it was a smart move even though I dislike the second movie.

I've tried so hard to like the TCM movies, but the reboot with Jessica Biel is the only one I've ever actually enjoyed...possibly because it's one of only two I actually saw in the theater, and it's probably my first TCM movie, certainly the first one I saw all the way through. Jonathan Tucker really sold me on that boy's fear and despair and that genuinely bothered me at the time.

I still haven't seen the most recent movie. After the Leatherface prequel, I haven't felt all that motivated to give the franchise another chance. That said, here's how I'd rank the others. S - Chainsaw '74 A - Chainsaw 2 B - The Beginning, 3D C - Next Generation, Leatherface '90 D - Chainsaw '03 F - Leatherface '17 The first film is, of course, a classic. My main argument for sticking the second film in the A tier is that I couldn't bear to stick either of the two B tier films any higher. That being said, both The Beginning and 3D managed to deliver at least some of the gruesome fun that Chainsaw 2 did so well. Yes, they're silly, but they're silly in a way that fits the material. The third and fourth films in the series both feel half-baked. They're practically remakes of the first film in their own right, and that lack of creativity is only made worse by their low budgets and lack of stylistic flourish. But at least they understood the first film's themes, unlike the remake. There's still that necessary ingredient of social satire in the stew, especially in The Next Generation. The 2003 film apes the iconography of the first film without understanding the symbolic significance of that iconography, so it's an empty affair. (This is where The Beginning made significant improvements over it.) Even so, the remake had some shred of competence to it, unlike the 2017 prequel. That film is essentially unwatchable, and it totally misses the point of the series. My position on this franchise is pretty simple: a Texas Chainsaw Massacre film should never be interchangeable with a Wrong Turn movie. And without the biting satire that defined the 1974 original, there's no real difference. Eliza Dushku in a white tank top is essentially indistinguishable from Jessica Biel in a white tank top, and I have little interest in watching either one.

It definitely makes me giggle when I hear Tobe say the first TCM was horror comedy. I don’t even know what works you would have to live on for THAT to be funny.

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of tier list rankings in general (that's just me being me), but I'll throw my hat into the ring with this one anyways: "THE SAW IS FAMILY!" (Masterpiece): Original Appetizing (You can't really go wrong with this one): 2003 Remake, The Beginning Edible (Not Best-of-the-Best levels, but Enjoyable and Harmless to watch on a Friday/Saturday night after a long and grueling week): Part 2, 2022 Requel (Sequel/Reboot), Next Generation Spoiled Meat (You could certainly do a lot worse, but these movies are still not good): Part III, 3D 2013 "DO YOUR THING, CUZ!" (Why am I wasting my time watching this P.O.S.?): Leatherface (2017 Prequel)

For me, the Leatherface from 2017 is the forgettable one of the series. Lots of non TCM stuff going on. As for part 3, for me that's SO much better than part 2.

I saw the remake in the theater when I was already a long time fan of the franchise and it's easily the second best film in the franchise for me with TCM 2 being my favorite. I saw the original on video in the early 90s when I was like 11 and I thought it was good but nothing mind-blowing. I'd rank it third followed by TCM 3.

I probably like the 2003 remake best. One of the best remakes ever made in my view. The original is a classic but I need to be in the right mood to watch it, which honestly isn’t very often. I also don’t mind the Netflix film. Not great by any means but it was a watchable enough slasher. Also it was pretty short and a breeze to get through. Texas Chainsaw 3D is alright enough. Not my favorite but it’s watchable enough. Not sure if I’ve seen the others in full.

I have only seen 3 Texas chainsaw movies: the beginning and 3D: 20022 Netflix movie and I think I personally enjoy 3D as I thought it was a movie that I could just watch and get interest in the movie as the beginning movie was just a bit boring for me and I also really didn’t enjoy watching the new movie except the bus massacre scene in the movie
