I found a bunch of Texas persimmon trees while camping. The fruit is good, but my husband says it’s an acquired taste because he didn’t like them as much as I do. I watched your video a few weeks ago and started to soak my seeds. I guess I’ll take them out, since yours didn’t germinate with the soaking method. I was gonna soak them until February but I think I’ll plant some now - end of September and see how they do over the winter.

Awesome! My family's the same way; it's an acquired taste. I've also had fruits from trees where it was bitter despite being dark and soft. Actually, plant the seeds now while they're fresh. I planted some in late August and they're sprouting now! So Texas Persimmons do not require cold stratification!

How are your cherimoya trees doing? 😊 Studies say not all the seeds in the cherimoya grow edible fruit trees. Have your trees fruited this past spring? Could you make an update video? Thank you ☺️

I planted 8 Texas persimmon seeds without stratification or scarification and they all sprouted

@@Sam-ko1lo Now that it’s the active season, I want to try that! I’ve also heard they’re easy to sprout. 😊 I thought they were similar to American Persimmons. The soaked seeds never sprouted.

Where do you get a Texas or American Persimmon plant from?
@shamrockgirl804
@shamrockgirl804 19 дней назад
Plant nurseries will likely carry American or 'Native' Persimmon trees, either in containers throughout the year or bare-rooted trees during the winter and early spring. Some local nurseries in Central Texas carry Texas Persimmons but they're not as common as the native and Asian persimmons.

What did you mean when you said you soaked the seeds for several months?
@shamrockgirl804
@shamrockgirl804 2 месяца назад
I soaked the seeds in room temperature water for several months. I did the same thing to American Persimmon seeds and they germinated after I planted them and began young seedlings. However, the Texas Persimmons seeds didn't germinate. For the 2024 season, I plan on using different germination methods for these seeds.

@@shamrockgirl804 I planted 8 Texas persimmon seeds in pots without soaking and without stratification or scarification as an experiment to see if any would germinate. They all sprouted.

Look neat, but too much works for tiny little fruit.

Don’t the males have thorns! The fruit is delicious!

I haven't noticed thorns on the male trees. But it would be nice for trees to have some overt physical distinction between male and female trees!
