TF2’s Most HATED Trader 

As crazy as it sounds, I understand him locking the ones that he absolutely didn't want to sell. Aside from that, just seeking out and trade banning them is ridiculous

I can understand his reasoning, wanting people to stop bothering him about his hats that he has no intention of trading/selling. I get that a lot too, and I'm not even a trader

So basically, he found a way to buy a little peace of mind amidst the crazy world of TF2 trading. That's kinda cool.

Since it's not intended mechanic to be able to lock items in your account, I think locking them serves no purpose other than just making sure you can't change your mind in the future. I've got items I would never sell or give away, don't need to make it untradable to make that happen. It's been in the game for years and Valve aren't doing anything against it, so it just comes to what others thinks about the situation

Thing is I'd probably do this myself because I don't really care about the market all that much. Key example is that if I ever win a golden frying pan I'm going to spin a wheel that decides if i sell it or delete it.

Making stuff untradeable does sorta serve as protection against hacking and scamming attempts too since you can't move them out and if the account was griefed you could recover it with no major damages, it's more then reasonable imo. No one owes the market anything.

I understand why he’s tradelocking the items but it feels like it’s gonna end up like that guy that deleted his golden frying pan: he’s gonna get more harassment when he was trying to avoid it

I suppose he had one more reason among the mentioned ones: traders can be a very lucrative target for account stealers and by locking the items he made them impossible to sell if the account is stolen, thus, making the attempts useless

They wanna keep it? They bought it? I don't see a problem in them making it untradeable, because if they had no problems keeping it then these items would be locked to an account regardless. All this is now is a sign for everyone to know that it is NOT FOR SALE. If Valve really found it problematic, maybe they should make miscs unboxable again, just saying. ;)

honestly this is fun to do with one of a kind limited unusuals. it basically locks the collection to your name, making any traders seethe over that little "not tradable/not marketable" line of red text under your hat. i wouldn't go that far myself unless i want to troll traders

I wouldn't do this myself, but I think it's perfectly justified if you were never gonna trade the items anyway.

I just think it insane that people will willingly pour more money than the average person will ever see in one go into a bunch of pixels and models. Do these people really not have a better use of their money?

I fully understand why this guy is doing it, he ain't doing it for any selfish gain, he ain't trying to hold onto these items for others to be mad about it, he just wants to be left alone and keep the items he wants. Think about it, if you guys got let's say a Personalized Killstreak Kit for the Golden Frying Pan and you kept getting bothered by it would you want to make it untradable so nobody can bother you again? Yeah that's what I thought.

I've had 3 hats so far over the years where I thought "This is it, end game. NFS, never giving it up." I think that about my current hat. But as time goes on my interests change and new things become available. TL;DR: Never say never.

Personally done this with some weapons including my Black Dahlia and if there were just a cheap option to lock items I'd have no issue with locking a bunch of my own items. Also the best usage for a glitched ks kit is 100% on the pda if you were to ask me.

i think it is justifiable, since it's the owner of the item's choice to trade them or not, and locking items to your inventory is an understandable descision considering he mentioned being asked numerous times to trade, even though he didn't want to. Unusual hats do not have to be for sale, as stated earlier, it is the owners choice. So all things considered i think it is justifiable because unusuals arent necessairly made for trading, some people just like collecting them with no intention to sell/flip them.

i absolutely would. a buddy of mine gave me a really nice unusual engi hat, and i'd like to not have to put up with scammers pestering me

Ill admit myself, im not as rich or crazy to purchase all these unusuals. BUT i do my own little tradition of making untradable strange festive weapons. Its their my permanent strange items. Ive had them since like 2016 and i still enjoy them. I still need to complete the entire collection but still, i have no regrets

Most hated? By who? It's same as if he was just buying items for collection without intention to sell. How this "affects the market" is really dumb question, as all he does is collecting hats that he like, it it completely irrelevant if it possible or not to trade them technically if he has no intention to do that in the first place.

The only unusual I really want is an unusual "Head Prize" ffs. To bad I'm a broke b%&ch and that thing literally costs like 2k

The dude should have made their inventory or their profile private instead of bugging out the items in their possession but at the end of the day is their account. However, Valve has the last word on it but they won't care at all.

I would 100% make the items I really want untradable. Would help stop getting messages/friend requests just for the items and for a fun little gimmick of "I have this super expensive untradable thing"

I personally dont care since it is their item which now is worth nothing at all. However, i must admit that this is the dumbest decision somebody has made that i have ever faced in my 12 years of playing TF2 and probably will face in my entire life. I know many traders who also said they will never ever sell their items back in like 2013-2015, but then many years later they totally changed their decision and cashed out now. The statement "I will never sell my items ever" is a very biased decision, because you never know what's gonna happen in your life that will make you rethink everything and change your opinion entirely. What if your circumstances change in which you suddenly need a lot of money? I hope he won't be one of those people who regret it because i can't imagine the pain, but if it happens then he totally deserved it, sorry to say that.

If I have the money I would do the same tbh (lock a item I will never think of selling) but if I reach a point where I don’t need it anymore or don’t care for it, it’s just better to pass it on to someone else

Interesting, reminds me of a similar situation where I decided to play an ironman account in oldschool runescape so that people would stop pestering me about free stuff and lending items by making myself completely incapable to trade purposefully. Still, those collector items in TF2 have huge real life monetary equivalents and to just delete their value completely is too much.

Whoever would harasse this guy for doing this like they did with the guy that deleted his golden pan are total fucking losers that need to go outside more. He didn't scam them or did scummy stuff and paid honest money for them so he does what he wants. What he did and what the golden pan guy did is with nothing different from traders that would never trade some items or accounts that get forgotten with high tire item in them, if is not on the open market it does not exist for you no matter the reason why they are not on the market so just move on.
