[TF2] Strange Farming Is It Immoral? 

I used !givemeall as a f2p and ended up not having enough backpack space for random drops. I deleted things I received from achievements to make space not knowing that I'd never be able to get them back. Things such as my mercenary medal, the director's cut taunt, the unusual haunted scrap, and the monoculus hat are things where, if I had just not used the command and waited to get them later, I would have had the backpack space to keep them. As for the pride and accomplishment of having gotten the achievements myself, I reset my achievements about a year ago and have been gaining them legitimately, which has been a lot of fun.

There was a command on a server I don't remember called /giveitems which only gave me the item achievements. While I kind of regret not earning them legitimately, looking back, it opened up a lot more options for myself as a newer player to learn while getting the rest of the items from random drops. It also really helped when you didn't know the community market existed and thought each weapon actually cost a few dollars instead of three cents.

I remember that one time I got scammed and lost a lot of my strange weapons, I was so sad that when I was able to buy them back I used a strange farming server to fill up my old kill number.

i only used a strange farm once and it was to level up my phlog without causing proportionate suffering. now, on the rare occasions when i use the phlog, people can look at how leveled it is and feel dread. psychological warfare

i think that using sam or !givemeall to get achievement items such as the directors vision or unobtainable achievements (like the youtube replay ones) is understandable, but i think that newer players should avoid them (specially f2ps since they will clog and fill their inventories with items they cant recover when deleted)

I never used !givemeall, but I did use S.A.M. to get weapons and hats through whatever commands gatekeeped them, but overall I'm happy I never used a command, it's fun to unlock a new achievement every now and then. I dont mind when others do, but I'm glad I didn't. Strange servers however, I really don't like them. Building up a strange over time is fun, and it's extremely satisfying to see your progress, and I feel the servers not only rob it from yourself, but to others as an extent. Just makes it feel less like an achievement, which I really dont like. But it is what it is, not like Valve's fixing it anytime soon.

i never used givemeall due to me simply liking to keep track of when i earn any given achievement, don't see anything wrong with it as long as these achievements stay the same as they have been for the past decade and a half. never used strange farms either because i don't much care for e-peen, but to each their own

I did reset my achievements, but the !givemeall command I used ONLY unlocked the achievements that grant an unlock. For example, prime cuts was not completed but all of the sniper milestones were. Gave the achievements that were just to unlock a weapon while still allowing you to get rewarded for killing all nine classes in a single match with the classic.

I did !givemeall multiples times and the result was getting almost every single archivement at the cost of not being able to craft the Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker. Even tho i have a Haunted Metal Scrap out of it. There's better way to bypass tf2 archivement but it was worth the try.

As a kid I was obsessed with this game but I was not very good. I spent a lot of time farming kills with my strange scattergun on servers like these just to look cool. When I recently got back into tf2 it just felt dirty even owning the damn thing so I sold it for a couple bucks and bought a new strange. Racking up strange kills is one of the most gratifying experiences for me now that I've been doing it legitimately. Not only does it feel good to see that stat clock tick up with each kill, but it chronicles your learning journey with that weapon and is overall a very wholesome experience. Go ahead, cheat achievements for items, but just don't farm kills... save yourself the embarrassment and money.

And if you are like me. After you use !give all or !give items. You do the dumb thing and delete your haunted scrap metal since you don't know what it's for and you delete your gibbus. I really wish I knew about the haunted scrap metal and how to use it.

Whenever I check a sus profile and they have 520/520 achievements it just further confirms my suspicions.

Nothing amoral about it, I buy stranges to track how far I've come with a weapon, if you want to rob yourself of that experience feel free, doesn't affect me at all, it's not like anyone's really impressed with high strange numbers anymore

When I first started off I did the givemeall command, and obviously I got a bunch of stuff. But some of the achievement items just disappeared from my backpack. Like the camera melee, and a few other reskin melee weapons, like the necro smasher and all that. Never deleted them, but don't know where they went

I found a server that only gave you the achievements that gave you item rewards, specifically hats/taunts. I only used it to get the achievement items that you cant get anymore, those being the posting a clip from tf2 to RU-vid and etc

I used a strange farming server before, and got a lot of my favorite weapons pretty high in level but, as I was playing the game normally in Quickplay, I started to feel kinda scummy afterwards, even farmed for a bunch of Achievements. I decided to start fresh by starting over by wiping my achievements and clearing all kills from the strange weapons I farmed up. I felt so much better afterwards.

