Many comments here are fighting over which country is better than others which is unethical. Please be an adult with your comments and respect both countries culture. Whichever leap that suit retirees taste of life let them be. Every culture is different and so is everything else in that country. There are diversity of retirees amongst themselves all over the world. Please be respectful, it goes a long way.
As a Vietnamese, I have a lot of Thai friends. We often make a lot of plans to visit a lot of beautiful places in Thailand and Vietnam. Maybe Vietnam spent a lot of bloody wars in the past, so our country needs more time to rebuild a lot of things. In general, I am happy to make friends with Thai, Myanmar, Lao, and Cambodia people.
After living in Thailand for 3 years I can see Vietnam passing Thailand in all things except tourism. The Buddhist philosophy takes all initiative and assertiveness out of ordinary people. Vietnamese people are more industrious and just as nice to deal with.
Not sure about your take on Buddhism. Countries such as Korea, Japan, and China have strong Buddhist roots. It is more likely the corrupt politics of the military combined with the equally corrupt royalty that sucks the life from the common Thai people.
Most Vietnamese are Buddhist. It's the southern Chinese work culture that's making Vietnamese like that (Viets are a mix of local groups and southern Chinese)

My experience is that they differ a lot. Thailand is warm and friendly and easy to explore. Vietnam is even more beautiful.. Very interesting with its political history. Better food. But Vietnam is also a bit edgy, more competetive. It can sometimes be a challenge to visit. Frequent scams in the big cities. That said, both are lovely countries.
@@christopherpekel6096 Then you been lucky. Have you for example in Saigon tried any other taxi companies than Mai Linh or Vinasun? I experienced a lot of shit in Saigon-but the city is still a very nice place to visit🙂.

Vietnam definitely wins on cost of living but I'm not quite sure about quality of life yet. Bottom line, both options offer great value for money but I definitely still prefer Thai food.
Actually Thailand is ahead in life quality and more liberate then Vietnam. Vietnam still needs 2 decades to overtake but they sure have the ability to do it, the question is if they can use the one in a life time chance they now were given through the world political constellation.
Before 1975, Vietnam was better than Thailand and South Korea. After the Fall of Saigon into Communist Regime , those 2 Country went up with the right directions but Vietnam went down under Communists.
Two decades to overtake? Nonsense, It will take Vietnam only 4-5 years before they overtake Thailand on the economic fronts. They have multiple bigger cities unlike Thailand that just centers on Bangkok and pattaya. Most of the foreign investments and hi-tech, AI industry going to Vietnam over other southeast Asian countries.
The wars have set Vietnam back years, but I still believe Vietnam will surpass Thailand over time. I say give Vietnam 5-8 years. Vietnam’s overall economy has already surpassed Thailand.
@@Ngocson2603 It might come from the cost of living, more modern cities vs Thailand (only Bangkok & Pattaya), beach along Vietnam, the taste of food quite the same (some says Vietnamese food better), less protests, no bomb, Thai tourism is more famous but for those stays longer more than a year as above, they are no more tourists. And I am not impressive by Pattaya, it even cannot be beautiful vs Nha Trang. Its full of old retired man, those are seeking for young women. Ewwww
I am Vietnamese and I think traveling to Vietnam cannot be compared to Thailand because Thailand is a country of tourism and traveling to Thailand is also cheaper than Vietnam so I go twice a year. Thai food doesn't really suit my taste, so I often go to Vietnamese or Korean restaurants to have the energy to go out for entertainment because Bangkok has a lot of things to relax in.
Having lived in both places, one of the biggest negatives of Vietnam in noise pollution. Thai's seldon blow their horns while in Vietnam the blare of horns frankly, obnoxious and annoying. Another big disadvantage is traffic. Although not for the faint of heart, I ride my motorbike easily in Thailand, I wouldn't even try. If I were looking for a wife, Thailand wouldn't be very high on my list. Vietnamese ladies seem to be a bit more loyal. These are just my personal experiences.
Much safer to never marry a girl from either country. They only want you for your money and will leave you when they meet someone richer, legally taking anything you own together. But if you just keep her as your girlfriend, she knows she needs to stay with you to enjoy the benefits of your higher income, and you get to keep all property purchased. Beautiful women there are a dime a dozen, best to play it safe.
🇻🇳 Vietnam is for more serious living . 🇹🇭 Thailand is like living in a lie every day . Vietnamese women are a much higher class because the education is higher . Even Laos students prefer Vietnam .
@nonon0n0o I'm in a better situation to look at the statistics . Having been in several different Thai schools and having a Thai daughter in those schools . Vietnam is light years ahead of Thailand as well as most students have a desire to learn English to study abroad . Can't say the same for Thailand. But I've seen the ol' expat delusional defense for many years . 🙄 Don't you get tired of it ? How many points is Thailand going to give you , or MAYBE they'll make you "Farang of the Year" and grant you citizenship one day .... after you're long dead of course .
Thailand has better infrastructure, food, more friendly and honesty people, which draw more tourists to visit the country. Quality of the people is the most important for developing the country. Thailand without its Thai people, it's not Thailand. Tourists want to visit Thailand because Thai people, Thai food, and Thai historical places. Without its friendly and honesty people, there wouldn't be any tourists visit Thailand. Thailand is bringing in $12-15 billions yearly into the country from tourism alone. That makes Thailand farahead from other countries in S.E. Asia.
You forgot about Singapore. I think Singapore and Vietnam are much more interesting than Thailand. Thailand is only good for vacation, not good for everything else.

