You forgot to mention that Contra City had a crotch hitbox. So if you killed someone hitting in the crotch, killfeed would show an icon of 2 cracked eggs, and a chicken sound would play. Very important detail.

Obviously The Rocket isn't a ripoff of The Soldier, it's clearly implied that The Rocket is just what Soldier shoots out of his Rocket Launcher. That's why there are so many The Rockets in his video, it's a representation of all the Rockets he has stored in his back pocket.

I remember playing Final Combat! While playing as the Striker I always kept running out of ammo due to the low max reserve ammo his rifle has, so his line "I need more bullets!" is forever engraved into my memory.

It turns out that Soldier set really is a reference to Final Combat, the name of the set on the workshop was "Closing Conflict"

Fun Fact! The first map you show in kontra city "killbox" map is actually just a stolen TF2 community map that me and my friends used to play on! It's mainly for no-cover combat practice and maneuverability training!

Contra city was actually considered relatively popular as far as I remember. And y'all should remember that that was (and still is) free online game inside of social media. It's still...cursed, tho.

I now strongly desire a fireman cosmetic set for soldier that's 1:1 with "The Rocket" just so there would be literally no difference between the two.

i actually love TC2. It runs better for me and even though there are less maps i really like the changes that it did to the game ballance especially that scout's bat crits on low hp enemies making it actually feel like a finishing tool for once.

I played tc2 as far back in 2019, and funny enough, they used to have its own engine up until not to long ago where they changed it to feel like the Source Engine.

Regarding Contra City, I remember playing it in my early school days, and I definitely remember there was a mechanic in this game which tracked the place of enemy’s body you just shot, and it played voice similar to that voice from Quake 3 (double kill, rampage etc) But instead it said things like: “Crotch shot!” or something. That mechanic absolutely has to be in TF2

Final Combat having a dedicated Assault Rifle class might be the only original thing it has over TF2, and the French SF bastard may or may not be origin of my descent into insanity that is assault rifles in tf2. Another fun fact about Striker: Apparently some time later in FC’s life he got an M32 as an M4 (errorneously named the MK18) alternative, which makes him Final Combat’s equivalent of the Demoman, sorta. Demo’s kit was split between Striker and Rocket, with Striker getting the GL and Rocket getting the Sticky Bomb Launcher in his primary slot. -Blizzard ripped off Soldier 76 from Final Combat’s Striker-

The shitty thing about Contra City? That map you saw most of the gameplay on....IS a TF2 map. Its a DM map, made solely for deathmatching. So the point IS just to farm kills. I'm VERY familiar with the map just not the name. Just DM_something in my brain.

Final Combat specifically I noticed, has a lot of environmental assets ripped straight out of Battlefield Heroes, the trees, most buildings, and the map at 8:12 looks like that one map with the lighthouse and small city. They do really just take random games and throw em' into a big crackpot without forethought uh?

Oh my god, you did an amazing job of finding a true relic of it time. I truly dont believe that you really dug up Contra-city. Me and my classmates used to play it, back in the day. It was wery buggy and low budget game, but worked in browser of russian social media VK. The game gained popularity among community because of simplicity and overall childish concept of killbox games, and was populated by a catch phrase-forum banner "все в контру" in most cursed 2010s meme style, translating into "hop on contra". Such a gem made me cry.

Final combat making the healer a cutesy anime girl was always a given, when medic is clearly superior because *men.* One thing I noticed, ripoffs try so hard with their cosmetics in particular for whatever reason. You can really appriciate the simplicity of tf2's customization from that.

To be honest, Contra City was the game of my childhood. I remember spending lots and lots of hours there, and actually have fond memories of it, despite it being a shitty cashgrab xd

If it weren't for the fact that Final Combat is.... That. The characters themselves don't look horrible, they got a bit of personality too. Kinda. ... But not enough for anyone to like them more than the TF2 mercs lmao

The real reason why Final Combat is lost for good was because of its sourcecode, it was an enigma to crack inside that even the most devoted hackers gave up on it, not sure if the thread at FacePunch forums got archived.

The Striker from Final Combat was actually a copy of the Madcap from the TF2 beta, obviously.