Here's an argument for strange farming: Say you've been using a weapon for a long time but only now did you get a strange variant. I could see someone wanting to get a few hundred kills to make up for all the uncounted ones. Also, for givemeall, there are a few achievements (the youtube view ones) that are impossible to attain now so if you're going for 100%, something like that will be needed.

early on i used a command that only gives the "milestone" achievements that indicate how many achievements you've gotten, not the actual achievements. so it didn't give me ALL of the achievements, just the ones required for the milestone achievement items. it was actually pretty useful for getting the cool unlocks without having to get involved with trading or waiting for item drops.

Man doomsday isn’t even the only map that has a achievement where you need to win 142 times

Personally, I don't mind if people use some things like SAM for something like the Black Rose achievement (completely doesn't work), or the Powerhouse achievement (because that should be against the Geneva Convention). As for strange farming, who cares? It's primary about the time investment more than anything, aside from maybe sniper rifles. Strange farm servers just make it a bit easier to grind. As well, some weapons simply don't reliably get kills due to low damage or gimmicks (things like the Scorch Shot) I also fully condone using a strange farm server to level a Dead Ringer in particular, since almost randomly getting that message can absolutely murder a play since the announcement is still played to everyone

I used !givemeall and I don't really regret it but what i do regret was deleting my mercenary badge and my directors vision taunt (i was like 12 at the time) because they took up inventory space which i barely had at the time.

the only time ive used a strange farming server is when i accidentally deleted my strange scattergun i had been working on for over a year. after being put in a depressive state i rememberd strange farming servers exist and was really not that mad anymore

If you check the ranks on that strange server shown in this video (Starsfan's Strange Farming Server), you'll see me between ranks 20-30 with over 1 million clocked kills over a variety of weapons. I quit strange farming in late 2021, only using it to get certain parts up to speed or to fix stupid bugs that occur at times Currently I've been happy slowly seeing my strange sniper rifle increase and about 2 weeks ago I got it to hales own, it now sits at 9379 kills as of this post, I usually gain between 50-90 kills per day just by casually sniping EDIT : 2 months ago I sat at 9379 and now I sit at 12,667 kills I barely play TF2 either so I have no clue how I'm there

So I did this back in the day for one specific reason. I got all the milestones and a few of the hats. But getting the haunted metal scrap was almost impossible back in my eyes. So I did it just for that and some pointless hats when I already had some nice cosmetics that I preferred.

the replay achievements are completely unobtainable as of now, so the give me all command is needed if you want those items

I love game achievements but the gibus was a very tempting offer to cheese 2 months ago when I couldnt dominate someone to save my life, I have then since gone back, removed the illegit achievements, and began the grind legitimately, I love achievement hunting so I have had fun so far

strange leveling servers are more of a frowned upon thing to me, like, i'd just prefer to have the big number be the actual number of kills i got with it. The only time i ever used one was when I tried to sell a flamethrower to the steam market and got nothing and had my kills reset on it when i took it off, so i just kinda killed enough bots to get it back to the exact number it was before.

Givemeall is just for noobs who want to get some weapons, it’s the fastest way to get demo knight after all so why not? And anyway they give you the ones with the unlocks so if you want to do the more challenging ones go ahead. But strange farming is stupid. You get nothing of real value, and your missing the experience of you getting exited to get your 1000th kill with your gun.

I remember fucking up in a trade server while being a F2P, casting !giveitems and being flabbergasted when it gave me the achievements and not just renting a jumper for me. I had to reset my achievements and delete all of my new items, not knowing that would be permanent.

!givemeall is so based man, i knew every warning before using it (not enough space, dont delete achievement items) so i had no issues but for strange (and stattrak csgo) weapons the whole point is to keep track of my progress (that i pay for btw), so farming for it kinda just defeats the purpose for me

when i started actually getting into tf2 (i wanna say right before the pandemic started) my irl friend suggested i go to one of these !givemeall servers and unfortunately i did basically the same thing every f2p did after running the command. deleting items i would never be able to get back. rest in peace to my merc badge and haunted scrap.

!givemeall is a command I do regret, resulting in me deleting many items in my backpack, thank god nothing limited. However, I have slowly come to realise that I am glad I did the command, not early on, but in general, as there are achievements which you can't get anymore which grant items As for strange farming, I use these servers when I want to add a strange part to a strange weapon I had recently bought, so I can track the appropriate amount of kills I would have gotten if I had the strange part from the beginning. Situational, yes, but the Niche is still there.

