I am just looking at ways to protect myself in case If I go into this, this marriage fails Last thing I want to do is be able to sleep underneath the bridge I want to be able to live the rest of my life OK
I wonder what if property is bought during marriage, but outside Thailand, let's say Europe. Will it still be split 50/50 after divorce, or Thai law requires to split property bought only in Thailand?
So, you say that marital assets, not covered in a prenuptial, are divided 50/50. I can see that when as a married couple they acquire property or a house. However; what if the Thai party already owns multiple parcels of land etc. and this is not mentioned in as any registered prenup, do these then become assets that will be split 50/59? In this instance the foreign party gains at the expense of the Thai…. Does this occur?
I believe you are talking about the case when your Thai spouse owns multiple assets before the marriage. 50/50 goes for assets gained during the marriage only
So if I get this right as an American, if I want to get married to a a Thailand woman, everything is my property before we get married would be mine in case there was a divorce is this correct?
Thank you very much for the information going forward. If this works out, I might need to see legal Council to make sure everything is correct and OK thank you very much much.
If you're not married and the woman you got pregnant wants to keep the baby, you're still legally responsible for child support under Thai law. You don’t have to marry her, but as the father, you’ll likely need to provide financial support for the child. It's best to consult with a lawyer to understand your rights and obligations clearly.
Yes, being married to a Thai national often provides more straightforward and longer-term visa options compared to being single. Non-married individuals may face more frequent renewals or different criteria.
