The state is preparing for the pre-trial hearing in the prison escape case of rape and murder convict Thabo Bester at the High Court, Free State. The lawyer of the former accused Natassja Jansen has questioned methods used by the state in attempting to get her to become a state witness. A leaked letter written to Jansen indicates that the state wants her to become a state witness under Section 204 of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA). This essentially means the state wants her to trade information to avoid prosecution.
