I think the main problem with effects such as Bubbling, Overclocked/Memory Leak, Eerie OF etc. is that they don't glow. If Bubbles were silvery glowing, OC and ML glowy in their respective colours and Eerie OF had some purple undertone, they would be much higher, especially Eerie OF, I think it would be even above the regular OF.

"This effects are bad because you cant rubb them in the face of the people on the other side of the map" seriously i dont have anything against high tier traders but this kind of labeling seems kinda shitty to me, the most valuable effects are the most basic ones (Scorching and burning flames) but they are worth more because you basically have a huge sign on your head that screams "Hey guys i got so much money that i decided to spend it on a virtual item" i mean i spent money on cosmetics in vg all my life, but i do it because i either want to help the devs or because i like them, not to Brag about it, hell i could be the only one able to see them and i wouldnt mind, this kind of mentality feels incredibly elitist. PD: Snipers must fucking love you guys

Could you maybe do a list of "How to make bad unusuals look good" like maybe having Nuts n Bolts as an effect, but having cosmetics that suit the unusual so it doesn't look as bad?

I really dislike that bigger traders almost always dismiss the cheaper effects and say that they're bad, usually JUST because they're cheap. I for example really don't like the Burning Flames or Sunbeams, not because I can't afford these, but for how plain and boring they are. Seriously, just take a flame particle, smack it on a hat and it's worth 5000$ more. The look of the effect is also affected strongly by the hats and/or other effect combinations, or themes. For example, my friend wants to make a stinky, fat scientist papa engi and his unusual hat of choice is a Massed Flies Brainiac's Hairpiece, which matches great with the theme. The Nuts&Bolts is also literally always themed when put up on engineer or a robo hat. The first time I saw it on an MvM server I was amazed how great it looked on our engi and when I told him, he looked pretty happy. Subatomic or Atomic look awesome on space theme hats like The Head Full of Hot Air or Bubble Pipe and Aces High should be considered god tier on the Hat of Cards. And you know why I like them? Because they have personality. Just tell me, what do effects of Purple or Green Energy say about a person wearing it, except for being either good at trading, lucky unboxer or the reason his mom's credit card is suddenly empty. Yeah sure, they look flashy as heck, so what? Your head is visible to enemy snipers 10x as much and you can forget about ever playing sneaky. I have to say though, not all of the high tier effects look like garbage to me though (obviously). Circling Hearts is always adorable on pyros or hoovies, I love it with the Tough Guy's Toque. Nebula is just amazing, nothing more to say about it. Morning Glory and Death at Dusk are well made, well thought out and at the same time you don't look like a flexing butthole when you combo them, unlike Scortching and all these others. TL;Dr : Expensive effects =/= good. Good expensive effects = good Cheap effects =/= bad. Bad cheap effects = bad. Why do I have to say this.

Bubbling is my favorite effect in tf2 because its cheap, its not so noticeable so that a sniper can easily pick you off, and it looks great

orbiting robo effects are some of my favs in the game because of low unbox numbers and since most people dont like it, usually goes for pretty cheap. eerie orbiting fire is another one i love actually for similar reasons

Aces high is my favorite effect... ;_; It's the only team colored effect in the game, or at the very least, it's the most affordable one in the game ;~;

5:40 - When I see Massed Flies, I think about a loadout thats supposed to look like a homeless person. This effect would fit perfectly to that set. No clue if there are cosmetics that would work for that style though.

I like the flies affect. Idk, when a game involves flies i usually pick those things for some reason. Like binding of isaac is an example, i really really like the fly items and i kinda feel bad killing the harmless ones (You need to) and honestly i would want to have the massed flies effect

For the "you can't see it that good from a far" - I think you should prefer for your enemy to see its glory on the killshot instead of giving your enemy your location lol

I feel like SOME of these effects could work quite well thematically in certain loadouts. For example, I _could_ see Nuts & Bolts working well with an Engineer loadout with a lot of robotic parts. -i dont have $20+ to spend on unusual hats to try this out for myself, so please correct me if i'm wrong-

I feel like all unusuals have their own type of quality and every unusual has a set it can work into. For example you could make a homeless set with massed flies

Massed flies suits well for me because i dont want to be a glowing fairy target on the battlefield. Massed flies is god tier!

I think that number 1 and 2 should be swapped since the flies effect can look probably kinda nice with the soldier's beggar set.

I honestly like all the effects because I know I will never have one but to me just having something on your head floating looks cool.

Bubbling? One of the worst unusuals? Ha no way

I love Nuts + Bolts. From what I remember it came out with the Mann vs Machine update, which is my favorite update. It's also really cheap for an Unusual. You can get a Nuts + Bolts Backwards Ballcap for like $30 on the Community Market.

As much as I agree with massed flies being at number 1, I could see it working well with the trash man or any other similar cosmetics. Either way, I think that this was a pretty fair list!

You hardly ever see eerie orbiting fire because the most existence for a hat that has eerie orbiting fire is 10..

Some of these effects are great with specific hats, like aces high with the hat of cards or nuts and bolts on some robo hats.

Overclocked and Memory leak are awesome, especially combo'd together

i remember when sunbeams came out and everyone hated it though i was loving it.. good old days

I like Nuts and Bolts a lot cause it fits 2 of my sets that I made for Scout and Heavy while also being cheap and decent looking.It doesn't fit almost any set but in the ones it fits it looks very nice imo.

Some effects work REALLY well with hats. For example, Aces high and Slo Poke is amazing!

Meanwhile, two of my favorite unusuals have these "bad" effects and I wouldn't trade them for almost any of the so-called "god-tier" effects. I'll take my tastefully themed Bubbling Bonk Helm and Dead Presidents Hustler's Hallmark over some gaudy effect that doesn't pair well with anything. Better to be classy than flashy.

I think a great time for Massed Flies to shine would be with Food hats, like the Sandvich hat for Heavy.

I'd honestly like to see both a Scorching Orbiting Fire and a Eerie Flames effect added to the game

My first unusual wasn't the best effect since it was cheaper and I really wanted one, ended up getting a soldiers slope scopers with orbiting planet effect

It bothers me how traders price unusuals by how outrageously gaudy they look rather than what the effect actually is

welp my first unusual was a massed flies sky high fly guy... and now i only use it as a part of my "stinky tank" soldier

All these unusuals suck unless they fit the hat that their paired with, like the nuts and bolts one being any robotic hat or the flies on the snack stack

I think that massed flies could be a higher tear effect if the Tf team updated it to be something like massed fireflies or something similar.

If I remember correctly orbiting planet got slight higher after muselk got his point and shoot orbiting planets

I used mass flies in a trash themed soldier load out with the beggars and the banner with the beat up trumpet and the frying pan, it was on the pot cosmetic he has and I thought it was a good idea

It's interesting, I actually like most of the unusuals on this list, mainly because of my taste in unusuals, being someone who likes more subtle effect. (specifically ancient codex, which is actually one of my favorite effects) But whatever, you do you.