Its really not worth it just for the weapons and the few hats. You can wipe your achievements if you did this and regret it. I did use an achievement manager to get the achievement for the black rose because I didn't want to play the game though.

I used a command on a server that just gave me the milestones and holloween itenrewards, I can still get the regular achievements, like hell I'm going to suffer with stock to get the basic unlocks

The only reason I would see for doing this is for upgrading a backup type weapon that isn't often used or cant do alot of damage

I don’t really see how the !givemeall command robs me of things to do in tf2. I did when I was a f2p and I don’t really regret it, It was just a way to get me some items I had no idea how to get. Tf2 to me is just a game to have fun in by just playing the game, achievements don’t really hold a great value to me. But strange farming sucks, it’s so fucking boring and once you get a hales own statues it feels empty. That robs you from an experience

I dicked around on community servers for about 1200 hours total. 3 days ago i reset all my achievements and all my stats and purely play casual. Ive had much more improvement than ever before. I now plan on just making an alt for silly servers

I did use a farming strange server once to use as a strange transfer, bc i had to sell the weapon to have enought money to buy the upgrade

I don't see an issue with using !givemeall if there's a weapon you want but don't want to do a tiresome achievement to get it. I will frown on killstreak leveling because like ... come on bro. That's just low. The main reason I don't have a problem with givemeall (other than that I used it myself) is that ... well. You can just reset your achievements afterwards. Sure you might not get the rewards a second time, but I feel like the ability to reset everything you've ever "done" gives the game a sort of replayability you can't really find elsewhere.

There is one justifiable use of strange farming. If you sell a strange weapon and buy it back later the count will be 0. This can happen if you have an expensive strange weapon and sell it to get an unusual, and later on you buy the strange weapon again. You can strange farm to get back to where you left.

I'm a vet and I think !give me all is mostly fine and if it's for f2ps then I think it's good given that some of the weapons you get from achievements are pretty much REQUIRED to be at least somewhat effective in even a casual pubs such as the Ubersaw and making people shell out like a few bucks for weapons they can (and probably should) get for free is kinda shitty.

It isn’t immoral, just dishonorable. It devalues other’s achievements while tricking teammates like medics to overcommitting with you. But in the end, it is a game. As long as you are not blinding your eyes with the sun and spamming “good shot” then it’s fine.

funny thing, I had the equivalent of !givemeall done *to* me by a server admin when i was on achievment servers years ago. I don't think it was actually everything (to this day i still have the 1 million healing/burn damage achievements locked) but I did lightly regret it at the time... but it'll even out over time and the items were nice to have at least. Strange farming does feel a bit more harmful because I legitimately enjoy leveling my stranges and seeing them rank up in real time, to the point where it's hard for me to want to use a weapon I don't have a strange version of (though i'll just have to grumble and accept it for a few cases like the Gunslinger because good lord) though at the end of the day both are really just your own experience you're potentially ruining, the worst you can do is lose patience on a strange and have your legitimate kills overshadowed by farmed kills. I'm not going to say i've never gotten some kills on idle servers on stranges but probably maybe a couple hundred spread across various weapons since it was horribly boring and just having a hale's own I didn't farm up naturally is about as good as a stock yellow text unique.

I'm still surprised that acheivements and kill counting works on community servers, that's just kinda weird

just realized watching this video, I can solve an issue I had when trying to change my strange parts. I was trying to reset my player kills stats on my rocket launcher while keeping my robots destroyed stats. if I use a strange farming server, I can bring the robots destroyed stat back to where it was since I have a screenshot. just don't know if it was ruin my actual robots destroyed stat since I actually want to achieve metal massacre legitimately :/

It’s taken me over 10 hours of soldier to get my strange rocket launcher to 500 kills and I’ve gotten significantly better with the class. I can’t wait to see what I’m able to do by the time I’ve gotten Hale’s Own, I’m sure it’ll become a sentimental item. I think some people get so caught up in the desire for a Hale’s Own that they forget why they want one in the first place

Imo givemeall is kinda important, since you are unable to obtain a few of the items otherwise, due to their achievements being broken.

When ever i see a hales own weapon, i just assume they farmed for it, cause i doubt anybody owned a strange that long to even get it past 5000 kills. Now the give me all command i can see being used, cause some achievements are bugged and no longer work, such as the youtube views one, those you LITTERALLY cannot get, same thing with the professor speks cosmetic due to the coaching thing no longer being used and updated either.