The quality of medical care and availability of specialized treatments in Vietnam may not be as extensive as in Thailand. Actually in terms of medical tourism Thailand competes with Turkey in Premier League, and Vietnam is in League Championship. But this clip intends to communicate that Thailand boasts about their medical tourism.
about religious, i think Vietnam, on a plus side, Vietnam actually has 3 part, the culture also depend on parts, the north, hold the original, might be tricky , the south is more opening , the middle part... well, it is about the tribal, their origins still maintain through out centuries, the Cham people , their culture is totally difference from both North and South, also in the North of the middle, Hue city is also difference and more like the North
Both great and welcoming countries. I feel like Thailand is further ahead in infrastructure at least in the city. But Vietnam feels more accessible despite this. Both have amazing food, if I had to choose I’d go with Vietnam just because the coffee is so good there.

Don't you know the GDP per capital of Thai in 90s was only ~$2000,? It is more acceptable if you say Vietnam is behind around 5 years =))) Have you ever tried to live in big cities of Vietnam like Hanoi or Saigon as a middle-income person? The cost of living between Vietnam & Thailand is around 25% , so that the gap year may be 5 years as i mentioned above
lol thai music hurts my ears. Both Thai and Vietnamese language are bad and not pleasant but Vietnamese language is a tad less annoying. And Vietnamese music is so much better sounding. Plus, their written language is not some scrippling scratch like Thai. They use the Roman alphabet so it's easier to read.

thailand is already super touristic. vietnam has still few years to go before this turns into tourist only place. overall issue is SEA is that there are hardly any real nature left.

Vietnam rank as one of the top countries in viewing America with great respect and admiration. They love America and have absolutely no animosity against America especially with what the Americans did to them. Can you see any country who forgive their enemy that quickly?

Cách làm du lịch của Thái Lan bài bản hơn hẳn Việt Nam nhưng có người nói rằng người Hư thì đến Thái, người tốt thì đến Việt Nam. Thái Lan lấy việc cho phép các phố đèn đỏ hoạt động mại dâm và phát triển cần sa là để thu hút thêm du lịch, gái Thái kết hôn với khách Âu, Mỹ rất nhiều và Việt Nam thì không như vậy

Vietnam is cheap. Hotels are often much cleaner and well maintained than Thailand. Alcohol is cheaper. Not sure what you're talking about it being over-priced, it's one of the best value places in the world
@@rety5275 I believe that Vietnamese people trust Thai investors more than China. Don't worry, Thai people manage their business fairly and definitely do not take advantage of their neighbors. Let's invest to create jobs and income. We did not bring people to occupy land and settle like the Chinese.
