@@p.s.5135 Hoisin is more Vietnamese and Chinese. That said; I recommend using hoisin sauce in place of oyster sauce in recipes. That's what I usually do, at any rate. I cook for someone with a shellfish allergy, so oyster sauce is a no-no. It tastes amazing in basil stir fries.
@@aprilbennett4161 hoi sin is completly different then oyster sauce ... i dont care if its more vietnamese then chinese i wanted to know if she uses it in thai dishes
@@p.s.5135 I thought that I was clear enough in saying that hoisin isn't a Thai ingredient. I cannot recall a single time that she's used hoisin. If that isn't good enough of an answer, utilize the other websites that she listed to get a direct response from her.
So I really ended up making this for dinner last night and guess what, my husband said I really hit it out of the ballpark 😂 It was so good. My husband had it again for breakfast and said it was the best breakfast. Thank you for the video recipe and I really look forward to making more of your cookings.
After living in Thailand for a few years, this became me all-time favorite! I was very disappointed when I came back to the USA and ordered this and they used Thai basil and not the Holy Basil. But with the right ingredients this is a fantastic dish anytime!
You are the voice of the new generation 😭 My mom is a great Thai chef, but since I moved out, it's a lot harder to hound her for a recipe that she doesn't write down lol. Hopefully I can surprise her with knowing how to make Thai food! Kop khun kha, na kha P'Pai!
I go to Thailand every year. This is the dish by which I judge my various lunch spots. Thanks for showing me how I can try it at home. Just discovered your channel this morning.
@@victortriump1563 Holy basil is hard to find. I just use any type of basil i can find. If fail i just use cilantro or other veges. Not as good as with basil but still a good quick meal :)
Pai’s comment on the neighbors being able to smell it as well as Adam’s cough accurately describes how ~spicy~ the air can really get in a Thai restaurant 😁
I lay awake at night thinking of new ways to make Pad Ka Prao. Never tried chicken before and it looks delicious! Thank you Pailin for sharing a truly magical dish.
I'm all about that Kai Dao - brown crusty crispy edges and golden gooey yolk. Perfect for any rice dish especially for Filipino breakfasts. Thanks for sharing. 😋
I live in Wisconsin (USA) so I had to make a few substitutions. Habanero (just one) instead of Thai Chili Peppers. Anaheim pepper instead of spur chilies. Regular ol' grocery store Basil instead of Holy Basil. Olive oil instead of vegetable oil, simply because I ran out of vegetable oil and forgot to buy some. It turned out fantastic, this was the best stir fry I've ever made. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!
Hello!!! I just wanted to let you know that this recipe is absolutely amazing!!! I’ve made it 4 times and just made it again tonight. Added more veggies and it was delicious! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!! ❤️ ps I love all your recipes!!!
I’m so glad that after all these years I was blessed enough to find holly basil plans 🤩 it took me a few months to grow them big enough so that I can use the leaves. This dish was a huge hit that my husband even asked for 3rd serve 😆 thanks, Pai.
You're the reason I don't watch Food Network, true personality with cooking skills and you teach with passion, the way students need to learn. I'm a fan, stay true to the art you deserve.
I'm not vegetarian but using diced mushrooms instead of meat works well for this dish, too. And I hate washing dishes so I mince the chilis and garlic instead of pounding them and add the sauces and seasonings directly into the pan while it cooks. This is the fastest thing you can make if you don't count prep time, even faster if your meat's already grounded.
Takes me back to Thailand where I could pick my basil from the garden. Here in Edinburgh I can get Thai basil from the Thai grocer and I'm grateful to get it!Thanks for reminding me of the recipe and it's great to see you at your outdoor Bangkok kitchen.
You are amazing! That is funny, literally i was talking to my phone asking why you are not using a carbon steel wok and then you answered!! Thank you so much for this
Bravo Pailin! I learned Thai cooking for 3 years in Bangkok and I gotta tell you that you made this dish perfectly. I like your face every time you take the first bite and that goes for all your videos...
Made this today and it was delicious. I live in a small German City but we have a Asian shop where I found holy basil and all the other ingredients. Thank you Pai.
Managed to find both some long-beans and holy basil at a local Asian supermarket. Just wanted to say thank you, this is one of the most delicious things I've cooked in a long time!
Glad to hear ms. that but please don't expect too much. Thailand is just a small and humble country, and, like every country on this earth. We have both good and bad things, and good and bad people. Be our guest anytime you want. You are always welcome.
@@bend.6091 I am also born & raised from the Philippines by the way, I agree with you, it’s the same thing over there also. There are some bad thing & good things there too!
Hi Loved the video i just had ordered this dish from a Los Angeles Thai Restaurant it was ok not great it did not have much basil in it ? though it was Thai Basil Chicken ( Pad Kra Pao ) i am so glad i watched your vlog on how to cook this item it was a pleasure to watch and i believe i can make this classic dish that i miss so much when i am not visiting Thailand.. You would think in an area like Los Angeles California with the largest amount of Thais out side of Thailand one could get great Thai food ? not so much anymore...L.A Rob
Watching from Philippines the irony here is although we have a lot of chillies her and variety of it is markets and groceries dont sell rippen spur chillies but only the thai chillies and the smallest one whwt we call devil's chillies because it is super spicy
Wow your house and garden beautiful , that in Vancouver must cost a bunch. I know Vancouver well. Thanks for your recipes, very easy. I never found interest in cooking Thai in my many years I lived in Phuket, but my wife is Filipina and loves Thai food ( I do too I just had a MSG problem back in Thailand) and this is very helpful, I am a Chef, so it is easy for me to catch on, I do rather Swiss things on my youtube channel. Kap khun Krap
2 comments... 1. I LOVE stir fry, I cook it at least once a week.. I know, once a week isn't enough.. 2. You are gorgeous. I will try this dish soon as I can. Thank you.
Thank you - this was delicious; I used Thai Basil, Yellow Bell pepper (instead of bean), a shallot, some bean sprouts, and rice noodles instead of rice. I suppose you can go a few different ways with this one.
Hi Pailin, Thanks for sharing the video! I live in Ireland and am currently on temporary lay-off. Your channel has been helping me a lot to spend my free time and learn Thai cuisine during this pandemic! Now I am starting a Chinese blog and I wonder if that's ok if I share your recipe and photos of this dish with marking reference source on my blog? :) I look forward to hearing from you! Yijung
Hi there, and sorry for the delay :) Sure go ahead - as long as you reference the source re RU-vid videos and such you're good to go re sharing on a blog :) ... and thanks for asking! Cheers, Adam