The only time I think cheating in achievement is OK, is the Local Cinema Star for the Frontline Field Recorder

I used strange farming servers to help get back old strange numbers. I sold an old rocket launcher than bought a new one and I used it to farm back to Hales own. Really this is the only legitimate use of it.

For some reason I never got givemeall to work and I'm glad it didn't. I thought, based on server descriptions, it would just give me some free items like through a bot trade, not give me all the achievements.

I recall finding a server early on that had an alternative to !givemeall. This other command, which I used, unlocked the achievements that granted items, but not ALL the achievements. Thus, I have those items, but still have a couple hundred achievements left to get.

I did most of the achievements legitimately except for the Halloween ones because I wanted a necro smasher

I used !givemeall because let's be honest, starting to play as a f2p is really hard without weapons and such. Tf2 should give more weapons at the start of the game imo. I partially regret it, but hey, it helped me.

It's a videogame for a cosmetic. As long as you are happy with what and how you do it, then it's okay. It's not killing another human being or harming one. That is my thoughts.

on the topic of !givemeall, you can literally just reset your achievements using an ingame option that resets them on your steam profile as well. you won't get the items again but you get a jumpstart as a new player and can still get the thrill of those achievements later. win win

i think givemeall is alright i understand that most people propably dont wanna stand days on end farming an achievement for an item thats free but strsnge farming is just plain stupid, i use strange weapons to see how far i've come eith the weapon not to just flex with a high number

Honestly the achievement servers also just devalue the merit of 100%ing a game yourself, which is something I myself love to do. Unfortunately /givemeall isnt much of an issue compared to the fact that Valve is just awful at making achievements and ruined it from the start. Like so many achievements where you have to play hundreds of matches in a single map or kill more MvM robots than some of top MvM mains's kill counts combined and the straight up broken YT/Replay achievements just makes TF2 a terrible game to go completionist on which sucks cause this game had huge potential for it.

When i was new at the game i had used a achivement server to get the items but it costed all my inventory space. Luckly i had started playing on 2022 christimas so i got backpack expander

I don’t think !givemeall matters. All of the weapons you get can be achieved by simply playing the game, the hats mostly look terrible and you probably won’t use them once you have other cosmetics, and the few items that have impossible to complete achievements associated with them (like the RU-vid based ones) are fine to obtain through !givemeall, since I don’t think anyones going to care that you didn’t complete the achievement legitimately. Strange farming servers on the other hand make no sense and go against the entire point of a strange weapon. The kills you have on the weapon came from killing bots that couldn’t fight back, so what’s the point in tracking them? There’s no merit to it, and you aren’t impressing anybody with the number either. A rocket launcher with 8500 kills on it is impressive, since you know it’s owner had to play a lot of games to achieve that. A kunai with 150000 kills is meaningless, since odds are only a fraction of those kills were actual players. You’d be better off buying a unique quality weapon and putting a description tag on it that says you’ve scored a million kills, since at the very least that somewhat funny rather than just sad. I’ve had someone use S.A.M (basically !givemeall) to give me the poker night items when they gameshared it with me, but they also used it on TF2. I was mildly disappointed at first, but then realised I didn’t really care since all the achievements I hadn’t gotten by that point were either pointlessly time consuming or so difficult and specific that I never would’ve gotten them anyway. The closest I’ve come to using a strange farming server was when I joined an idle server to farm for crates. I was playing engineer, and built a sentry gun without really thinking. When I came back, my sentry had scored 200 kills, which were applied to my strange wrench. I switched back to my non strange wrench for a while and played some casual in order to make up the difference.

I'm like 9000% sure that you could create a command like !give me all that grants strange stats

after you have a couple inventory drops and allowed for you to get actual achievements and all of the achievement weapons, i feel that using !givemeall is fine, i used it too though so im biased. as for strange farming i never really cared for it because just being like "oh hey this person has a hales own" even when they arent actually that skilled is kinda bs, but i mostly used !givemeall for the free hats n shit and not achievements because that changes your model

The problem to be honest isn't even one or the other, but it lies within the TF2 community itself, where people are so entitled to telling others what and how they should do things, and getting uber mad at the first guy who got the Golden Pan deleting it.

Having a Hale's Own weapon doesn't mean you're skilled. It just means you have a lot of time to waste playing video games.

I'll be getting my first pc in a week and tf2 is the first game I'm going to download I'm probably going to use an achievement unlock tool to get the items and weapons to give me a little bit of variety while playing but I will reset the achievements when I have them so I can earn it.
