Hi There. Man I really love your videos. I,m a 84 year old guy living in Mountain View, Ca. I was married, for 45 years, to a really beautiful Japanese lady who I actually worked for as a young airman in air force. She died from cancer in 2002. I love most of everything in far east, especially of course Japan and now, thanks to you, Thailand!! Keep them coming, OK??

Great idea for a video. It debunks the idea that it is always cheaper to eat from food stalls. This is also how Thai people eat, cook more than you need and then either eat again or feed other family members or friends that pop by. Another reason I love Thailand.

When I was in Kanchanaburi, rice soup for breakfast 30bt, dragonfruit for lunch 10 bt, chicken + rice + water spinach + sambal olek 30 bt for dinner. Good cheap filling food, love it and miss it back here in Bundaberg, Queensland Australia. Can't wait to go back :-)

Now I’m doing OMAD it’s One Meal a Day diet and I’m trying to loose 30kg of my extra weight that I gained here in east Asia in past 14 month that I live here and most of the time it cost me around 1-3 dollars per day to eat healthy now when I say healthy I don’t mean just veggies yes I eat chicken, beef, fish and all sorts of veggies with that and I think more of us Canadian and American man must try this OMAD diet or otherwise called intermittent fasting 23:1 which means your only eat for one hour a day and rest you fast with water,Coffey and other drinks like electrolytes. I’ve lost 9kg so far in lockdown time and this much closer to my goal only 21 more to go. The reason I told my story is because of your success on loosing lots of weight as well brother and I know you’ll be glad to know that you inspired someone like me to do it! Thanks a lot!

Rule 1 to save money. Cook your own starch. 5 baht of rice is 250g, or 825kcal. 8 baht of noodles is about the same. So a rice cooker, or a kettle, is vital. 85 baht buys 5kg of good rice. That's 17,500 kcals. That, through a rice cooker, is how Thais hit their macros. The absolute balanced cheap option is bananas in the morning, two packets of ramen at lunch, and 1000 kcals of rice with a little bit of chicken/pork and a load of greens and some chilli sauce at night. I think I could do it for 50B, but if you need 3,000 kcals it involves eating a lot of starch.

Great video! Maybe do a series of 200, 300, and even 400 Baht food day focusing on the quality, and latitude of food choices. Started out funny with the dinky bananas, but it's about quality and flavors, and easy with diet in mind. Would be a good structure for staying healthy and help keep the pounds in fat prison. The presentation was awesome. Thanks for the food tease.

glad to see a channel with ''normal''content Thailand is much more than a paradise for single man. i know for a fact that life in thailand can be cheap and very interesting. you can even stay in for example koh chang for less than 20.000 bath a month (600 euro/dollar) if you want. people than say tha is not a normal lifestyle..... hmmm, i dont drink at home, dont go to bars every day, dont chase girls, dont eat fancy steak. With my day to day lifestyle i would easely be comfertable with 20.000 Bath.

Really enjoyed your vid. Loved your evening ride along the beach. Your 100baht budget meal is pretty awesome. I think all dishes looks good. I would use shrimp paste with morning glory though. Not sure if you can stand it. Hahaha. I would probably do that 3 days in a week and have a feast during the weekend. Make the week a bit more interesting. The edible incredible Egg, this would be my number 1 purchase, very versatile.. I'm surprised Vee didn't make soup, my GF made a soup for most meals..if I was to purchase your list of groceries here in California, I'd spend about 20 dollars and I would save on the rice as I cook it myself. You have the added advantage of being able to bargain for stuff.$$$

Beef must be expensive there as I don't see that you eat too much of it. Mostly seafood, pork and chicken? What about lamb is it expensive as well?

100baht is about 5 Australia dollars you dont want to know what we spend on food every day in Australia your all so helping out the local people by buying from them instead of buying from the bigger stores but the money you spent for what you got and made out of it looked really tasty you have a good cook there lucius she has some good skills with that knife in the kitchen very informative video mate waiting from the fishing video next👍🙏

Hey I love your channel it's varied content your style and the way you conduct yourself in a foreign land. I've been a few times to both HUA-HIN and PATTAYA, never been to BANGKOK other than flying in. I've seen a LOT of kindness in thai people towards me in my holiday visits and I have saved hard for my holidays and blown money on wine woman and song. Equally I've bartered with barfines to lower prices, sometimes in a large market maybe I've gotten a few baht off an item 'cos I bought two(non food). But as much as I love the idea of your challenge, there's something intrinsically wrong regarding the encouragement of capable western expats/tourists to barter down the cost of extremely cheap basic goods from lowly poor people who struggle to eke an existence from mother nature as it's all they have ( an acceptable practice by indigenous poor thais in my book) .The fact that the lowly roadside banana seller at the start of the video was told you wouldn't pay a miserable 20baht for his bananas only 10baht thus HALVING his price made me feel incredibly sad for him, and his tone did drop when he realised he wasn't getting his measly 20baht . Of course I know it's an economic experiment, but you shouldn't encourage those CC's ! in all honesty if an expat (any expat) HAS to feed himself continuously on 50baht a day(100/2) he doesn't deserve to be in the Kingdom. Thailand has it's own poor to take care of, and bartering THEM down in price is a bit self-defeatist ! I myself would gladly give him his 20baht ( I know you had a budget) but I would baulk and barter with the bargirl quoting 2kbaht or the market stall selling cd's or DVD's at 200 or 300 baht. Sometimes one just has to realise that their time in paradise is up and make plans to leave, and I don't mean by way of the "PATTAYA FLYING CLUB". In my honest opinion, if one feels the need to barter down poor roadside/market vendors due to the dip in ones own personal circumstances then it's just too late in the day and that person should have left the Kingdom a long time ago. When the warning signs begin appearing…… alcoholism/poor exchange rates/pension dips/stock market crashes/savings running low/health problems/hospital bills/being a falang standing in a NIGHTWISHGROUP food handout queue..lol....to name a few...then the alarm bells should start ringing. Of course I'm not aiming this at anyone unfortunate enough to be stranded in Thailand due to COVID-19. I do enjoy your videos greatly and looking forward to catching up on the next one Lucas. More power to ya....

$3 to feed 2 people good job. I went shopping yesterday because my daughter wanted to bake some brownies and I ended up spending £45 mostly on pretty much just snacks 🤔. Did get some beers too.

Just for people's knowledge. At 3:48 in the video, ( when he asks if there are bananas for ten baht ), the yellow board large sign transliterated says..." 1 puang ten baht " and "1 wee twenty baht". Basically, it advertises a small bunch of bananas is 10 baht and a larger bunch is twenty baht.
