j gets drunk and listens to her 5 yr old album pt 5000
some of the transitions were fucked up in the version i listened to. didn't fix it because i didn't want to mess with the timing of the commentary. sorry about that
cw: some discussion of suicide, mental illness, abuse, and self harm as well as some casual usage of reclaimed slurs
yes the videos longer than the album. i listened to it twice sue me

hi all i hope you know i dont really hate plastic death (think i said that in the commentary lol) i’m just so critical of it at the moment because it’s brand new and i just moved past that era. i like it for different reasons and feel i achieved new highs on it in many ways. probably in 5 years i’ll get drunk and listen and realize how hard i’d been on it… but every single thing i’ve made was in some way against what came before, tfgba was very much anti-casio dad which was against the much sillier music i was making before that. & i find myself taking inspiration from this era of my creative output now that i feel genuinely removed from it

i'm 14, trans and live somewhere where the penalty for being lgbtq+ is prison + a non-enforced death sentence. i'm baissicaly stuck here until i finish school at 18 and go off somewhere else for college and can't access any care at all. the only way i found to calm myself when feeling like shit was by listening to music, especially more energetic music and ESPECIALLY music about being lgbtq+, and this band was how i found that out, along with also finding out i was trans due to relating really hard to yoshi's island and bedroom community, so this album holds a really special place in my heart. thank you classic j

Hi, J. As a young trans girl (I'm 19 as of writing this) who is still closeted, finding this album a few months ago really effected me on a personal level. The super in-your-face trans lyrics and catchy melodies and emotional vocals resonated with me in a way that most albums haven't. I just want to thank you for like, the happiness and euphoria (and healthy sadness) this album has brought me. Your "meltdown" in this vid about transitioning has really made me want to come out, and I think I will soon, so uhhh... wish me luck? Oh and hearing you mention Daniel Johnston is so awesome. He's one of my biggest inspirations with my own music as well. "Maybe transition would have saved Rivers Cuomo" - Classic J, 2024

You called tfgba album messy in the beginning and I want to explain why I personally really enjoy that aspect of it. Life is messy. And I feel like tfgba is very much about life, struggling with depression and not having a good home life, struggling with being trans and being unable to find a place to fit in and feel safe. The album spoke to me heavily with its disorganized feeling, how it's all over the place and every song is incredibly different. Bone skull and Dallas are my two favorites off of this album and it's for how "out of place" they seem in the album. It's this hard rock emo album until those songs + (forever?????????) And I love how it reflects the messiness and unpredictability of life. But maybe that's just me! :)

I don't know what I was expecting out of this video, but it certainly wasn't what I ended up getting ily j. I've been a closeted t girl for over 3 years now and I just finally turned 18 so it's legal for me to medically get prescription hrt in my state so there's more pressure from myself and my friends to come out to my family now. I've been out to my close friends and brother for months now but I hit a hurdle when it comes to my parents, as their perception of me is very important to me (perhaps falsely so but idc). A few weeks ago I set up a plan with my brother to come out in the coming days but as it's gotten close I've had a major influx of anxiety around the situation and thought about backing out but hearing your positivity has given me a burst of confidence I think. Your music has meant a lot to me over the past 4 years and like damn idk I just have such a large appreciation for this album. It's crazy hearing you name drop some emo bands that have been an inspiration for me to get into music recently I feel like a child screaming and pointing at the shiny things. I look forward to future glass beach thingies AND I WILL NOT DISAPPOINT I WILL START HRT MA'AM.

Damn... just damn. I am so happy I was introduced to your music. It was the start of high school and I was so depressed and suicidal(never attempted but was contemplating it almost every single day). I just felt like someone in the wrong body. Like I just felt wrong all the time. My cousin wanted me to listen to an album and I just said sure why not. OMG this album changed me literally. This album really helped me find out about who I truly am. Bedroom community resonated with me, but I never knew why until around the 3rd semester of my freshman year. It helped me figure out I am a trans woman. Thankfully my mother is super cool with who I really am. I'm now going into my senior year in high school and I am a proud trans girl loving life and loving myself! Thank you J and everyone else who worked on this life changing album. I can not thank you all enough. Like you all literally saved my life. Sadly no HRT cause I have no job and have no money, but after high school and when I get a job that is my number 1 priority!!

Oh my god I think I get it now. I like tfgba more than plastic death and that bugged me. But tfgba grew on J because of the uneducated reviews and by comparing it to other project and that is why plastic death has gone a completely different direction with a weirder yet more polished sound. One of the biggest difference between the two album in my opinion is that tfgba is genreless because over the course of the album you have "every" genre while each song on plastic death is "every" genre which could stem from the critiques of tfgba that said it was unbalanced and lacked coherence (an oppinion I don't personnaly get). I love glass beach.

Hey j, it’s 03:33 rn (spooktacular) and I have had so many thoughts that live in this album and just wanna put them in a place. A friend turned partner turned no longer speaking anymore introduced me to this record in the winter of 2022 right after I started questioning my identity and it formed the keystone of the bridge I walked across to get to the girl I am now. I remember getting the bus to and from college and I’d get to certain places on the route as certain songs would hit, and of a morning I’d fall asleep on the way there from staying awake all night with the trans (🏳️‍⚧️) tunes still playing. I also wanted to talk about this sense of oceanic depth that this album (and PD too acc) have. This bottomless and floating feeling lives inside the synths in Forever and Bedroom Community, in the swelling of Blood rivers and Bone Skull and in the marimba section of Dallas, and it makes me feel so happy I found my way through that quagmire (from family man) of confusion. I was floating on the surface of something I was scared to look in the eye. This album gave me a reason to swim. This was a video I didn’t know I didn’t need until I had it, it’s like having a real heart to heart with a (slightly tipsy) mum/aunt/friend/godless heathen who actually supports and has my interests at heart. Sorry for the ancient scroll I’ve just unfurled here. I lied I’m not actually sorry I dod this because I wanted to - Sophie

rat castle is filler in the same way cure for the itch is on hybrid theory, it played shortly after saying "this song is so depressing, one day i might write a song that doesnt make you wannna..." and i think thats what rat castle is? 58 minutes of soul crushing stuff and then just a two minute interval of "filler" that evens out the tone because music isnt just to make you feel and reflect on sadness but also just to express literally anything

I think I really connected to this album when I heard it the first time because I was also really angry and looking for community in despair. Hell, this album guided my hands towards making two trans characters who loved each other through all the horrors they each faced and I was obsessed with them because they gave me something to hope for! I needed that so badly!! I’ve screamed along to yoshis island and yoshis island things 04 with my best friend because it was pretty much the best outlet we had to express our frustration with the state of the world and our simultaneous love for it, and for each other. We’re doing better now but living as a trans/generally queer person is rocky and I think the beauty of this album that drew me to it from the moment I listened to soft is that it’s not just giving a space to really feel that despair and anger, it’s also like it’s patting you on the back and saying “I’ve been there too man, don’t think you’re the only ones going through this and don’t think this shit isn’t fucked. Let’s stick together”.

Plastic Death its such a great name for that album the themess of it are just So resonant with that just Perpetual Closetedness and how stagnancy just slowly tears u apart ...whereas tfgba feels like Oh God Every-Thing Is Changing And Its Scary And Exciting a lot of the time. like it talks about stagnancy too but - the albusm go well together! i think that whole Anti-What-We-Just-Did thing made PD compliment TFGBA so well like that. wow i sound soooo stupid im delirious i got to sleep but like ... music. glass beach, its cool thannnnnnnnnks j. bye . rambly blah