The thing i appreciate about Typical Colours is that it actually does a good job at recreating the game in Roblox, which is great because the game itself takes next to no storage space to play online and doesnt has low res graphics I could play Typical Colours on a really old and bad work computer when I couldn't play TF2 because I'm not even sure my computer had a Graphics card (Atleast, not one made in this millenium)

One of my favorite games with a TF2 reference in it is the Strikeforce Heroes series of flash games, specifically Strike Force Heroes 2. They include a lot of pop culture references from the 2010s, including Heavy's minigun. There's a couple more tf2 references and other pop culture references sprinkled in there, too.

i want to show you a really well made tf2 inspired game called blitz brigade made by a now bankrupt company game loft. blitz brigade is a mobile game that i grew up with and the thing that killed it was it's abandonment. (game loft was very well known for abandoning their games soooo) but what made people upset was that they wanted a pc version of this game and never got it. soon after it got swarmed with hackers and bots. now the servers are shut down(i think, cause it wont load any games/maps)this game was extremely fun to play and i wish some devs soon buy it and get it back online

I played Final Combat back in the day, and I remember fake heavy being able to jump while firing, which was basically a huge buff to the class, which was already insanely good due to fake soldiers not being able to rocket jump, as well as the absence of both demomen and spies. If you're going to rip off a game, why not go all in and also rip off the game's balance..? Also, if you typed any variation of the name "Team Fortress 2" in chat, it would show up as censored in chat, like "*****". How subtle of them.

The map at 4:11 isn't even original, It's a "duels" map some tf2 servers use (not sure which servers used it but I played on some). It also seems like a 1:1 copy

I haven't played enough of it to be CERTAIN, but some of those Final Combat map models and textures look like... REALLY close to an old cartoony shooter game called "Battlefield Heroes."

Wasn't expecting TC2 to be in here, but it's a welcome surprise regardless.

Contra city was extremely popular in Russia since it was played in browser, didn't need to be downloaded, and was simple and fun. Never thought that it was ripped of so badly, but when you're a 8yo goof you didn't care about what to play, you just wanted to play

Tbh, this is one of the rare moments that a tf2 youtuber doesnt treat TC2 like trash instead of saying "Just go play tf2" or "You realize tf2 is free right?"

I'm surprised you didn't mention Monday Night Combat or Battlefield Heroes. Heck, even Loadout was considered a TF2 clone a few times.

As someone who played Contra City back in the day (like, 2013 to 2014) I can confirm that it's not just the art style & weapon concepts that were stolen but the maps as well (not unlike Final Combat), for example two of the Contra City maps seen in the video are just ripoffs of dm_duel (a community deathmatch map) and Watchtower. Other games' maps were copied too, I remember a map that vaguely played like Counter-Strike's Inferno despite the layout being nothing alike from what I can remember, but it did have a similar feel. Looking at 'recent' gameplay footage of the game also shows a knockoff of CSGO's Cache, with a modified/simplified layout but still very much a near 1:1 copy.

Let me add some things regarding Contra City. TDM, CTF and Control Point werent the only game modes available. It also had its own Zombie infection game mode; One player is selected as a "fat boss zombie" at the beginning, and its job is to infect the living players. All zombies have no abilities, only a basic melee attack and increased health. Plus, a generic "free for all" game mode, as far as i remember. And here's the most interesting thing... The weapons. Apart from the ones shown, there are actually weapons you can buy for in-game cash that replace certain weapons. For example, you can buy a flamethrower to replace the mini gun, you could deadass buy a grim reaper's scythe to replace the bat, etc. It doesn't stop there, however. Certain "expensive" weapons have actual perks that come with them; like bleed, poision, slow down, etc. And as you would expect, there is absolutely NO balance to those whatsoever. Any 13 year old could steal their mommy's credit card and get some perk weapons to just demolish the enemy team. And when i say expensive, i mean it. You either grind for hours on end, or just use your money. A lot of high tier (or in TF2 terms, "tryhards") players have these weapons equipped at all times and usually have the same fricking SWAT cosmetics with either a Joker or a generic mime face paint, and a "V for Vendetta" face mask. Oh, and the game had a MASSIVE cheating problem back in a day. Aim assist, wall hacks, NO CLIP, it was a total mess. The anti-cheat was practically non-existent, since the game ran on Unity. All you could do is take a screenshot or a video, post it to a group's "forum" and pray to whatever deity you believe in that they will read it and ban the player manually. There was no "kick player" system either (it probably still doesn't have one, i last played the game back in a 9th grade.) But yeah, the game is a mess, can't believe it still has servers running. EDIT: mvm, me and theWhat both overlooked their social media posts. Contra City shut down in may 2022 because of some Unity engine shenanigans. The developers are working on a different game. Lmao

The fact Contra City still gets updates but we don't is saddening.
