I run a much larger wind turbine on my boat and it takes a surprising amount of wind and perfect alignment to produce any meaningful amount of electricity. Small portable wind turbines might develop into something more practical in time, but currently there isn’t anything on the market that really works.

The wind will always be diffused by objects on the ground. You'd be better off to get a pole you can screw together and bury into the ground, so you can raise it higher. The wind is moving faster the higher up you go.

Here's an idea, why don't you connect this to your handlebar as you're cycling from one place to another. It might provide enough wind to charge your phone up from a certain percentage to another. Would be interesting to see. You could also go to marina barrage where there are pretty strong winds, try putting it a bit higher up. Also, no harm in contacting the manufacturer. It might be a case where the device works but you unfortunately received a lemon. They might send out a replacement to try or give some advise, like lubricating some parts or other tips to get the most out of the item and maximise the charging.

A few guys have mentioned a similar idea too, as well as attaching it to the mast/rails of a boat (example). I tried attaching it to my bicycle handle-bat, but it was sorta in-the-way. LOL`

I get the impression this is all about location, location, location. Where I live, on the coast of Norway, a turbine like this would spin like mad hell 20 out of 24 hours. I have also learned from flying radio-controlled glider airplanes, that airflow moves along terrain in special ways. I'm sure it's possible to optimize placement of the propeller as you gain experience "reading the airflow". Especially if traversing high mountains, it is possible to find spots with constant strong winds. But if it needs 24mph winds to charge at all however, I'm not sure it would be enough even here. Bigger blades turning a more powerful dynamo is probably needed. Cool video. Normally I would say it's too long. But it's well edited and informative all the way, making it a very enjoyable watch. Cheers
@Hong.Wanderlust
@Hong.Wanderlust 2 года назад
Many thanks for dropping by! Yes, I do reckon you're right, that the location where this is set up is crucially important. Unfortunately for me, it will be hard to find such spots here in Singapore. That said, from some of the other advice/comments I've received, having this fitted onto a moving vehicle (eg: boat) could be a useful option as well. 🙂

They should design vertical type of that instead of propeller type. Vertical will spin easily even in low wind and it is more efficient of harvesting the wind energy.

@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL
@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL 2 года назад
Saw this in my recommended. All I can say is that it is kind of dodgy. It has no voltage regulator so it can be spinning really fast and generating too much voltage which can damage your phone’s charging circuits. If I was to get one I would get a voltage regulator circuit for it so It would have a constant 5 volt output no matter the how fast the turbine is spinning

Maybe if you created a small portable wind tunnel, that would solve the problem. I'm familiar with the Venturi Effect with rocket stoves, and that same principal works with liquid and air. That principal basically states that liquid/air will speed up when entering a smaller diameter. So if you created a 5ft (more or less) opening to your tunnel, then tapered the tunnel down to 3ft, the air would speed up when entering the 3ft section of the tube/tunnel. And at the end of the tunnel it would expand back to 5ft again, and that's where you would place your generator. You should theoretically get faster wind speeds at the end of your tunnel than at the beginning
@googogler

@petejones1957

Would be interesting to look inside the alternator, it certainly looks to be "cogging" meaning it's not an ironless generator which would start to spin a lot easier. ( might even be a motor they're using as a generator, which is never a good idea) , you said you could feel the vibration when you turned it round, which would seem to confirm this. It does however, look very well made,, and possibly just needs a strong wind. Can't really beat solar panels for charging phones, I used to charge my phone from my bike hub dynamo, but had to cycle about 40 miles to achieve the same result a 15w Anker solar panel gave in an hour ( in the sunny south of France) Great video, thankyou

There's a saying in Sg. Use money to make money. You should use wind to make wind or rather use electricity to make electricity. Not free, there is no free lunch. You have to pedal harder with the resistance in turning the fan. Easier to just carry a portable battery. The make a front wheel hub that has a generator in it. It takes up to 6% of your pedalling power. Not much on a short ride, but on a long tour it is not worth it compared to a battery pack.

I'm late to the party, but this was a cool review. I live in an area where the wind is pretty strong a good amount of the time. Unfortunately, I also live in an area where it rains/snows 3-4 months out of the year, which I don't think would be good for the electronics part of the turbine... or my smaller electronics. Maybe, I can get some sort of shelter in conjunction with this to use it almost anywhere. 😊

Another option I've read in my comments, is to have it placed facing a fan (while you're actually using the fan - in summer), but it isn't something i've tried. 😊

Maybe if you somehow got it "loosened" up a bit? Looks to me like it's a bit to "tight", loosening the connection between the turbine and the generator might/should make it spin easier, IE: Less resistance/friction... Cause out of the box it looks like it WANTS to stop
@Hong.Wanderlust
@Hong.Wanderlust 2 года назад
I did indeed try 'loosening it up' a little, but it still wasn't as smooth as I would've liked. Ultimately, I think the windspeeds were just too low (more like breeze-speeds). LOL!

Nice video! I have one and even bought the Air 24. It does take some strong wind to use it. Mine unfortunately has pretty much locked up and all I have used it for is light testing. But it did produce energy. I also pressed down on the tripod to get it to stand in the sand and broke a part that holds the leg down. So be careful with the tripod. My thoughts are that it would be good for attaching to a boat, mountain climbing, or extremely windy and consistent winds. Check out my unboxing of the infinite air 24 if you would like. Take care! Aloha

Hello! Yeah, I think you're absolutely right, this product will work exceptionally well if used out at sea or camping in mountainous/windy spots! Will definitely take a look at your video too! Thanks for dropping by! 😊

Is there a infinite air 24? Or is it 18?
@Hong.Wanderlust
@Hong.Wanderlust 2 года назад
@@elieltanr I think it might depend on where you live? Here in Singapore, it seems like we only have the 'AIR 5' and 'AIR 18' available. - www.texenergy.com/collections/portable-wind-turbines

Yeah! I saw some videos of guys attaching it to a sailboat while out at sea, and I think that's a brilliant idea of ensuring constant and consistent winds.

let say i want to power my 100W monitor for one hour, and lets say you could store the turbine power in batterie. With 3.2V and 0.2A you generate about 0.64Wh that is 156hours of charging to run 100W appliance for one hour. I am noob, and i could be wrong. But this is not really good

Hello! I'm a noob with such things too! 😅 But you're right, unfortunately this product may not be very suitable for most applications (personal opinion), unless you're in a REALLY suitable location (mountain) or constantly in the move (boat).

Unfortunately you did not have a strong enough wind to overcome the resistance of the turbine. A body in motion tends to remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. Same for a body at rest, stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. Your turbine was at rest and wouldmanufacturer's ,
